    Seattle Mariners (130)

    Seattle Mariners (130)

The Mariners are relishing the spoiler role as they are now 6-1 on this current homestand, first taking two of three from the Yankees, then possibly sweeping the Red Sox right out of playoff contention, and then taking the series opener from these Angels last night

Seattle has been winning with pitching lately, as evidenced by the five-hit shutout tossed by Felix Hernandez last night, and Jarrod Washburn has done his part. Washburn held the mighty Yankees to just two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-2 Mariner victory in his last start, marking the third Quality Start in his last four appearances. Washburn should be very familiar with the Angels after coming up through the Anaheim system and spending his whole career there until this season, and he did indeed toss a gem in his only home start vs. the Halos allowing two runs and six hits in seven innings.

Jered Weaver finally suffered his first Major League loss in his last outing after beginning his career 9-0, although he did pitch well enough to win allowing one run in six innings. What is a concern though is that Weaver has now thrown over 100 pitches in five consecutive starts, this from a youngster that has already reached a professional career high in innings pitched. As great as he has been, we do feel that he will allow a few runs tonight, and that may result in another hard-luck loss like last time if Washburn can maintain his form. We will back the hot underdog spoiler at home in this spot.

    Halos Will Win

Weaver Will Shut Down The Mariners Offense Just As Escobar Did All But 1 Inning Last Night. The Only Question In This Game Will Be If The Angels Offense Can Get Going. They Looked Pathetic Against Hernandez Last Night. Last Time The Angels Faced Washburn They Knocked Him Around. Im Playing The Angels Tonight.
