Anyone following MGM lawsuit of victims?

    Very interesting strategy.

MGM Sue's the victims of shooting in a pre emptive suit citing terror laws.

Probably not the best PR move...

I read about this the other day and agree it is not a good PR move. That said, why should they be held accountable for the actions of some nutcase?

Probably not the best legal strategy also.
    Chances
of tactic working favorably for MGM said to be slim.

Procedural perhaps, but from that point of view it elicited litigation from every victim by their own means instead of sitting back and 1 by 1 playing defense or waiting for a CA that maybe only 60-80% of victims would join.

Now they are litigating with 100%

Mostly because he had access to the service elevator.

I agree it is not exactly the best PR move because ignorant people read the headlines "MGM sues victims" and think that MGM is going after the victims of the crime for money, which is not the case.

However, it is a wise move from a legal standpoint. MGM wants a court to rule that they were not responsible for what happened. I cannot overstate how important venue selection is in such lawsuits and by being the ones to file first - instead of waiting to be sued - they get to select venue.

It's an absolute disgrace that MGM even needs a lwayer to deal with this matter.

Liability laws in the country are beyond ridiculous.

When tragedy strikes, all people look for is how they can turn it into their paydays.

I can't blame MGM for what happened. What are they supposed to do? Inspect each hotel guest's luggage? Turn the hotel lobby into the TSA? People would scream their heads off about what a violation of privacy it is if they did such a thing.

"Acts Of Terror" Isn't grounds for a lawsuit?

Don't get me started on this again. So many angles to the Las Vegas thing....

MGM should stop being a dik about everything... regardless if this was an entire plotted business deal to introduce body scanners... or a relevant nut case... MGM has business insurance... pay the families (who lost loved ones) their $$$$$ and get on with life. Stop covering more sh#$ up like "It's not our fault." Yeah... guy just single handedly plotted the biggest act of terror in American History all by his 60+ year old self with no help. GTFO with this nonsense.

Exactly MS! Fuk MGM! And yes they are partly responsible! Had their security been a little more observant of one lunatic bringing in so much so called "luggage" over a period of 4 damn days, they probably could've stopped this asshole. I'll never stay at that fuk'in hotel ever again. I hope the PR over this bullshit "suing of the victims," ruins that corporate shit hole!

I think I now know why they've been bombarding me with emails lately to stay there. Last one offered $33/night for a standard room at MB and $64/night for a standard at Delano.

The Wynn has been using this technology at their entrances for a year or two now.

Last time I was in Vegas I was at Cosmo. I haven't stayed at MB in over 3 years, so they must really be hurting.

I don't think the MGM should be held responsible.. There should be no lawsuits period.. Nothing the MGM could have done to see this coming.. So the guy uses the service elevator, so he had a ton of baggage... There is no red flags to check with that.. He could have been traveling heavy and passing thru...

He had a suite and was gambling in the casino.. He never stood out as a real threat even to security...

THERE SHOULD BE NO LAWSUITS period on either side.. IMO.... If MGM wants to make a good PR move they should compensate all the victims though and not try and sue them..

MGM is not suing the victims in the sense that they are trying to recover something from them. They are just naming them to have the case heard in federal court. So your two posts don't really make sense. They "sued" the victims because the victims sued first and they are simply filing to have the case heard in federal court and are procedurally required to name them as defendants. It's pretty misleading when people say they are suing the victims.

    Not sure you're getting it.

These victims sued MGM. MGM wants to move the case to federal court and to do so they had to name these victims as counter-defendants. No other way.
