    Milwaukee Mike, the happy wanderer

Some of the happiest people that I've met were in poorer countries. They were people who had the least but seemed genuinely happy with less cares. They took pleasure in the simple things in life. More money, more problems.

The problem is, the people who have been unhappy for fabricated reasons in their feeble minds, are making everyone else unhappy with their unacceptable actions.

I highly recommend the book The Happiness Hypothesis to everyone. It's not a self-help book btw. Below is an excerpt from the book:

“Where does happiness come from? There are several different “happiness hypotheses.” One is that happiness comes from getting what you want, but we all know (and research confirms) that such happiness is short-lived. A more promising hypothesis is that happiness comes from within and cannot be obtained by making the world conform to your desires. This idea was widespread in the ancient world: Buddha in India and the Stoic philosophers in ancient Greece and Rome all counseled people to break their emotional attachments to people and events, which are always unpredictable and uncontrollable, and to cultivate instead an attitude of acceptance. This ancient idea deserves respect, and it is certainly true that changing your mind is usually a more effective response to frustration than is changing the world. However, I will present evidence that this second version of the happiness hypothesis is wrong. Recent research shows that there are some things worth striving for; there are some external conditions of life that can make you lastingly happier. One of these conditions is relatedness—the bonds we form, and need to form, with others. I’ll present research showing where love comes from, why passionate love always cools, and what kind of love is “true” love. I’ll suggest that the happiness hypothesis offered by Buddha and the Stoics should be amended: Happiness comes from within, and happiness comes from without. We need the guidance of both ancient wisdom and modern science to get the balance right.”

I was at my happiest when I used to go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week... exercise and strong routine is a big key to happiness for many, but it's hard to achieve for many as well

The problem is people take things and people for granite until it’s too late, me included. Something I’m working on...trying to be happy with the things I have, and try to appreciate how lucky I am.

It's (mostly) about attitude. You can decide to be happy. Now of course if you truly are broke, shunned, and homeless, then yeah it's tough.

I have everything I need in my life. I should be as happy as anyone on Earth. Yet, I'm not and I worry excessively to a degree that's mental illness. It stems from anxiety. I, too, am working on it, but I have been for quite awhile. I finally asked my psychiatrist Monday where is the help I see advertised. The takeaway for me was there's gonna be periods of good and bad. Deal with it.

    Thanks, Doc.

    Thank your for those words.

Funny thing is excluding the hip problems my specialist tells me my diet is near perfect and she says I'm pretty much in the best shape of my life right now.

Getting older does have a lot of upside too.
    It's all good.
    Peace brother.

i think going to a psychiatrist and psychoanalyzing stupid shit is a mistake (and costly)

sitting on a beach looking at the water with a nice sandwich and a drink is all anyone needs... rinse and repeat... or play golf every day, or the movies, or the casino, poker room, whatever the happy place is
