San Jose State vs. Washington State Prediction, Picks & Odds: Week 4

Two 3-0 teams meet in Washington, but we have a beat on the home team as the San Jose State Spartans enter the game after playing lesser competition in the first three weeks.

The Washington State Cougars host the San Jose Spartans in a Friday night Week 4 college football matchup.

Will the Cougars come out fired up after their win over the Washington Huskies, or are they in for a letdown? The answer to that question is the focal point of my best San Jose State vs. Washington State prediction.

Both teams are 3-0, though the Cougars have the more impressive wins.

That said, Spartans’ quarterback Emmett Brown has thrown for 915 yards this season. Will he continue to have success on Friday and potentially lead his team to an upset victory?

The below prediction is part of our comprehensive college football Week 4 predictions

San Jose State vs. Washington State against the spread prediction: Week 4

Washington State to cover the spread: -12 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

San Jose State vs. Washington State opening odds:

The spread opened at 14.5, and many bettors rightfully backed the Spartans to cover.

Because of the public support, the number has dropped to 12, and at this point, the value is on the Cougars.

BetMGM and FanDuel still have the spread set at 12.5, but they’re not offering a price better than DraftKings.

Cougars avoid the letdown, eventually

This is going to be a rough first half for the Cougars.

They’re coming off a huge win over their in-state rivals, which is more meaningful because of conference realignment. The Cougars will come out flat early, so the Spartans are a good first-half play against the spread.

All that said, the Cougars are far superior to the Spartans.

The Spartans are 3-0 strictly because of their schedule. In Week 1, they played Sacramento State, and while they got the win, they allowed 24 points.

Brown has outstanding numbers to start the season, but again, his stats are inflated because of the Spartans’ easy schedule.

The Cougars allowed over 400 yards last week, but their bend-don’t-break style was too much for the Huskies, and it will be too much for the Spartans this week.

And John Mateer is the X-factor. He’s going to light up the San Jose State defense.

Emmett Brown Under 271.5 passing yards (-115) ⭐⭐⭐

Brown threw just four passes last season, so all I really have to go off of are his first three performances of the season. While he’s thrown for at least 262 yards in every game and just threw for 355 and four touchdowns in Week 3, the increase in competition will smother him this week.

The Cougars are allowing 334.5 passing yards per game. However, they’ve also been playing with the lead most of the season, and they’ve faced offenses with talent.

Brown will do well against Mountain West competition this season, but he’s not Will Rogers.

Even if his team falls behind by multiple scores early, he won’t be able to clear this number against the first good defense he’s played this season.

FanDuel has the number at 269.5, but they’re asking -114 for the Under. Since the price difference is nominal, take the higher number at bet365.

A winning $10 wager will profit $8.70.

Best odds: -115 via bet365 | Implied probability: 53.49%
