This should be a plumb job, and Woodson is all you can get? They should have been taking a road trip to the front door of Porter Moser's house with a gigantic bag of money.

I had to look up to confirm that Woodson played at Indiana. Came to IND year after undefeated season. Departed year b4 Indiana won with IThomas.

Two names came to mind. Steve Alford and Dan Dakich. I guess both have fallen out of favor.

Unless it was Isiah Thomas...I'd argue that it's a BAD job for a brother to take over.

there's like 10 different mid-major coaches i'd hire long before i'd ever consider hiring Woodson. and for 6 years no less.

apparently he'll just be a puppet of Thad Matta, but i can't imagine Woodson lasting past 2 seasons. very dark times for IU.

all this means is that the rest of the Big 10 continues to get stronger as the local Indiana kids go elsewhere

he's 63 y/o and has never coached at any level of college, has never recruited before, and the local Indiana high school programs have no relationship with him. even worse, the kids on the recruiting trail will have no idea who he is. recruiting is 90% of the job in college and it's a very involved and complicated process that's incredibly hard to learn and grind through.

it's not so much that he's a "bad coach", but a really bad fit for a program that's not only been on the slide for a long time but also part of a very deep conference.

he's from indiana surely they know who he is. besides he coached in the nba fir several years that alone attracts the attention of recruits. juwan howard at michigan had no college coaching experience either and was never even a head coach anywhere but he seems to be doing alright

he coached my knicks. he has flashes of good runs but is not someone you can depend on to take you to the next upper level.

Well thats why Woodson needs to be the CEO and coach the team, but find dedicated recruiters. Bobby Knight had Joby Wright for many years who got alot of out state black kids that could really play!

Hoosier and IU fan and I'm coming around on the idea a little bit. Kids want to play in the NBA and he knows the NBA. Winning 53 with Atlanta is pretty damn good. In fact their win totals went up every year. Who else has won with Atlanta or the Knicks lately? Woodson > Phil Jackson all day every day with the Knicks.
