Pirates won't hold up over the long haul, but they're a good story right now. Like the Padres last year..

Pirates will be playing their 7th catcher this year, unbelievable really, 7 catchers before the all star break. anyways, i like the fact that they keep trying someone new, because brown and mckenry can not hit. what do u guys think of m diaz. im starting to hate him. i hope he changes my mind cuz i understand they want him to hit against lefties but right now i cant stand him. would rather play paul and jones

On July 25, 1956, Roberto Clemente became the only MLB player to have ever scored a walk-off inside-the-park grand slam in a 9-8 Pittsburgh Pirates win over the Chicago Cubs, at Forbes Field.[7]

The tidbit above is the result of a gooogle search. What the search started as was my wanting to know the date in 1972 that Roberto belted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 9th for a 4-3 Pirate win. Turns out it was July 1, 1972 and he hit TWO of `em that day! I was there... I was not alive yet to see the inside-the park homerun!!

I would need to clean my undies if Martinez went to PIT. I am pretty much in mind with you, I am doubtful of any upgrading moves and still think they might end up dealing someone ... Hanrahan will have HUGE value as far as trade bait at the deadline for teams needing bullpen help. Considering he's 30 and hasn't ever done shit before this year, classic sell high scenario. I have a feeling they may have played themselves out of even having to consider being buyers near the deadline any way.

Huge couple of weeks coming up for our Bucs.

I understand the playoff possibility excitement, but I have a feeling this season ends up being a race with. 500.....which will end up feeling Just like a playoff run.

With the stros, cubs, nats and jays coming up, the Pirates need to end the first half of the season about 2-4 games above the mark.

Huge and exciting weeks ahead. I look for Pressley to be called up for the trip to Toronto.

Got to find another bat if they are going to pretend to contend. Still think the sell off is coming soon for the Bucs. Too many teams in the NL Central are going to be in this race for them to stand pat and expect to stay in contention. Expect STL will go out and do whatever they need to do to push forward. Brewers look the class of the division still and may yet pull away. Reds are the X-factor. They haven't played well and are still right in the mix. If they go after some pitching help, they're gonna be right there. Think Maholm & Hanrahan are the likeliest to get traded and really won't have higher trade value than they do right now. Hopefully PIT at least gets a good haul if they do sell some to set up the team to maybe be a bit more of a player next year.

be nice to see what they could be doing with Doumit and Snyder healthy right now especially in these AL road games. feels like a long time since we've been getting any offensive production from the C spot. let's bounce back tomorrow!

I don't necessarily follow the Bucco's, but the starting lineup tonight sucked balls... Not like Brandon Morrow has been lights out all season...

Someone please take this thread behind a shed, and dispose of it.

Pitts lineup is weak as hell.

They are winning games b/c their pitching is above average. But those arms are too young to stay consistent. IMO of course

They haven't had anyone worth a shit offensively at catcher since Sanguillen. I'd settle for one guy who can hit 30 HRs and drive in 100. McCutcheon & Walker are decent run producers, but with one bopper to provide protection - they'd actually have a pretty decent 3-5 potentially. No way McC should be hitting cleanup. Think he'd be great as a #3 with the right guy behind him and Walker at 5.

Whats more amazing (IMO) coming into the season I would without a doubt say that the bats are about 25 times better then the pitching. There is no way in hell I thought (or anyone I know) that the Pirates pitching be anywhere next too good.

That being said, its been pointed out we don't have the toughest stretch of opponents till the all star break but thats almost what I'm afraid of for some reason. I would hate to see them drop below .500 against these teams

Sorry for the pessimism but I'm 23 and I have no memory of a Pirates winning team lol
