Tonight's match-up pits Jon Garland vs. Tim Corcoran. The Sox have never seen Corocoran before but he's done little to confuse his opponents this season.
In fact, the Rays have dropped his L/6 overall starts and he hasn't won a game on the road since the end of June!
On the other hand, Jon Garland has become the ace of the White Sox pitching staff this year. Many thought his remarkable run a season ago was a fluke, but he's done a fine job shutting those nay sayers up after picking up his 15th win of the season by shutting out the Detroit Tigers in his last start. Now, this is some hefty juice to be laying with a Sox squad that's played some inconsistent ball of late, but they own a solid advantage on the hill, and they should be able to handle this Corcoran kid with ease. Jim Thome also plans on returning to the line-up after being placed on the DL the last week with a strained hammy. That only helps our cause. Mission accomplished!
The Sox know how crucial this three game set with the Rays is, and they took care of business last night to recapture the lead in the AL Wild Card race last night. Nothing like the Rays pitching staff to solve your hitting problems as the Sox sprayed 13 hits all over US Cellular Field en route to the 12-9 home victory. With Minny losing last night at home to KC of all teams, the Sox know they must take care of business tonight to hold onto their slim advantage in the WC race. Look for them to come out like gangbusters tonight, and cash our second run-line play on them in a row.
