pete rose got the call from the HOF

    The Reds HOF that is.

Cincy announced today that they will induct him in to the Cincinnati Reds HOF this year, and will build a monument honoring his accomplishments.

I'm surprised they haven't done this a long time ago really. This guy was/is the town hero, and even despite what he did many of years ago they still love him there.

He should be in Cooperstown already as well. They should hang a plaque for his baseball accomplishments, but just not hold a formal induction ceremony and let him bask in the spotlight as his punishment.

I agree with that one as well Willie. However, we both know that will never happen in our lifetimes.

It's going to be interesting how how this steroid era might effect the players on towing the line of induction.

Unless someone was proven (and hearsay and suspicion does not constitute proof) to have taken steroids during a period when it was specifically banned by MLB, it shouldn't come in the way of HOF induction.

The clubs knew what was going on, the baseball authorities knew what was going on and they did nothing to stop it. If the admittance of alleged steroid users somehow taints the name of MLB then so be it. The "steroid era" doesn't bring shame to the players involved, it brings shame on MLB authorities themselves.

You do indeed bring up valid points Taco. However, It's the writers and the current members of the baseball HOF that has the power to induct or not induct. Those players that are towing the line, and have been rumored to have maybe taken roids might not make the cut.

And since it's a Pete Rose thread, I'll get back on topic.

If all he did was wager on various games and not bet against his team while he was playing then it's just a guy with a gambling problem. It could have been drink, it could have been drugs but it ended up being gambling in his case. Just judge him on his numbers, not the problems he had to deal with during his career. If he deserves to get in with his numbers, get him in there.

In all honesty, a HoF without the likes of Pete Rose and Barry Bonds renders it ridiculous.
