Going to be bad for weekend TV ratings if Tiger, Phil, and Rory don't have a good 2nd round.

    Rory - 80
    Tiger - 78
    Phil - 77

    That's what I'm saying.

Just to get under par should make you a champ. British Open style.

But this course is so bad I think they adopted the Local Rule...you can move pebbles and rocks out of your way when in the sand trap.

Why not just clean the trap? Instead, they admit the course is so shitty that there will be rocks to move in the traps and adopted a rule to allow it.

    Unreal.

We think a bit alike; I thought about it too when I saw his name up there but further research tells me he has very little chance of winning.

I don't think we see a 350-1 winner this year giving 65 after round 1.

That's a tough draw for sure.

Agree 100%, but if it's a major, go ahead and get weeds out of the traps too.

    And maybe remove the rocks.

I'm sure you would. Something tells me you're used to losing bets.

I was at Shinnecock yesterday and will be back over the weekend. Also, I've played Shinnecock at least a dozen times. The course is in amazing shape - even by its own lofty standards.

If you're 100% ignorant about Shinnecock Hills GC's earned reputation as a course (and club) then you're 100% ignorant about golf. Period. End of story.

You're either interested in the tournament or not.

Phil and Tiger are done. That ain't news.

Rory is looking at his 3rd straight US Open cut and his performance in majors has fallen off a cliff since he was scooping up majors 3-4 years ago - I don't know why, maybe life is too good to play at cutthroat level?

That said - after the first day you have DJ, #1 player, tied for the lead with a bunch of top players right there keeping a few strokes pace. That's all you can ask for. Poulter, Rose, Stenson, Hoffman ... these guys are great.

If one of your 3 (Rory, Tiger, Phil) can get into the mix - awesome. But 2 of those 3 guys are way past prime and - can't be expected to make moves on the leaderboard.

You tell me which makes for bad TV ratings: Brooks Koepka at -22 winning the US Open at Erin Hills or Dustin Johnson leading the pack at -2 at Shinnecock?

US Open is the best run event in golf - maybe in sports, right up there with the FA Cup. You don't realize this because every time you run your mouth you're basically regurgitating lazy fan observations from Twitter.

Furthermore, your "hey I'm drinking" schtick is as old as the course at Shinnecock Hills. So you got that going for you, which is kind of sad.

Seriously, they made a Local Rule because there are pebbles and rocks in the sand trap. I get it, you deal with the environment the course is created in, but the traps are completely man made.

There's just no excuse, and to have the US Open there? The USGA should have prepared better, don't you think?
