College Basketball is going to be small time... Here's how it will look 10 years now.

AAU/Shoe Companies and NBA will start to pay and sign kids/families in some kind of youth nba development league outta junior high.

Which will not allow them to play college.

So the college game, will be made up of true student athletes, who aren't expected to make the NBA...

Its really dirty, i mean AAU reps of nike and adidas are going to be knocking on inner city kids doors in middle school, offering $$$ to family.

Basically a lot of Princeton Offense to come

The money they can offer is not life changing amounts. Too many kids. Risk versus reward will keep college ball alive. How many kids go on to play in the NBA and rake in BIG bucks?

I don't think so. They can identify some potential out of junior high, but it's too early to really know for sure for most. As A4K says, too much risk for the reward. College basketball is not going away. It's already watered down with players coming out early. Only thing that would really change that is if NBA changes the age/eligibility rules.

also look at the background of many of the stars in the league today. its becoming a suburban league anyway. not as many famlies that could be bought for 50k or 100k when they know they have a kid that will make millions.

More likely college kids will make the $150,000 per year that they deserve and the coaches will make $500,000 and it will be bigger than ever.

OK then, more of the same. Too much money for it to get smaller and too much money not to play the players for much longer. It will start at 10K in the not too distant future but once you start paying them they will have to pay them more. Eventually they will pay them what they are worth which is about 100K.

Check the attendance figures for the 1950s. Whites go to games to watch blacks dunk.

NBA is going to 2-year removed from high school requirement. Meaning you can go play college for 2 years, international (Europe, China) ball for 2 years making some decent money if you're good enough, or even D-league making not so decent money. Kids will still have a choice.

But that will make BOTH college and NBA better.

Actually Louisvillekid1 is on to something here. A u23 Nike Basketball league that competes with college? Why not? College isn't for everyone. Play Pro ball then go be the mechanic or carpenter. If the outrage against NCAA making money off kids continues you never know. Of course then the NBA will open the draft up to 16 yr olds so Zion Williamson doesn't miss his rookie contract.

Then they sign with that company, or agent when they go pro. Throwing 100K here, and there isn't shit when you sign the next 100 million dollar man. AAU coaches get paid to funnel kids to a certain school. Nike, or adidas, and they make money off that school too. UK does it the old school way, and just pays with booster money so no paper trail on this one. Same with Duke. Cuse does it too, but we just let the agents give money to kids if they want, and the coaches turn away. It's why we lose so many after one damn year. JB has nothing to do with it, or he wouldn't bitch about them leaving.

I doubt they'll do this, but what you described is basically how they do it in Europe with all sports (basketball and soccer). They do it like that in the Dominican Republic for baseball tho the kids have to be 16 to be professional.

Makes sense on alot of levels

If my child was good enough to be trained as a professional from age 16 or so, I'd much rather have them sign with a shoe company and be trained by them, than go thru college basketball. Tennis does this right now. Boys/Girls age 13 start at Pro Tennis Academies run by agents like IMG and start training to be pros.

More like when the kids are 17. But this is the only clean way out. There is always a financial influence in supply and demand. It's getting old seeing schools go on probation for a solvable problem. It's already at one and done. So you will only be missing the best players for a year anyway. And that's maybe 15 kids? The nba is looking at the success of the summer league and paying for better talent in the g-league to keep players in country. This will shift the college sports to find a way for financial compensation as their billion dollar tv deals may suffer with a slightly inferior product. The fair way is to give players a percentage of their jersey sales. People talk about "well how are you gonna pay the swim team as well...". Like everything else, the market will determine your value, and no one is buying stanford speedos. Nor are they paying billions to broadcast swim meets. The facade of amateurism while schools make billions and coaches make millions annually is on it's last legs.
