Germany is sandbagging or playing possum with their lineup. Mueller, draxler and reus as midfielders instead of strikers? Ozil as forward instead of midfield? Ok Lowe, I guess it's halloween

    Group G :

    1. Belgium
    2. England
    3. Tunisia
    4. Panama

The game between England and Belgium should be one that you circle on the calender. With all due respect to Tunisia and Panama , this group will be decided on June 28th. It will be the final game of the group stage and have HUGE impact on any future games played for both teams.

Thur June 28th : Tunisia vs Panama

    Tunisia @ 2.15 ( 3 units )

By no means is this group a foregone conclusion. Outside of Australia , who are a step down in class from the other 3 , on any given day 1 through 3 can easily reverse. Still , going on depth and recent form, and the reinstatement of Guerrero in Peru's starting line up, i am picking them to advance.

    Wager :

    Peru to advance @ 3.90 ( 1 unit )
Denmark is IMO stronger than Peru

    Group H :

    1. Colombia
    2. Poland
    3. Senegal
    4. Japan

Colombia are healthy and very well represented this tournament. Players like Flacao , Bacca , Cuardado , Uribe , Muriel and Rodriguez..... are all available at the same time, and playing great football. The Friendly that they played in Paris on Mar 23rd , showed everyone what they are capable of ( a 3 - 2 win against France's finest ). Poland have a very fast transition game with the likes of Grosicki and Zielinski, who have great pace down the wings. They also have Blaszczykowski back , after numerous injuries At Wolfsburg , who once made defenders cringe at his great pace ( not so much lately ). You wont be able to stop Lewandoski from scoring a few along the way , but the back 4 is very shaky at best.

I will await the opportunity to bet Poland Overs as the games approach, and keep an eye on the June 24th game vs Colombia. Without any key injuries to either side , it will be Colombia for me

Hard to argue either way. FIFA has them at # 11 and # 12. Seems about right.

Peru are undefeated since 2016 , while Erikson has Denmark playing like they are The Kings of Europe. In the end i just like a lot of the " bit parts " that Peru now possess. Players like Forlan and Cueva and Guerrero. Add in the talented Yotun and Carill ( playing a bit at Watford now ). This team has really evolved the past 2 years. I believe too

I can remedy the situation by betting on Denmark to go through or fade Peru when the time comes

Knowing seaweed, Peru will lose their first 2 games and I won't even have a chance

    Franz-
Great to see a World Cup Thread by SBR's resident football expert!

I looked to see the WC Cup matches for today and I only see women
on the schedule. So I guess that the men are scheduled to play on Thursday.
I have never followed the World cup but I may get my baptism this year.

One thing that I happened to notice- THE TROPHY.
The World Cup trophy as pictured on TV is underwhelming, nebbish looking to say the least.
I am also new to the Stanley Cup playoffs.but maybe FIFA could take a cue from the NHL...
By Jove, that Stanley Cup is a mighty trophy worth fighting for.
Maybe you could put a buzz in the ear of the Trophy Committee over in Zurich to upgrade
the hardware and maybe improve the fervor of competition.

I would guess that you are German and you're a fanatical supporter of the German squad.
I wish you and your national squad strong victories as you venture on the field of battle.
May you bring great glory to the fatherland and the pure German nation. May the mighty German nation hoist that damn whatever-it-is-trophy over your heads with victory and great pride.

Franz, I hope that you crush this tournament with a winning slate of plays all the way through the finals.
May you snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and cash hugh winning tickets!!!
    Prost!

I lived in T.O until 1988. Bought a house in Burlington and commuted everyday by GO train. I was an institutional Bond Trader in T.O and NY for 20 years. We moved farther West to a small town outside of Brantford.
I try to limit my trips back to TO, it's gotten way too busy.

Not many flags in our small town. Lol

I live downtown Toronto right now (stone's throw away from Rogers Centre). I also lived in Oakville for a while, right near the harbour by the lake where Sharkey's used to be (now a condo building)

No. I am a bit cautious with this squad. Injury concerns. Who will score. A rotating back 4

I have them losing to Spain in the semi's tho
