    I'm actually pretty heavy on Russia today. Host country calls today, I think. I expect several timely called offsides or no offsides in Russia's favor like the US got back in 1996 or 1994?

    As the dust settles from the first round of group games, Russia have shown that the FIFA rankings can be taken with a pinch of salt. The lowest ranked team of the tournament swept aside Saudi Arabia 5-0 on the opening day, and now face Egypt for the first time as an independent nation since the break-up of the USSR.

    The win last time out ended a seven-game winless streak for the Russians prior to the tournament (D3, L4) and they are very close to securing progression. All they have to do is beat an Egypt side that did well in its own opener, but conceded a late heartbreaking goal.
