Personally, I find tennis to have the worst bad beats. Unlike basketball, football and the other sports, the matches are drawn out and no point has such an impact as in tennis.

So many times I've had a player win first set with ease and then be up 2 or 3 games 2nd set, only to turn on the "penetrate life" button and lose next 4-6 games straight and 3rd set awfully. Can't fathom the losses I've taken sometimes in tennis but yet its so exciting to watch sometimes.

Too much happens in the last 1-2 minutes.

Senseless fouling, desperate 3-pointers, some which go in and some that don't which lead to even more intentional fouls.

I would have to say football, the way one given play/turnover can totally swing a game and thereby a bet seems much more magnified than almost any other sport. Basketball does indeed have weird things late with excessive fouling and so forth but still usually in basketball one play doesn't tend to basically decide whether or not a particular bet wins or loses, certainly at least not to the extent that it seems that it can in football.

I agree hoops has tilted me before on several occasions. Especially when a team can't make FTs and gives up the lead simply of because of this. If you can't make minimum 60% free throws NCAA 70% NBA, you shouldnt be on team imo.

As someone who mostly bets/picks totals, what % of football games end up with the total # of points being within 7 points of the expected total? I don't know the % but I imagine it's quite high - that is it ends up at a # where one altered play could have changed whether the total went over or under.

In contrast, in basketball, what % of games wind up within 3 points of the expected total? Again, don't know the exact % but surely far far lower than the 7 point question in football. That is, one extra/less score is way less likely to affect the outcome of a total bet on a basketball game than it is in football.

Granted that's oversimplifying things since obviously if you change one specific play in a game, unless it was at the very very end, that can have a ripple effect on what else happened afterward. But in that regard, always feels like football games on average are way "closer" to winning/losing the total than basketball games tend to be.

2nd for me: basketball as described above

3rd: NHL especially totals. 1 or 2 goals headed into 3rd period, only for 3rd period 5+ goals and your under loses. Or your ML team up 3-0 with 10 mins left in 3rd period, other team scores 3 and you lose in OT. Think I have like a 25% win rate in NHL OT. Its that painful.


4th: MLB - as noted above, when shitty 5 ERA relief pitcher comes in 8th inning and score is tied and YOU KNOW you're going to lose and either the coach is drunk or betting against his team

Agree. Breaks are rare in Men's so its somewhat straightforward. My worst beats by far have been in women's tennis. Very, very streaky.

Completely one sided top heavy sport very easy to cap imo. Definitely have no idea how one would say it’s the most bad beat sport, probably just recency bias going on. Hoops is the answer to this

Honorable mention is fighting sports.
Have lost a few where my guy was dominating the fight and walked into a right hand in the final round. Or to make matters worse, win the fight and take the bad beat from the judges (completely stopped betting boxing now because of recent screw jobs)

Definitely hoops....that Rockets game last night. Up 10 with 3 minutes left in regulation, and 7 with a 1 minute and a half left in OT, and lose because Spencer Dinwidde goes off. I would need to a take a couple of days off after that.
