No crowd will help Favorites or Dogs?

Will empty stadiums offer some sort of betting bias?

I am thinking for March Madness games it might favor the chalk with no crowd to help rev up the underdogs to keep pushing?

What is the effect on a baseball game? Will players be more relaxed and score more?

Golf? Lower scores without the distractions?

    Soccer?

okay so this is a great thread topic first of all

right off the bat I think it will help golfers that have not made a name for themselves... often times you see guys crumble on Saturday/Sunday when they start playing in front of big crowds...

baseball???? hmm probably not impact at all.

    basketball?

I would say you are correct it will probably favor the chalk.

I think it would be like playing at a neutral site where neither team benefits.. Does wipe out home court advantage with no home crowd rooting ya on.. That's for sure!!!

Hit a big game winning 3 at home with no crowd and you will hear crickets is what will happen. ..

I guess we will find out with some really data at least a few dozen games the truth on this once and for all!

my first impression is that there will be less of those momentum big comebacks and runs both ways. also better free throw % which in live betting might help the team in the lead....something to look for..

Opti, my first thought was these teams in MLB that are not playing in their home stadium, so far Mariners but probably more to come, that's gotta favor them IF, IF, they play a team that's never played in that stadium before. I gotta look into this more and look at the M's schedule and any other teams announced. Baseball players often complain about the batters eye in new stadiums or foreign stadiums they've never been to before.

As far as golf, I think it's a non factor. Most golfers grew up playing without crowds.

Baskets and Soccer, I don't think it matters much either, they often play on neutral courts and pitches for tournaments.

NHL, I say it's advantage away team. Nobody getting fired up for powerplays etc.

Great topic! I've been thinking about this stuff all day.

Can consult WNBA players about this.. They surely can tell you what it's like playing with no crowds at games .

No one has any clue what the effect will be thus the whole tournament is unbettable. Hopefully, the cockroaches that made this decision will get coronavirus.

Can the XFL survive with no fans? They are not really in a position to lose the revenue of 20-30K fans at each game.

We'll get a feel for it tomorrow afternoon with the MAC tourney quarterfinals. I'm leaning to it basically being unbettable.

They don't have that many fans showing up at games now and the tickets prices are cheap.. I think the XFL is making most of it's revenue off TV anyways right now.

I would be upset if the league folded because of this.. I actually enjoy watching the XFL almost as much as the NFL at this point. It caught on with me..

Isn't St Louis drawing well? It would be a disadvantage for them.

Wonder if the arena horns will still sound and music will be played like normal thru the game from the booths upstairs at these empty games? The organ guy will he be banned too?

Music during the game like normal will help the players I think..

Yeah, I really could not think of an obvious bias in soccer. Maybe level them a bit.

I forgot all about XFL. Ya this could hurt them bad. St. Louis has the highest attendance in the league and they play in the old Ram's dome. They have so much interest they are gonna open the upper deck for future games like they did for NFL games.

The XFL is operating under a single-entity sports league.. Not like the NFL with individual team owners..

lack of home court advantage (referee bias) is probably the only measurable difference. Won't make a difference in NCAA tournament for the most part, but comes into play for NIT.
