Weather effects on MLB Totals
What's up guys.....I'm not too much of an over/ under bettor but I play them here and there, but I was wondering what you guys look for in the weather when doing your research......Also, how much does weather really effect games on a normal basis? Any tips or things to look for?

wind speed and direction.
Cold, and humid air = lower scoring.
Out to Center, right, or left.....which is the best in general? I guess it depends on the hitters/ ballpark? Is wind to dead center the least effective of the 3?Originally Posted by golfrulz

Dry heat, and bad bullpens.
Yeah, can't ever overlook teams with horrible bullpens.....especially when some of the relievers aren't available
Bet umpires also.
See if you can find situations when everything lines up, and then fire away.
completely disregard it because the books have the same weather reports and factor it into the line

Also, how much of a effect do umps and weather really have on the outcome in general?

Professor Robert Adair has done research on weather and baseball. His results are interesting and he was the official baseball physics guy for ahwhile. Wind has the greatest effect, with cold and dry=low scoring and hot and humid=higher scoring. Oddsmakers are on top on the wind factor but pay little attention to cooler/hotter. Pitchers complain of decreased sensation in the throwing hand on cold days which in turn makes throwing change-ups more difficult. Cold may give a pitcher who relies on fastballs an edge over a junkerballer like Wakefield. I personally only use "cold" as a betting variable with cold contributing to lower scoring w/other low scoring variables obviously.

You really have to get to know the stadium. This is helpful, Ballpark Layouts.
Rangers ballpark is extra strange, when the wind is coming in (from south) the ball actually travels better because the way the stadium is set up. The flags will be blowing in but it creates a jet stream out.
the weather can have different effects on different ballparks as well. just because the wind in that city is blowing 20 mph one way. doesn't mean it is doing that inside of the ballpark. and under-rated thing I look at is that lack of humidity and its effect on pitchers that really on alot more off-speed stuff. same thing goes for colorado and the thin air. you won't get as much break in those conditions.
