I think Lackeys going to get beaned. He will not have pitched in ten days when he takes the mound tomorrow.

He is already a below average pitcher. I can only guess that the extended time off will do no help either, when you are trying to get into a routine.

lackey has good numbers against the a's, i see him pitching well. You saw what the extra rest did for dice-k, maybe it'll work for lackey. It's not like oakland has a powerhouse lineup, and the sox offense is starting to click. big play on boston and yanks for me tomorrow night.

even so you have to agree that if the sox offense plays well they have a good shot at winning.

I must admit that Lackeys 2 starts, were against arguably the two best offenses(Tex/Yanks) in baseball.

But his numbers were horrendous, and make it impossible for me to make an argument for him to improve.

Oakland bats, and stadium will do nothing but help Lackey.

And to your point about BoSox's chances of winning. Brett Andersen, pitches well against them also.

Oakland at home is the play. Red sox have to travel after an early game today. Lackey has been shelled so far this year. I'm not gonna be fooled by the Sox. Everyone will be on them thinking they have broken out, but the A's pitching is the real deal.

Lackey has pitched well at oakland in his career.

doesn't it help that it was an early game and not a late one? I think they'll be nice and rested, and more importantly adjusted to the time difference upon arrival.

I think oaklands putching is one of the best in the league, however, they are still losing games. Why? Because their lineup isn't all that strong. All it takes is a few hits to win against them.

Boston is not absolutely better but I can see them hit andersn tonight for a few runs and get a win to start a road trip right.

Boston with their momentum should come out on top. But bol to all. Its near a coin flip imo. Just slightly more in favor of the sox

Gotta love a thread with differing opinions.

    It was actually helpful.

To bad the op was talking about the first half total.

I actually think the Red Sox will win in a close 3-1 or 3-2 type of game. According to how many bunts Oakland can lay down. Oakland is my favorite team but that offense is hard to bet on.

I can guarantee that Lackey's ERA at season's end will be nowhere near 16. His career ERA is 3.95. He is due for a quality start soon if not tonight. Maybe you play streaks regarding teams but established players will likely regress to within a standard deviation of their career numbers by the time October rolls around. Look at what Zambrano, Lilly, Dice-K did yesterday. The A's are simply not clicking offensively, Lackey has a good history in that park....I just convinced myself to play the Sox.

Zambrano has won his last 11 starts dating back to last year.

He has never had a losing season, or an ERA over 4. He has also posted a 58% career winning percentage.

I will ask of you to not compare Zambrano to that bum Lackey. Zambrano is a career winner, who has been misrepresented in the media.

Respectfully, my point was that Zambrano's ERA going in last night was 6.11 for the season. Yes what you state about CZ is true plus it supports my point with respect to career numbers versus numbers in the short term. He was due to pitch well and he did.
