    Brunson Retires

Doyle Brunson gets ovation after final WSOP table

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ble/111174960/

Doyle Brunson has spent over five decades as a professional poker player, has written multiple books on the game and has won 10 World Series of Poker bracelets - including two Main Events. And now he's hanging up his iconic cowboy hat.

    From Poker Central:

"I'm planning on retiring after the summer. My wife is not in very good health, and I will stay with her for the duration of either her life or mine," Brunson said.

Doyle met his wife Louise in 1959 and got married in August 1962, added that he's not only making his final appearance at the World Series of Poker, but he's also saying farewell to his beloved Bobby's Room.

"I'm going to stop playing completely, but while I might change my mind, I don't think that I will. This will be the last time that my wife and I have to spend together, and right now, every day that I leave the house I feel guilty."

"My daughter stays with my wife a lot, and I never play until late anymore these days so I can be with her, and after 57 years of marriage I feel like owe it to my wife to stay with her."

Lol true gambler. Knew this wouldn’t last.

I didn't mean to make such a fuss over my "retirement". I meant probably no more WSOP tournaments. That isn't written in stone however. When they start the mixed games on high stakes poker, I'll be there. Probably not so much cash games but I appreciate all the nice thoughts.

Never heard of a poker player retiring, unless it's another word for death.

It’s another word for broke d2b. Nobody quits the life, they just “retire” until the bankroll is up again.

So he said he was leaving and then two days later he's back?

Sounds like a few SBR posters that we all know.

Brunson was in so much crooked stuff back in the day he could never go broke.
A true Hustler who is labeled as one of the nice guys in poker because he's 100 years old but in all honesty fits the bill of any other broke degen poker player you see today except he was there early at the beginning when you could scam/steal/con and not get caught as easily.
He's just quitting tournaments now because he can't cash in them anymore, not because he's low on funds.
Too much on the brain/body at his age to play 15 hour days at the RIO against 25 year olds. He's drawing dead.
Overrated player, hell of a nice guy, and a legend without a doubt.

poker is different , player pools are larger so it is harder to reach final tables , so you see new faces all the time. Also , now you got stars online, streaming their sessions. Probably not that popular in US as online poker scene is pretty small at the moment

Any truth to the 200% sell-out rumors? Story was that his legend has built up + people wanted to back him.

So much so that he would sell off 200% of himself + tank it. This was b4 hole-cams, so who knows what he was holding? EZ way to turn $10k into $20k.

Never liked the guy. Purely for the assholes that suck out on 10-2 off-suit and then say something like "You just got Doyle'd bruh!" Cost me a Diamond membership at Sands in Bethlehem when I lunged across the table at the prick. Fukk Doyle.

Before twitter became so big this was done by almost all of those guys back in the day.
A lot harder to do now it's tracked better and if you mess up one time your reputation is finished.
Doesn't happen as much as it used to.
Lots of them got caught back then and STILL managed to get backers.
TJ Cloutier (Top 5 biggest pieces of shit ive ever met), Min Ngyuen, couple other asians can't remember them off the top of my head (one moron sold like 130 or 150% of himself in a WPT event and decided to final table it and got like 400k, true story you can probly google it), Eskimo, Matusow etc.
Poker is just a scummy, scummy group, just like sports bettors.
If you're going to be involved in the poker world, the less poker buddies you have the better.

Good info, Benny. Was pretty much conceded that Min's team would cough up chips so he could build a stack during tournament.

That crap happens even in the smaller tournaments at casino's. You get a group of these young guys, who re-raise each other in certain hands to push other players out, then both flip some crazy ass random off-suit crap for a showdown till one guy gets a nice stack. I see it all the time with asian guys. They banned them from speaking anything but English at the tables because of this.

    LOL I remember that
I wanna say it was 2006ish at the Commerce when that first came about.
    Dude was such a dirtball.
Any hand he loses is the dealer's fault like a true Asian degenerate.
He musta fell off the map I haven't heard his name in years.
Probly owed a ton of people and went into hiding like the rest of them.

Standard collusion like that happens every day. Men the Master has been importing Vietnamese immigrants and housing/feeding them for the sole purpose of chip dumping to him in poker tourneys for years. They used to steal high denom chips from small tourneys and give them to Men for the big buyin main events for a while but that was figured out after the fire. Guys a true innovator of the game.

Don’t forget the best part of the story, 8 Vietnamese cooking egg rolls in the hotel room set off the fire alarm Fire Dept evacuated the room and end up finding almost a million in stolen tourney chips

And Men is still heavily involved in the Bicycle Club cash games and tourneys. He’s greased the floormen so well over the years they let him get away with anything he wants. It’s actually a pretty shameful situation and keeps a lot of people away from the Bike.
