baseball needs to do something about these games taking forever

astros white sox took 4 hours 32 minutes for a 10-1 game

Way too long, who could have sat there and watched the whole thing?

Back in the day, that could have been a doubleheader

Believe they got Theo Epstein working trying to speed these games up

    What do you propose?

maybe start each hitter with 2 strikes, play 2 outs instead of 3? strictly enforce a pitch clock?

As a starter no one is allowed to walk. Players, coaches, umpires. If everyone is not walking the game will be shortened by at least 1 hr.

I was thinking make it 3 balls for a walk 2 strikes, maybe fouls don’t count as strikes.

That will never happen of course.

Would like to watch some old school games before I was born against a game nowadays and see why we are talking forever. I know they work the pitch count more now.

You see how fat the umpires are they would all die lol

In all seriousness maybe you could do this with guys who strike out, walk. Has to be all running from players once the inning starts.

If you watch a football game the players are sprinting in a out of the game between plays to get subbed and beat the play clock.

Well maybe they can hire soccer umpire replacements. Have you seen how fit those are?

Most people under 50 probably agree with you. Attention spans have gotten shorter and baseball has went the other way

Put a time clock on the pitchers and enforce it. If they don't throw the ball within the allotted time, it's an automatic ball.

    Problem solved.

Great idea, I’d be down for 12 man rosters and say you can use a MAX of 3 pitchers.

Well...you gotta give the manager some ability to match up

But the issue w time in baseball is that teams are built to milk the other teams starter because they feel they are deeper in the pen (Bos/ NYY started this early 00s)

However, if all teams had parity here, because your depth chart is 8 position players, 1 starter, 5 bench players/ releivers, then the quality of the depth of your roster isn't an advantage, and there is no incentive to work counts only to advance the game, but rather to score often and early.

This was the general pre expansion philosophy...pitching was deep. Starters went 6 or 7, the receiver went 2 or 3 and maybe you had a closer. Every team had horses, hence games went fast.

With modern pitching watered down, we've evolved to specialists, and that's the issue...so take away the perception of an advantage there.

The time clock is somewhat realistic.

There should be something to get them off the field when they get out as well. Give the next guy a strike if they take too long getting off the field, at least during the inning.

    Looking at fats idea

You basically have 22 at maximum each game anyways. Usually a reliever will be off limits as well, so that’s 21. I would say you need a long relief, closer, and 1 left and 1 right you need for middle relief, and a starter. Let’s say 5 pitchers. Go to a DH universal, 9 in the lineup. Backup C, 2 extra bats. That’s 17 players, 9 reserves like soccer where they are on the team but they don’t actually get to play. I like the idea but I say 17 at least

Give each team 3 timeouts. Mound visit equals 1 timeout. If manager wants a mid inning pitching change have a bullhorn like the purge or something. We don’t need his old ass walking out slowing down the game

I’m not going to lie, I’m a huge baseball fan but these playoffs have been boring as hell so far this year. Some of the longest most boring non eventful games I’ve witnessed

That Braves vs Brewers game Monday was maybe the most boring ever, only one inning where a team scored

    Baseball is baseball.
Cant make a pitcher hurry from one throw to the next. Might damage his arm sooner.

Dodgers giants a winner take all game Thursday they start it at 9 eastern time. Game will be over at 1am minimum. No reason not to start at 8 at least, 5 o clock on the west coast still.

I went to pirates Cubs the last Wednesday of the regular season. Meaningless game with 2 teams that suck. I leave during 7th inning stretch, go walk on the Clemente bridge because my wife and son want to, walk to the car, drive home in different county, game ends as I pull onto my street. Took nearly 4 hours to finish.

I haven’t watched a game from start to finish. Literally impossible. Cards/Dodgers was closest I got. Something I do like is the day games so I can listen in the car if I’m traveling. It’s a good sport for live attendance and radio, but awful for TV. There’s no way I’ll watch that game Thursday. It will screw my whole Friday up staying up that late. The NBA starts the finals at that time, but you know it’s over by midnight barring overtime. Most people shut the tv off between 11 and 1130. Every other sport has found ways to make the game go quicker except them.

There should also be some sort of rule about how many times the pitcher can try to pickoff the guy at first. Always annoying when a pitcher throws over there 3-4 times without making a single pitch to the batter
