Pirates @ Phillies
Recommendation: Pirates -133
The bats are heating up again for the Pirates and they’venow won 4 straight to get right back in the playoff race. Edinson Volquez isdealing right now. He’s 3-0 with a stellar 2.02 ERA in his last 8 starts. He’salso put up equally strong numbers on the road. Volquez has pitched betteragainst the Phillies than any other team in the NL other than Miami. Things aregoing right for the Bucs and the time to bet them is now while they’re makingtheir playoff push.
The Phillies are a bunch of veterans playing for exerciseright now. They’ve lost 2 in a row and just don’t have the fight in them thatwe see out of other ball clubs. The team is simply going through the motions,ready for the season to be over. It’s also a good time for Philly to evaluatesome prospects for the future. That means the lineup will be full ofinexperience and talent that is not yet developed.
Rookie David Buchanan hasn’t been anything special for thePhillies. The youngster has above average potential but doesn’t have the stuffat this point in time to dominate the Pirates, especially with the way they’recurrently hitting. Huge pitching mismatch here along with a motivated and moretalented team. Lay the chalk and take the Pirates.
