    MLB Trivia - 6/20/06

Since 1961, only three players have jacked walk-off homers in their MLB debut. Who are they?

Nope, the Atlanta right-fielder is not one of them.

However, two of the three players are still active today.

I'm sure that the god-like Miguel Cabrera is one of them.

You are correct, Seņor Taco Cabrera was the most recent player to do so, with his coming exactly three years ago today. In the bottom of the 11th at Joe Robbie, or whatever they called that stadium then, Cabrera connected off Tampa Bay's Al Levine for a 2-run shot to give the Marlins a 3-1 win.

The first guy that popped into my mind was Will Clark. I am fairly sure he went yard in his first big league atbat against Nolan Ryan. However, I believe it was in the astrodome and therefore could not possibly be a walkoff.

Not Rose, Crawford or Will Clark.

You are correct, TexAg, that Will the Thrill homered off Ryan in the Astrodome in his first big league at bat. Two other players, Robby Thompson and Tony Walker, also made their debuts in that same game (April 8, 1986). But both Thompson and Walker whiffed in their first plate appearances.

A little more than six months later, Clark grounded out to Glenn Davis at first as the last out in Mike Scott's no-hitter than clinched the 1986 NL West for Houston.

Back to the question at hand...Of the two remaining players to hit walk-off homers in their first MLB games, one is a catcher and still active while the other was a utility player for an AL club in the 1970s and only hit three career home runs.

Will Clark hit his home run at his first at bat. not a walk-off home run.

i knew Cabrera was one of them, but not sure of the other two offhand.

What, is there an echo in here?

The other two players since 1961 to swat walk-off homers in their MLB debuts are...

Josh Bard, 23 Aug 2002, Jacobs Field, hits 2-run homer in bottom of 9th off James Baldwin to give the Indians a 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Billy Parker, 09 Sep 1971, The Big A (Anaheim), hits solo shot in bottom of the 12th off Floyd Weaver to give the Angels a 3-2 win over the Brewers.
