    Honeymoon Destination

    Alright travel guys.....

I am in the process of trying to figure out a vacation destianation, for my upcoming honeymoon. My wife, would like to go on a Sandals resort trip to Jamaica or Montego Bay. I am not a huuuuge fan of leaving the country.

We have discussed Vegas for a few days and then maybe somewhere else. We have even discussed hitting up a bunch of MLB ballparks, but I think both of us would prefer a weeklong stay somewhere warm. Any suggestions? Where is a safe and nice place? Hawaii? Jamaica?? California? San Diego???

Help me out brothers. I am merely a West Virginian, who hasnt been too many places outside of the east coast. I do have some money to burn.

Don't go to Vegas. Hawaii is nice but expensive. Ever think about maybe an island like St. Lucia? It is mature and not so cliche.

That's what I am thinking. My wife offered that we could spend the week following my Pirates around....Chicago and New York. I think she was just being nice, but I wouldnt do that to her.

I just went to Montego Bay, Jamaica for my honeymoon a year and a half ago (August '09). We stayed at an all inclusive. I would definitely recommend going there and also, do the all inclusive route. There was amazing food (whenever you wanted it), drinks served to you while you sat on the beach, and because its all inclusive the beach is blocked off. So you don't have people trying to sell you stuff all the time.

Plus, depending on your indulgence in Mary Jane, it is easily accessible. Nothing better than burning one down and hitting up the buffet or sitting by the pool while you get served (free) drinks.

Lastly, the country was beautiful and the ocean felt like bath water.

Check out Apple Vacations for some pretty sweet deals and all inclusive type spots.

Aruba. Marriott or Hyatt. Anywhere else in Caribbean is probably too hot in June.

You mentioned Sandals, which is a much different product from the all the others you mentioned, so I'm not sure what your looking for. But an all-inclusive is the way to go. You'll spend the same for a vaca in the Pacific with nothing included as you will in the Caribbean with everything (all-inclusive). There are many good choices to choose from in the Caribbean or Mexico. If you choose Jamaica, make sure you stay in Negril area, NOT MoBay or Ocho. DO NOT stay at Sandals, their properties are way outdated compared to some others and way overpriced. The 80's was ClubMed, 90's was Sandals, etc, etc. Take a look at Couples Swept Away or Couples Negril. Also the 2 newer Secrets resorts that are in Mobay are awesome, but again, I'd rather not stay in MoBay. Other than that look at St Lucia, Antigua, or Aruba if you want a clean, safe, adult orientated experience. I used to be in the travel industry, so if you want more detailed info or suggestions just PM me.

    Negril Jamaica.

We stayed at Riu Palace Tropical Bay. 1100 per person for Air and Hotel, and it was an all-inclusive.

The resort was really nice and all the Jamaicans we ran into off the resort were very friendly. And it's a positive that it's an english speaking country for the most part.

Great places also to go to off the resort. Half of that part of the Island is beach and the other part is "cliffs" We took a cab over to the cliff side to a resort, and spent the day snorkeling and cliff jumping over there. We stopped at the tourist trap Ricks Cafe on a catamaran Booze cruise which was pretty fun.

Overall the place was top notch, tried booking a trip to go next week, but I guess prices aren't very cheap when you try to get out of country with only a weeks notice.

Remember that Montego Bay is where the airport is...It's nice because the resorts aren't a hour drive from the airport, but then again maybe Ouman can chime in, but you may be seeing/hearing alot of airplane noise at the resort.

We stayed in Ocho Rios a few years back and the Sandals there was very nice. We didn't stay there, but walked over one night to hang out.

Yep, that's where I was going to suggest, me and Queen Bee honeymooned there, went there before we got married and have been back three times since. KW has lost some of its charm since I first visited in early 80s, the worst change is it's become a day stop for a lot of cruises so Duval Street, Jackson Square, Land's End Marina, places like that can get overcrowded at times. You might check out some of the other Keys, like Marathon or Big Pine, there have been some very nice resorts that will be free of kids for the most part.

Fly into Miami, take in a Marlins game (you mentioned something about baseball), spend a night at the Biltmore in Coral Gables, then drive down to Keys the next day, maybe a little more than three hours or so from Miami to the Keys. If you don't want to drive, take a puddle jumper from Miami to KW of you are going to stay at KW. You won't need a car there, just rent a couple of bicycles.

I've never even thought of vacationing down in Key West. My brother went there last year with his wife and said it was pretty awesome. I'd like to grab a group of friends and rent out a few rooms or rent a house for the week.

I stayed at the Iberostar in Montego Bay. It was about a 10-15 minute drive from the air port, so there wasn't any noise from planes (you didn't see any for that matter). It is a 3 hotel complex, so they have about a mile and a half of beach that is blocked off. It was very up-to-date and we had great service. I can echo what EHP said, that I have heard/read reviews that some of the Sandals resorts are a little out-dated and were pricey compared to some of the other great places. He may know better as to whether Negril is better than Montego Bay, but, like I said, I would recommend the Iberostar in Montego Bay as being an awesome place. We traveled outside of the resort on a couple of days and didn't have any problems. You may want to check out tripadvisor.com also. You can read up on people's experiences with different hotels/locations, and I also found some cool excursions to go on from that site as well.

Places like Vegas and Hawaii are overrated for honeymoons....You've got to go somewhere that will make it an "experience"...somewhere like London, Paris, etc.

Dont come to San Diego in June. There's a decent chance you wont get good weather. Tends to be overcast quite a bit in June. The water wont be very warm either.

I dont really have any suggestions. I have been all across Europe and South America, but you're looking at 2,000 in airfare. Not worthit if you're only going to stay for a week.

I have been to Cabo, Cancun, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. All of those places are very nice, but can be a little shady.

Hawaii. Do you want to support America or some dope heads in Jamacia?

In Hawaii the weather is always perfect, you have volcanos, surfing ( for beginners), snorkeling, music, culture, parties, city, history ( Peark Harbor) and there is a TON of stuff to do. I know you think Hawaii is crazy expensive, but it's not. Depending where you stay it can be very very reasonable. I suggest getting a moderate/lower end room because you will never be in it. Trust me there are deals out there and it's romantic.

I would say if you don't like that then Miami ( South Beach) or somewhere in Southern Florida that has a big resort. Not sure exactly what you are looking for.

Vegas is fun, not for every couple. Gambling, shows, sun, great food, just seeing the buildings is amazing. They are truly temples of gambling and a work of art.

If it's important for you to stay in America I say Hawaii. If you want to go international then maybe a place like Barcelona.

    Niagara Falls

perfect for the time of year you would be going

you could get a honeymoon suite overlooking the falls. they have fireworks over the falls at night. take a boat ride on the maid of the mist. hit any 1 of 3 nearby casinos. plenty of things to do.

Aruba also has the best food in the Caribbean. If you're used to good restaurants, don't expect the same in Jamaica or most other islands.

The name doesn't ring a bell, but we've walked into so many places down there over the years there's no way I'd remember them all.

Turtle Kraal's probably ranks up there on my list, one of the best oyster poboy's I've ever had. Wife was always partial to Pepe's for breakfast. Louie's Backyard was a bit overrated in my opinion, pretty good food but way steep on the prices. I would stay away from Margaritaville unless you want to just slip in. pick up a postcard or two or a t-shirt, food never impressed me.

The little places where locals go are also very good. There's a little market-slash-cafe on Simonton and United, right across the street from the Hibiscus Hotel where we've stayed all but twice. That little cafe has a great breakfast and makes the best Cuban coffee. There's also a little dive bar-package store on Simonton, maybe close to Truman Street, called the Bottle Cap. Good place to pick up a bottle and have a drink, play pool.
