Can someone explain to me how the playoff matchups are affected by todays games?

I'm not gonna lie, I havent really followed baseball for awhile, since the O's were last good. And since they're good again, I'm back to following. I dont quite understand how the playoff seeding works, and then since it isnt even finalized yet, I'm still trying to understand. I also know that this is the first year with the 2 wildcard teams playing in a single game so that adds another dimension. Can someone fill me in?

Ok, so here are scenarios that I heard on ESPN:

    Scenario 1:
    Orioles win
    Yankees lose

Yankees and Orioles will play one game to determine who wins the division. The loser of this game is a wildcard team, and will play other wildcard team which is the loser of the Rangers/Athletics game.

    Scenario 2:
    Yankees win or Orioles lose

Orioles (as a wildcard team) will play other wildcard team which the loser of the Rangers/Athletics game.

Then, you have to wait for the result of the wildcard game to determine later matchups.
