Hexversi has the exact same rules as Othello except the board is shaped like a hexagon and there is a dead spot in the middle of the board as seen in the image below. You cannot play through the dead spot, you must play around it. If you do not know how to play Othello, I recommend that you watch the minute and a half video below, and you will know ALL of the rules.

I'll keep this going until 10 people beat it. You can only win this ONCE. AND, you can't use someone else's screenshot. In other words.... it has to be a unique configuration. This is NOT a strong AI. It's VERY aggressive. Aggressive play is EASY to beat once you know how to deal with it.

Here's some hints to how games are Won. Games are NOT won by gobbling up as many pieces as you can on every single move. This is a TERRIBLE strategy. Games are won by trying to run your opponent out of options/moves entirely, and forcing them to give you a corner. Whomever has more options/moves, is ALMOST ALWAYS winning the game, regardless of what the score says.

When it comes to piece count, you'll usually want to think "less is MORE", until you can get a corner. Try to keep your pieces INSIDE of your opponents pieces. This will create MORE options/moves for you.

Once you run your opponent out of options(good ones at least), then you get to dictate the direction of the game, and getting your piece count up high and winning the game after that is easy. Good luck!

Yes, you are eligible. For the regular puzzles I'm going to cap it at 100 points, so... you can only win twice. And for the AI, you can only win once. Here's how I post a screenshot.... I use this link:

The AI is not very strong. It's VERY aggressive(aggressive players are terrible once you know how to deal with them). Read post #1 on tips on how to beat the AI. And don't play the hexes in Red in the image below too early against the AI. These are called X-hexes. These are delicate hexes because they are next to the corner so you must play them wisely.

Also, in case I haven't mentioned it, corners are VERY VERY good to have because they are yours to keep. And once you get a corner, you can start working FROM that corner, and those pieces are yours to keep as well.



If you have never played in a Hexversi Tournament before, and you are the FIRST player to beat the AI, and you post a screenshot that you beat it, I will give you 200 Points. 9 other players will get 100, even if you have played in a Hexversi Tournament before.

F2. If it were purple's turn right now they would have exactly 2 available moves. F2 has the neat property of eliminating one of those, so purple is forced to play the space directly left of it, no other option. This gives green the SE corner, leading directly to both the East and SW corners, and eventually gives them total control of the board

It's always good to look for knockout moves like this when your opponent's pieces are mostly on the outside and they have very few available moves!

We have a Winner!! blanko explained it well, but I'm going to go ahead and it explain it again anyway. Green playing f2, leaves Purple with exactly ONE option at e3 in the image below. This will give Green the SE corner, as well as the SW corner and the Eastern corner. Now, look at image #2.


The image below is right after Purple played e3. And now as you can see, Green is going to get the SE corner, as well as the Eastern corner, as well as the SW corner, AND... Green has SEVERAL other options as well.... I didn't fill in all of the notation for Green... but Green is in COMPLETE control of this game right now because Green gets to pick and choose which moves Green gives to Purple for the remainder of the game. Purple has exactly 2 options as seen below. They are b6, and j2. Both of which are TERRIBLE. Btw... Green doesn't have moves at a6 and k1 just yet in these images... but they will shortly. This game is going to be a blowout.

I still do them occasionally at the Othello Academy Discord but it's so damn hard to find good puzzles for those guys lol...

I appreciate your explanation, blanco. When I first looked at the position I didn't realize the f2 position would get retaken by purple on the next move because of the edge piece. Your explanation caused me to look more closely at it... I need to get better at reading the board and posts like yours and JohnGalt's make that a little easier.
