    Who plays Chess here?

Any people good at chess here?

I used to have a FIDE rating of 2087 when I was 16 years old. But college and now work has stopped me from playing any further.

Havent played chess in nearly a decade...but would love to play with someone.

    Anyone good at chess here?

I am 1900 USCF. I am rusty like you so I might give you a decent showing. I used to be able to beat NM and FM when I put the time in.

    2087? That's almost a National Master.

I play. I'm decently good. Not sure about ratings though because I've never played competitively.

2087 could be a NM. Getting the title just takes strong showings in a tournament with other NM playing. Norms I think they are called.

I like chess, don't get to play often. I'm a very average player.

The United States Chess Federation (USCF) awards the Title of National Master to anyone who achieves a USCF rating of 2200, and the title of Senior Master to anyone who achieves a USCF rating of 2400. The USCF also awards the Life Master title to anyone who holds a 2200 rating for a total of 300 or more games in his or her lifetime.

I'm sure you could find a few here and there...but if bullshitting was against the law a large majority would be doing time

Looks like 2087 would make you a National Expert or Candidate Master.

I would probably be in National Class C (USCF 1400-1599) -- average tournament player.

yeah me too. I used to play all the time. I would watch all of the pros play on ICC. I was better than my rating, but I didn't have the time to play in a lot of tournaments OTB. I could have gotten to over 2000 if I had more time to put into the tournament life. Not a lot of chess tournaments here in Tampa. I had to travel a lot to get to them.

You don't sweat or get a cardio workout from playing either game.

Play a chess game for 8 hours and you will break down mentally. It takes a great deal of mental endurance to play chess at the higher levels.

2087 rating is insanely good, especially for a 16 year old. I played a decent amount of Chess in High School as well but I know was nowhere near that good. My favorite game is Othello/Reversi and all the variations of it. I'd really like to compete in the 6x6 World Championships someday. If anyone in here plays Othello/Reversi let me know!

Also, I've always really liked the ELO rating system. There's an MMA site that has an ELO rating system and I consider it pretty accurate. Does anyone know of any websites where they use an ELO rating system for other sports?

Jeff Sagarin rates teams from eight different sports based on ELO.

I don't have the attention span for games that long. I used to play against a friend often and would read a book during his turn because he took forever.

I was also close to 2000 ELO when I was active. I was more of a grinder, liquidating into endgames with an small edge. Most often than not I won such endgames, as most young players suck at endgames.
Have not played in tournaments for some years. Every now and then I play with friends, but it is frustrating being so rusty, often having a solid positional grip just to fall to an easy tactic.

BTW, I am a FIDE International Arbiter and supplement my income directing local and national chess tournaments. My top event ever was the World Championship on Mexico City 2007, where I worked as a deputy arbiter.

I am very aggressive. I like to play gambit openings and throw the pieces at my opponent making forcing moves. My favorite players are Morphy and Fischer. I usually have trouble with positional players, but I can adjust to a closed game if I have to. I just prefer to play with more tactical styles and keep the game opened up. I will sac my queen for 2 rooks or 3 minors in a second. I know some players avoid losing their lady, but I actually like playing without her if I get compensation.
