78% of workers say their layoff is Temporary

    CNBC

Michelle Meyer, BkofAma head of U.S. economics, called the high number of temporary layoffs a "silver lining"

"With 78% classified as temporarily unemployed, workers should be able to be more seamlessly rehired upon reopening. But time is of the essence," she wrote in a note.

i was furloughed and now we were called back to work. i do think there is some merit to this assuming the business can survive the time closed.

Most hospitality industry workers will experience long-term unemployment. Although restaurants and hotels are opening back up. People will not be returning to them in numbers until either a vaccine is out or 60%+ of the population has been infected. This will alleviate potential concerns for spread and only under those conditions will people feel safe to return to these places in significant numbers.

If there are not as many customers --> the number of employees will be reduced (or maintained at current low levels) to control costs.

A lot of the small/medium sized businesses are going to be gone, and with them the jobs they created. The way the bailouts have gone and the environment that already existed is going to allow further consolidation in many industries with the largest companies gaining even more power and market share the Amazons and Walmarts will get bigger and those that had a small slice in markets those companies are involved in will lose their share to the huge companies and be sold to the huge companies or simply forced out of business. Many fewer than 78% will actually get their jobs back and wages will still be depressed because of the monopoly power the few huge companies wield.

How was this questioned asked? Is it temporary and they plan on working for the same employer? Or is it temporary because they are 25 and probably not able to lay around and do nothing for the rest of their lives? As for me, I'm done with my former employer, we had a skype meeting and was told to go fuk myself, well not really but pretty much so. Once the world gets its senses, I'll be on the market fighting with a shit load of engineers trying to find someone who will like to add another $125K+ to their payrole.
