how late can books cancel your bet?

say you get a chance for an arb, and you make it like 1 minute before the game starts. Can a book cancel a bet on a game in progress, or limit the bet after it's been accepted? Or do they have to honor that bet and limit your account afterwards?

hahaha, I just looked up your thread, and searched BetFred and they said you provided them with a fraudulent ID. Dude, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of: Complaining about getting ripped off when you were trying to rip someone else off.

I had a fun one happen at a Nevada book. I placed my bet, got my ticket and walked away from the window. About 10 minutes later the ticket writer comes running up to me an says he is glad he found me. Evidently after I left the window and walked away when the next customer walked up he accidentally canceled my ticket. When the ticket won if I had brought it in to be paid I would have been SOL.

franky, it says you sent them fraudulent documents. i dont feel sorry for you, it sounds like they had a legit reason to cancel your bet.

Getting back to the original topic, it depends exactly on the nature of the arb. If it was a legitimate price that they had put out there, or were too slow to react to the market move then they have no grounds to void the bet even a minute before the official start time of the event. (though have seen complaints in recent months here of some books using the "bad line" excuse to unfairly void bets in this circumstance)

If the arb is as a result of an obvious palpable error (reversed lines, adding an extra "0" to the end etc) then they will usually still void these according to whatever their rules say. In an ideal world, this voiding should always happen before the event starts, but again this isnt always the case judging by the occasionaly complaint about this on these forums.

Once the bet has been accepted, then again the book has no grounds to adjust the stake of the bet as they see fit, but they can (and in many cases do) limit your stakes for future bets or close your account.

Live betting is a tricky one - in theory any bet placed on a live market should stand, but mistakes do happen and even in-play the linesman will occasionally make a mistake and reverse the lines accidently or add an extra "0" and usually in these cases they will refer to their "mistakes" rule above and void the bet anyway. Once again, in theory this should happen almost straight after the bet is struck when the mistake is noticed, but again doesnt always appear to be the case.

Voiding bets due to fraud is an entirely different kettle of fish altogether !

That depends on the ethics of the book in question

I believe that most of them play it fair. I've only ever sacked two books for unethical behaviour.

It happens even after a game, due to bad line...
the books seem to be good at it; i once got a very good line on obscure event on bwin (not offered anywhere else), but they voided it couple hours after i jumped in.

In a normal world they wouldn't cancel a bet at all!

Jeff I have seen it when the match or game is almost over. More than likely you'll be on the winning side of it when you get the bet canceled. Once in a while you'll be fortunate to get it voided while being on the wrong side. Chances are it is because the sportsbook posted an incorrect line.
