Hip hop passed rock n roll years ago in terms of cultural relevance.

i think if you sent recordings by those 4 artists to a music professor they'd say they are well done (maybe not all beatles songs, esp. earlier ones) whereas hip hop is poorly done.

too much of hip hop is someone with no or little music talent/experience talking/singing over electronic beat...... it's basically much ado about absolutely nothing....... to me it's more like social poetry not well done music.
It's common denominator crap pushed by Marxist media

Artistry and talent has been replaced by primal rhythms and simplistic base urges

Hugebusiness get a dose of this..

Motown was solid back in the day.. Old school.. I like it even now and this was before my day...This was music talent, harmony and melody with a splash of show time...

Don't let facts and common sense get into this argument Jibby. It's clear the old school stuff is terrible compared to the fantastic rap music out there today....
Good music with a good beat.

Compared to IDK what the f*** this is:

Although to be fair, maybe there was actually a b**** in his way he wanted to move.

What difference does it make if they listen to it in 20-30 years?

Music is art. I'm not a big rap/hip-hop fan, but the idea that the massive market for it would only be because of the image is laughable.

Every generation thinks theirs was the last that had great music.

I saw Earth Wind and Fire play at the Hollybowl a few years age.. It was a great concert.. Very talented band..

Yes the new crap today sucks. There's nothing today that sounds as good as the Earth Wind and Fire tunes of yesterday..

holy sh*t that is horrible...if this is what the "new generation" is calling hip hop, then hip hop is fkd, RIP...off the rails hollow, no substance and no talent needed to "create" that...

Is trash... What do you know a young wanna be gang banger rapping to a boring repetitive beat, lyrics are about the thug life.. Same old shit with this new era of rap...

More rap about big rims and hoes... Gorilla Zoe.. One of the better rapping voices but his crap still kinda sucks..

Agreed.. I'm the same... Love all types of music, listen to it all, I'm a music historian in a sense also... Can play several different musical instruments fairly well also, piano, guitar, and drums... Not great at any though.. Basic play..

Maybe we are being to harsh on BB. The good news for him is that it sounds like he has plenty of musical discoveries to come...if he thinks the new stuff is good then his mind will be blown if he's open minded enough to start working his way backwards.

For hip hop...start with classical, this will help you appreciate the fundimentals of creating sound, then move to blues and classic rock where stories are being told, even check disco(before it became mainstream and fruity) this is where you will see experiments with new sound technologies prevail...THEN check out the emerging Hip hop, right at the tail end of disco, early to mid 80s, this is where the 808 begins to take over paving the way for a new era of the DJ...early-mid 80's to mid-late 90s is the sweet spot for hip hop IMO.

NWA had some good rap beats back in the day.. Easy E a good rap voice as well... Snoop Dog then busted on the scene after that... Those guys were all better rappers then what we hear today.. Dr Dre at Death Row Records was really good at creating the rap songs and beats back in the day..

Biggie Smalls wasn't bad either back in the day..

Both great story tellers. I like the faster tempo of biggie, probably influenced by a fast paced NYC...NWA was a movement in its own. Combining stories of life mixed with the emerging technology and pushing the limits of controversial explicit lyrics...speaking of NYC, Beastie Boys and run-DMC wrecked it there for a long time...
