Have you ever seen this before?!?!

Dear SBR members, I just came across this Twitter post:
    https://mobile.twitter.com/capjack2000/status/1470253138426875906

Illinois State leading 75-67 with two FT's coming up and they make them both. However, the scoreboard continues with 76-67.

ESPN play-by-play has the first FT by Josiah Strong as missed while it went in. NCAA play-by-play doesn't even mention the first (or second) FT and both sources continue with the wrong 76-67 score.

After these FT's, both teams made 4 points so the game has officially ended in 81-71 while all sources have 80-71. Why is this important? Because the spread was exactly around this number.

Bizanta, there was a similar story from game a few weeks ago. I know it sounds impossible but it happened.

In the game I saw, team made 2 of 2 FT but scoreboard only moved ONE point. Team wound up NOT winning by one pt but going to Overtime...where they they lost.

I've also seen it in NCAA wrestling. Wrestling scoring moves quickly, sometimes people miss it. A few years back, at the NCAA tournament Ian Miller (Kent St) lost a Quarterfinal match that he won b/c the Score-keeper didn't give him 1 pt for an Escape.

Here is the wrestling match I reference. Key sequence is after 8:50

Miller dominated 1st 6min of match. Scorer did not record a Miller escape, so he effectively recorded back-to-back Realbuto takedowns.

This was a Quarterfinal match, so there were too many moving parts. If this was a Final, no way this happens, b/c there are too many eyes on the event.

Here's the Coll Bask game I referenced. So Utah was shorted one pt b/c of Score-keeper Error:

I guess it happened before then hehe. And in both games it had major impact on the outcome while in the Illinois State case at least they still won. For the bettor it could be a major difference as the line was -9.5 / -10 but that wrestler and Utah actually lost the game...

Why even pay players to shave points? I'm sure you can get the scoreboard technician for a heck of a lot cheaper. I'm trying to run a business here!

CBS has the play-by-play also very strange:

    0:40
Josiah Strong misses regular free throw 1 of 2
    0:40
+1 Josiah Strong makes regular free throw 2 of 2 76-67
    0:40
+1 Josiah Strong makes regular free throw 2 of 2 76-67

I had 1 similar case before. ESPN showed 1 free-throw shorted, so my book graded as a loss. I went and contacted ESPN, they fixed the scoreboard, and the book ended up grades my best as a win. Jumped through hoops but happy ending.

    Watch this video:

Klose admits to ref that it went in off his hand. How many guys would ever see that? Fair play, one of the great all-time sportsmen.

I remember that actually. Very sportsmanlike.

Update: Fox Sports adjusted the score: https://www.foxsports.com/college-ba...tab=playbyplay
They didn't fix the play-by-play as the 1st FT is still listed as a miss, the score has been adjusted.

However, CBS, NCAA, ESPN all still h ave 80-71.

He might have gotten shot dead if this was in Medellin...

OP, just last week the scoreboard operator did the same thing in our AAU finals game. While parents thought they were clearly point shaving, I'm fairly certain it was just negligence.

Anyone has information how Pinnacle, BetOnline and other big bookies have handled this match?

    That's a very good question.

If you've ever been in a sportsbook waiting for payment after a game...the clerk normally says "You have to wait five minutes for it to go into the system."

Implication is that it normally requires MULTIPLE CONFIRMATIONS before a score is confirmed as final. Surely, different sites put up incorrect scores.

One thing to think about payouts. When it's paid, it's paid. Any reversal might be EXTRA payouts for the book.

Think about the USC/Utah football game from a few years back. There was a defensive TD on the last play of the game. USC (-) paid out.

Then the CONFERENCE stepped up and reversed the final score. My memory is foggy on details...but the Final score flipped from 9-pt win to 3-pt win.

Not all books paid out. There is sometimes a House rule that posted final is not reversed.

Fox Sports, ESPN and NCAA.com all corrected to 81-71 but that doesn't mean all sportsbooks will act accordingly.
