Bears | Mitchell Trubisky officially named starter
Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has officially been named the team's starting quarterback by head coach Matt Nagy.
Footballguys view: It's officially official now...and for now. Trubisky is in a make-or-break year and the odds are stacked against him. If he struggles at any time, the team may not hesitate to go to Nick Foles and move on from the painful Trubisky era.

    Tuesday Update

Dolphins | Preston Williams confident in knee
Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams (knee) told reporters Tuesday, Sept. 8, that he feels like his knee is close to 100 percent after suffering a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament 10 months ago, but he knows he's not completely healthy yet.
Footballguys view: Williams looked good for half the season as a rookie in 2019 and then he suffered this knee injury and was done. Now, he's back and not even 12 months removed from the injury. Williams has a playmakers skill set and can flip the field with his speed and ball-tracking ability. He also told reporters he isn't sure if he will be on a snap count to begin the season.

Steelers | James Conner the unquestioned bell cow
Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner was pronounced as the team's 'primary toter' in the backfield by head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday, Sept. 8.'There is no question about who our bell cow is. It's James Conner and he's our primary toter,' Tomlin said.
Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Conner is the lead back and the Steelers will use him as a grinder. When they need a change of pace, expect rookie Anthony McFarland to get some work. Benny Snell and Jaylen Samuels could also get some looks here and there.
    Link to story
    James Conner player page

Browns | Cleveland keeping Kareem Hunt around
Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $13.25 million - including $8.5 million guaranteed - to remain with the team through the end of the 2022 season on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Footballguys view: Hunt was in the final year of his deal but the Browns love what they've seen and want to keep him around. He'll work as a pass-catching option behind starter Nick Chubb. Hunt can be a top running back in the league (and for fantasy football) if he were to get a larger workload. With is current role, Hunt has RB3/flex value for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues.
    Link to story
    Kareem Hunt player page

Buccaneers | Leonard Fournette to see a fair amount of work
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Leonard Fournette will have 'a solid role' in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Bruce Arians.'He's a very bright guy. He picked it up pretty quick today. Obviously he can't do everything, but he'll have a solid role in the plan for the week,' Arians said.

Cardinals | DeAndre Hopkins agrees to big deal
Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins agreed to a two-year extension worth $54.5 million in new money, which will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback ever. He receives $42.75 million at signing

    Jaguars | Mike Glennon promoted
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Mike Glennon was promoted to the active roster Tuesday, Sept. 8. LB Quincy Williams (abdomen) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list. Free-agent CB Sidney Jones (Eagles) was signed to the practice squad.
Footballguys view: Glennon gives the team veteran depth behind starter Garnder Minshew. The team also has rookie sixth-round pick QB Jake Luton on the depth chart.

Football Team | J.D. McKissic listed as starter
Washington Football Team RB J.D. McKissic is listed as the starter on the team's first depth chart.
Footballguys view: It's an interesting placement here and one that could move around quite a bit this season. McKissic is in a backfield with a lot of inexperience (minus Peyton Barber) with rookie Antonio Gibson and second-year pro Bryce Love. We expect that Washington will use a RBBC featuring McKissic as the pass-catching back. Fantasy GMs have lottery ticket picks in Gibson and Love hoping that one of them pays off. McKissic could be a waiver wire addition in deep leagues if he's the lead back and gets more touches in Week 1.
    Link to story
    J.D. McKissic player page

    Dolphins | DeVante Parker returns
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Sept. 8. He was wearing a compression sleeve on his left hamstring area.
Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran wideout here. His injury remains a mystery but head coach Brian Flores has insisted that it's a minor situation. Parker can be a WR3 or deep flex option for Fantasy GMs in Week 1 against the Patriots.
    Link to story
    DeVante Parker player page

Packers | AJ Dillon on third team
Green Bay Packers RB AJ Dillon is listed as a co-third-string back on the offense with RB Tyler Ervin.
Footballguys view: Dillon is a powerful back who can wear down defenses as the games go on. He was drafted by the Packers this year but is beginning his rookie season behind Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.
    Link to story
    Tyler Ervin player page

Packers | Aaron Jones working on deal
Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones said his agent is working on a contract extension with the team.
Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick for the Packers in the 2017 NFL draft, Jones has become one of the best all-around running backs in the league. He's in the final year of his rookie contract and on the books for around $2.1 million. Jones is focusing on football and we expect the Packers to take care of him with a new deal so he doesn't leave in free agency next year.
    Link to story
    Aaron Jones player page

Saints | Alvin Kamara nearing deal
New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is nearing a contract extension with the club Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Footballguys view: Kamara should be one of the highest-paid running backs in the league when this deal is done. Things have seemed contentious over the summer between the two sides but this contract should be done in the near future. Kamara is a RB1 and every-week starter for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Jets | Joe Flacco targeting Week 3 return
New York Jets QB Joe Flacco (neck) is targeting a return in Week 3, a source said Monday, Sept. 7. QB David Fales or Mike White are expected to serve as the backup to QB Sam Darnold until Flacco is ready.
Footballguys view: Flacco did not need to go on the PUP list to begin the season. Instead, he'll be out a couple of weeks and work his way back near Week 3. He's coming back from neck surgery and is only veteran insurance behind Sam Darnold.

    Sam Darnold player page

Jets | Breshad Perriman feeling good
New York Jets WR Breshad Perriman (knee) is 'feeling a lot better,' head coach Adam Gase said Monday, Sept. 7.
Footballguys view: That's good news. Perriman was having some knee soreness and missed plenty of time in training camp because of it. The Jets were being wisely cautious with Perriman as he dealt with this latest knee injury. Perriman finally stayed healthy and had a breakout year with the Buccaneers last year. If healthy, Perriman will be a deep threat for the Jets as a no.2 receiver.

Seahawks | Reinstatement for Josh Gordon uncertain
Seattle Seahawks WR Josh Gordon was recently re-signed, but he continues to serve an indefinite suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Footballguys view: Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, Sept. 7 that he 'can't comment' on when Gordon will be reinstated by the NFL. Gordon has been suspended more times than we can count but things seemed positive about him being reinstated again. We'll see if the league makes a decision around the start of the regular season.
    Link to story
    Josh Gordon player page

Jaguars | James Robinson tops depth chart
Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson sits in the No. 1 tailback spot on the depth chart on the team's official website.
Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs have been scrambling to find out who is going to start for Jacksonville now that Leonard Fournette is playing for the Buccaneers. Ryquell Armstead is on the COVID/Reserve list for the second time this summer and Devine Ozigbo is listed behind Robinson on the first depth chart. Those two will work in tandem for the Jaguars and Chris Thompson will work as the pass-catching back.
    Link to story

Jaguars | Devine Ozigbo scoots up depth chart
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Devine Ozigbo is listed as the second-string running back on the depth chart on the team's official website.
Footballguys view: Ozigbo has good intent as a runner but he did not impress more than James Robinson. The Jaguars listed Robinson as the no.1 back on their initial depth chart. Those two will work in tandem with veteran Chris Thompson as their pass-catching back.
    Link to story
    Devine Ozigbo player page

Cardinals | Kenyan Drake ready to roll in Week1
Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake (lower body) missed more than a week or practice due to an unspecific lower-body injury which had him in a walking boot, and he said Monday, Sept. 7 that he had an illness which cost him a few more days. However, he is expected to be just fine for the Week 1 opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
Footballguys view: Drake is a perfect fit for the Cardinals offense and you saw that immediately last year when he was picked up. Fantasy GMs are looking at Drake as a RB2 with RB1 upside for the 2020 season. He's fine for the starter according to reports and should be considered a starting option even in this tough matchup against the 49ers.

Lions | Adrian Peterson could play in Week 1
Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson could see some touches in the Week 1 opener against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Matt Patricia said 'we'll see' when asked about the possibility.
Footballguys view: Peterson is a seasoned veteran who can soften up defenses. Kerryon Johnson is the starter for the team and Peterson could give him a breather early in the season.

The very next blurb, Smythe. I wouldn't worry about it though, Gesecki will be the receiving tight end. He just got pushed around a bit last year and Smythe is the better blocker.

    Friday Update

Eagles | Jalen Reagor on track to play
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor (shoulder) has been handling an increased workload this week, and head coach Doug Pederson said Friday, Sept. 11, they expect 'some good things' from the rookie. Pederson added they will monitor Reagor's status over the next 48 hours, but he is on track to play in Week 1 on Sunday, in the estimation of one national reporter.

Jets | Denzel Mims expected to miss opener
New York Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) injured his other hamstring in practice Thursday, Sept. 10, after missing most of training camp with a hamstring issue. Head coach Adam Gase said Friday, Sept. 11, that the latest hamstring injury isn't as bad, but added that 'it's not looking good' for Mims to play Sunday in Week 1.

Texans | David Johnson shines in Houston debut
Houston Texans RB David Johnson carried the ball 11 times for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 10. He also caught three passes for 32 yards.
Footballguys view: Johnson looked like his old self on a 19-yard touchdown run showing speed and elusiveness. Anyone who drafted him has to be thrilled at his form and production on a poor night for the Texans offense. His value is way up heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Ravens.
    Link to story
    David Johnson player page

Texans | Deshaun Watson produces late
Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson completed 20 of 32 passes for 253 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT in a 34-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 10. Watson also ran six times for 27 yards and another score.
Footballguys view: Watson ended up doing ok for fantasy teams because of garbage time, but his inability to get the offense on track should worry his fantasy teams and Texans fans alike. He'll face the rough Ravens secondary next week.
    Link to story
    Deshaun Watson player page

Chiefs | Quiet night for Mecole Hardman
Kansas City Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman had one catch for six yards on Thursday, Sept. 10, against the Houston Texans.
Footballguys view: Hardman was still behind Demarcus Robinson in snaps and targets, but Robinson had the dropsies, which bodes well for Hardman's future opportunity. Don't drop him as a kneejerk reaction to this performance.
    Link to story
    Mecole Hardman player page

Chiefs | Travis Kelce finds the end zone
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce had six receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Footballguys view: Kelce was busy early and scored the Chiefs first touchdown to cap a week that made anyone who took him early feel good about their investment.
    Link to story
    Travis Kelce player page

Chiefs | Tyreek Hill scores in opener
Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill hauled in five passes (on six targets) for 46 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 1 win over the Houston Texans.
Footballguys view: Hill wasn't impressive but got a short touchdown to bail out fantasy teams. He'll face Casey Hayward and the Chargers next week.
    Link to story
    Tyreek Hill player page

Chiefs | Sammy Watkins leads KC in receiving
Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins caught seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 10. He was targeted a team-high nine times.
Footballguys view: Watkins was efficient and often open in a great sign for his 2020 value. If you didn't start him this week, you'll likely put him in against the Chargers next week and hope for the best.
    Link to story
    Sammy Watkins player page

Chiefs | Clyde Edwards-Helaire shines in debut
Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed 25 times for 138 yards and a touchdown in a 34-20 win over the Houston Texans in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Edwards-Helaire went 0 for 6 on goal to go carries, which is good news if you like the opportunity, but bad news if the Chiefs turn to Darrel Williams eventually. The rookie didn't get to convert either of his two targets into catches, but a more competitive game should change that. If you took Edwards-Helaire in the first round, you should be thrilled.
    Link to story

Chiefs | Three scores for Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of his 32 pass attempts for 211 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-20 win over the Houston Texans in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Mahomes barely broke a sweat in this one. If Clyde Edwards-Helaire was better on goal line carries, it might have been a bust week for Mahomes in fantasy leagues, but you have to feel good about him based on how easily the Chiefs moved the ball. Next week brings the Chargers, who have given Mahomes a hard time.

Falcons | More TDs for Julio Jones?
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones has led the team in touchdown catches just once in the past five seasons, but offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter plans to create more scoring opportunities for Jones by putting him in space more often. 'I really think for Julio to get more touchdowns, it has to come on either deep throws, or it has to be stuff like slants and intermediate routes where Julio breaks or spins out of a tackle,' Koetter said.

Lions | T.J. Hockenson back at full speed
Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson (ankle) said Thursday, Sept. 10, that he is back at '100 percent' following ankle surgery at the end of the 2019 season.
Footballguys view: Hockenson had expressed some hesitation about his ankle at the beginning of camp, but he is a full go this week and could get a lot of targets with Kenny Golladay ailing and possibly out.

Rams | Full practice for Darrell Henderson

Seahawks | Seattle to go with hot hand at RB?
Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson may be looking at splitting carries a bit more evenly in 2020 with Carlos Hyde, according to comments made by head coach Pete Carroll on Friday, Sept. 11.'Sometimes you go with who's hot. They're going to both play. We'll see what happens when they get out there. If it looks like somebody's got something going on that day, we'll stick with it,' Carroll said.
Footballguys view: Carson is still RB2 material, but if Carlos Hyde gets more work than Rashaad Penny got last year, then he might not have the RB1 weekly ceiling he had last year.

    49ers | Tevin Coleman's Week 1 status in limbo
San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (non-injury) was held out of practice Friday, Sept. 11, due to a pre-existing condition (sickle-cell trait), and head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that it will be up to Coleman if he wants to play in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals if the AQI (Air Quality Index) continues to hover around 150.
Footballguys view: Coleman may not go this weekend, but he wasn't in lineups anyway. If he's out, Raheem Mostert and Jerick McKinnon both become better starts, but the larger story here is make sure this game is on track to get played before setting lineups on Sunday.

Eagles | Questionable tag for Miles Sanders
Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 11, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.
Footballguys view: If Sanders is active, he's probably worth an RB2 start, although his ceiling will be lower with the Eagles likely easing him and missing two, if not three starters on the offensive line. It's not overreacting to bench him if you have a viable RB3.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery to miss Week 1
Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 11, and has been ruled out for Week 1.
Footballguys view: Jeffery is likely out multiple weeks, but should be back within 3-4 games unless the Eagles were too optimistic when they decided to not put him on the PUP list to open the season, which would have cost at least the first six games.

49ers | Deebo Samuel to IR
San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Sept. 12.
Footballguys view: This means Samuel will be out at least the first three weeks of the regular season. The team is going to be without him in Week 1 and rookie first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk is questionable. They've got one of the most banged up WR corps in the NFL.

    Broncos | Courtland Sutton 50-50
Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (shoulder) is truly 50-50 to play in Week 1, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 1. Sanders is progressing well, but the team wants to be sure he's good to go for the long haul, according to sources.

Broncos | Courtland Sutton listed as questionable
Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (shoulder) is listed as questionable on the team's Week 1 injury report.
Footballguys view: Sutton is a game-time decision for Monday night against the Titans. Fantasy GMs need to have other options at the ready. The shoulder injury is considered minor but there's no guarantee that Sutton will play in Week 1. We could see a lot of 2020 first-round pick WR Jerry Jeudy on Monday.

Tom Brady threw 2 interceptions including a pick-6. It's like Jameis Winston never left Tampa.
