what to do if your phone service gets shutoff
beside the fact that im a degen and my phone service got disconnected b/c the bill was extremely high and i couldnt pay it, ive found a somewhat feasible way around it using Google Voice (or google talk)
it lets you pick a # which u can choose to enter any zipcode or area code, doesnt have to be where you live, although some area/zip codes dont have any available numbers.
it allows you to make domestic calls for free from that number from your pc or labtop. just go into the settings and monkey around with the microphone/playback to match whatever you have. i dont have a microphone so i use an old bluetooth headset to speak into and listen (may have to change windows sound settings as well for this). i could have the sound output to headphones or speakers as well.
i mean the downside is you're calling from a differnt number, USA calls only, and theres like a 3 hour time limit, and also you have to do it from your computer or laptop, but its basically like free outgoing phone service! i just talked to my buddy for like 2 hours on it, he said i sounded perfectly clear.
if u have working cell or landline service you can get incoming calls from google voice too. it ports your google number to any phone(s) you want.
this is great if you need someone to call you and dont want them to have your real number (but especially works great for paypal hacking i.e. if you need to create a fake account and have them call u on google number for verification and the call will go to your cell or house phone...ps i have never hacked paypal) you can also make the outgoing calls from your regular phone as well and have it show up as the google number on recipients id. google will call your phone and when it rings it will be dialing whoever u were calling.
just thought i'd share if anyone had a similar situation or had a broke phone or just simply needed a new phone number
