USA Today's article on 5dimes

I usually read another national newspaper, but I pick up the weekend edition of USA Today for the sports page. I worked late tonight so I just read the article condoning Sportsbet/5dimes practice of allowing wagering on high school football. Needless to say, a front page (sports section) article on 5dimes is unwanted attention. Especially when wagering sites are being shut down lately. Is there a post somewhere on this topic? I searched but found nothing.

Yea there was another thread somewhere here yesterday. Meh, the government already knows about 5dimes, they'll shut it down whenever they want like they did with stars/full tilt.

I think the President...and Government in general...have more important things on their minds over the next couple of years....not sure that 5 Dimes is even on the radar screen. With everything from elections to Greece going broke, and guns in Mexican gangs to unemployment at 9%...this is low level interest at best.

You would think they would be busy eventing new rules and figuring out lies to get out of hot water with their blatant corruption regarding fast & furious and solandra scandals.

You act like the Government is one efficient rationale entinty. All you need is a a politician or two with a bug in his ass who has too much power because he heads some unconstitutional sub committee designed to get nothing accomplished but make people feel good about themselves or an assbag fed in a position of authority. Then, we have another fuckin headache.

The government may "have more important things on its mind," but chances are, trying to do anything about those things will just make the situation worse. So, someone will make themselves feel better playing the moral police.

You could be right....but with budget cuts, jobs bills, Winter break, etc. most of those idiots have other things more important than playing moral police...like saving their own asses and positions in the Government.

That's the article.

There alot of comments about more pressing matters. I can not; however, dismiss the bad press. The global economy was crashing and the US Justice Dept found the time to shut down several sites.

As far as betting high school football, it is not that big of a deal. It is fun though if you have two rival schools that you know well. I am sure Alabama residents on this board wouldn't mind placing a wager when or if Hoover plays Prattville. This type of game is just one of many big rivals across the US.

I do think; however, it would be wise to drop the high school wagering on these sites if it means the survival of 5dimes.

I am concerned, but not worried.

First, I think that the main influence of high school players when it comes to money stems from agents, boosters or perhaps the universities themselves. Just look back at the Cam Newton fiasco.

Second, the sites that were shut down were primarly focused at online poker. These sites advertised on national television or hosted televised poker tourneys.

Third, the sites are not truley shut down. It is just that US players are no longer allowed to play or access the site. Even when the Justice Dept. barred US players the ability to play, they did allow all US players to withdraw their money.

To summarize, online poker is considered as illicit as sports gambling. Online poker; however, has been far more overt than sports betting. The USJD is more interested in the websites hosting these services or acting as the financial middleman, not the average joe placing the bet. I could go on and on into the legal technicalites and differences between online wagering laws but that would be more of a paper rather than a post.

Isnt the limit on high school football something like 100 bucks? 5dimes should just discontinue if they dont want the attention. Cant imagine there making too much on 100 dollar limits.

tony is more than willing to take the high school games off the board, rather than put up with this unfavorable publicity. govt. officials won't shut them down since they all have accounts there. believe me, there are no processor problems with these accounts either.

High school Admins are the ones that are morally bankrupt. Holding the nation hostage so we can pay their fukkin pensions. If every school teacher, cop, judge, and fireman dies at 50 the country will be much better off.

very true, these undeserving pension hacks are draining the economy. judges appointed by some crooked politican can hide in their chambers for 10 years and get 100k pension. cops make so much on details (totall unjustified and overpaid) don't deserver more than a minimal pension. teachers deserve no pension for babysitting all day. firefighters who really don't work that hard deserve something for risking their lives maybe twice in their career. anyway, the money will soon run out and they will get them reduced or eliminated.
