    Sports Forum Industry

Some very poor numbers across the board for all leading sports forum sites in the last 3 months. Last few weeks have been dismal. Reach ranks and overall traffic down. Contests and perks generate little or no traffic.

    Discuss.

Billy.....nobody wants to discuss the state of the fukkin' online chit-chat room industry.

The fukkin' NHL playoffs & bases are in full swing, pal.

Turn on your fukkin' tv, or even better, go see a game! Lets worry about this nonsense some other time.

Serious topic gents. I have been posting on sports message boards for over 15 years and enjoy it as do most of you, for whatever your reasoning.

Perhaps we can give the site holders some insight as to what we can do to make it better and more relevant.

Go back to making up stories Op. You don't speak for me or anyone else here.

Hopefully we have someone who is intelligent enough to discuss.

Traffic always goes down after the Superbowl, believe it's been like that every year. Lots of posters will be back once football starts up. Plenty of us here for baseball, NBA, and NHL playoffs.

I see that football is and always has been the number one traffic fuel at all forums. It would appear the falloff this year is greater than past.

lack of money movement sites, like a Neteller, and the overall difficulty of online gambling for US players has dampened the boards, less ability to play, less amount of players. ETC

Like i said, JJGOLD needs to chime in here, he is the face of SBR

Traffic is obv based largely on sports seasons.. i.e. football as noted. Traffic here is not bad.. If you think this is bad, you should see the 5 active clowns over at the RX talking about the best method to deposit into easystreet.. as the RX promotes them as an awesome book.

I would drink bleach before posting on the rx..

It's seasonal. There will be one more mini spike when the NBA playoffs start and then another lull. Once the MLB all star game hits in mid July crowds will start to return.

RX and EOG sites performance is almost to a point where they are not longer part of the active landscape. Numbers dictate that it is Covers.com then SBR and then a bunch of also rans.

Weird...what on earth could account for it....I follow the traffic numbers also and it's so weird. Big spike first week in Feb...then tailed off until Mid March...then a small spike in late May early June....then a climb in August.

    So weird.

I saw this thread the other day about the about the history of sbr http://www.sportsbookreview.com/forum/players-ta...eated-sbr.html

SBR john said he started back in the late 1990s-2000 with a one page site and they didn't hire their first employee until 2004. Sbr is light years ahead of these other gambling forums except for the home page which looks alot like covers home page. If they ever really expanded sbr tv and developed into a more mens lifestyle type site/portal with a more broad range of mens -lifestyle affiliate links than just the usual sportsbook links, they would be alot better than askmen ever was.

Of course askmen has done really well, I just wish sbr would expand into different areas like those lifestyle portals like askmen and maxim, etc, people would probably do alot of their shopping here if the links were more prominent and the landing(home) page were better.

I should have prefaced my statement that even taking account of the seasonal numbers, the overall numbers are down.

Being a long time sports forum community participant, i have noticed that forum content has changed over the years. Much less relevant gaming talk, handicapping discussion really down (and low calibre), much more social environment across forums and sub forums. Guys post to be part of something rather than to benefit from something.

Would have to wait until I get back to the office as I do not have a scanner at home. Shows about an 11% dropoff over the last two years. That is for the forum genre and is not site specific. Actually part of a thesis paper I was given to read.

This is year over year stats of how many users logged in. Its the best indicator. At first glance it would seem we have a little growth but not much. Of course this time of year is somewhat statically meaningless.

Really? I have been around awhile and I really dont remember the rx or major wager being a real hot bed of sports intelligentsia back in the day, in fact, most of the same people are still around in some form or another. I just think the problem is the revenue stream from sportsbook affiliate links doesnt seem the most stable over the last few years I would imagine.

There are so many other opportunities for portals, I couldnt imagine in the early days of the rx or any forum you could get pizza, ipads, etc for just posting on a forum. So many types of people would love that outside of just sports gamblers, I even see sbr mentioned more on the 2+2 poker forum. I would love to see some more affiliate links for travel, real estate, etc in costa rica, the ads just need to be more prominent. I rarely look at them.

Does the overall value of one of these sites fluctuate in accordance with monthly traffic. Would the book value be less in the summer than during football season?

If this was just a raw, no frills, handicapping forum, things would probably be more on point--as far as handicapping discussion etc. Obviously, I am not a Pro and so it's not really fair to lobby others to support this, but I wonder what the place would be like without points. What if there wasn't free anything and SBR was just a players' advocate site with a few extras? Or, what if to be a member of the site, everyone had to chalk up a monthly subscription and the points system stayed? Just some thoughts.
