The PGA Tour returns to Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, and brings along Scottie Scheffler as the commanding betting favorite as we make our Houston Open picks based on the PGA Tour odds from our best golf betting sites as the field prepares for the Masters.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler took just one week off after recording back-to-back wins in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship and returns to play as a prohibitive betting favorite by the Texas Children's Houston Open odds.

The PGA Tour returns to Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, for the first time since Tony Finau's victory in 2022. Finau is back to defend that title, but he's a distant third on the oddsboard, with Scheffler topping the list over Wyndham Clark, Finau, and Will Zalatoris.

This top-heavy 144-man field could impact the Masters odds, with Scheffler already the clear favorite for Augusta National Golf Course.

Here are our Texas Children's Houston Open picks based on this week's PGA Tour odds.

Houston Open picks

Keith Mitchell to win (without Scheffler, Finau, Zalatoris, Clark)

Best odds: +2800 via Caesars

In a peculiar case highlighting the importance of shopping around at our best sports betting sites, Caesars offers Mitchell at +2800 to win the Houston Open without Scheffler, Finau, Will Zalatoris, or Wyndham Clark. In theory, Mitchell could finish fifth on the overall leaderboard behind those four golfers, and this bet would cash.

BetMGM offers the exact same odds for Mitchell to win in a field without only Scheffler.

Of course, bettors would need to accept that Mitchell is coming off of a fourth-round collapse in last week's Valspar Championship in which he shot plus-6 on Sunday while losing strokes in every meaningful metric. Still, he was second in the field for the week in strokes gained: approach and third in SG: tee-to-green. Those have been his consistent strengths during 2024.

Mitchell played this event in each of the past three years it was held with a top finish of T-9 in 2022. He also enters this week third on the PGA Tour for the 2024 season in birdie-or-better percentage for Memorial Park GC's key distance of 200-plus yards.

He possesses the driving distance and accuracy, and the elite iron play to be in contention. We just need him to be closer to average with his flat stick to take advantage of a mispriced prop from Caesars.

Si Woo Kim top Rest of World

Best odds: +475 via bet365

The Houston Open is very American heavy with the top five favorites in the outright market all hailing from the U.S. Kim is a consensus second by the top Rest of World odds, with Australian Jason Day as the favorite across the board.

Kim has limited history at Memorial Park GC, with a T-35 finish in the fall of 2022 following a missed cut in his course debut in 2020. However, he enters this year's event in excellent form for the course, ranking third in this field in SG: tee-to-green across his last 16 rounds. He also ranks third in driving accuracy in that time, and he's 12th for the 2024 season in birdie-or-better percentage on approach shots from 200-plus yards.

bet365 is the only one of our best sports betting apps offering odds better than +450 on this prop.

How to bet on golf

Betting on golf involves understanding the various types of bets available and how to assess player performance. First, familiarize yourself with the different types of bets commonly offered in golf, including outright winner bets, each-way bets (which cover both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups between two players, and proposition bets on specific events within a tournament, such as hole-in-one occurrences or individual player performances on certain holes.

Once you've identified the types of bets you're interested in, research the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that could influence outcomes. Pay attention to factors like player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may affect a player's performance.
