I will never be a fan of any professional athlete/team ever again!

Lockout after lockout after lockout, fuckin players unions in every sport somehow want the already ridiculously overpaid players salaries doubled, unfuckinreal

Players are unwilling to throw a ball or dunk a ball for 30 mil a year + 70 mil endorsements and saying "We will not give in" bullshit in every interview when the sob just plays a game for a living and makes 100 mil a year for it, like the average Joe Blow who just got fired from his 30k a year job is gonna say "Yea Lebron dont let them take advantage of your dunking skills for just 100 mil/year, make em pay twice that, dont be there slave!"

Pro sports was at its greatest in the 60s when average MLB players had to get jobs in the offseason to pay the bills and golf tourneys paid 20k to win not 2.5 million

Anyone who is a fan of pro sports is a sucker, these guys dont give two shits about their sport they are strictly in it for the cash, if you gotta beg them to play for a 100 million a year then they can go **** themselves

The older we get, the less we care about the guys wearing the uniforms and the men who pay them. To paraphrase Jim: My favorite team is the one that's making me money.

I want Frank McCourt OUT of LA and after that I'll be truly happy. Any league with a set of owners who need protection from themselves, I want no part of.

I hear your sentiments, but the REAL issue is, we buy their licensed merchandise. WE watch ESPN, sorry, if you're watching anything but ESPN news occasionally, you're doing it wrong - further enhancing player hype. We also watch the games. Viewership=ratings which=money.

It sucks, but, to be frank, watch soccer on the web and punt that. You help NO ONE but yourself. As far as I'm concerned, I only go to minor league ball games now (they are fun) and preseason events. No way in hell I'm buying tickets to any regular season game. I can get laid for less coin, just sayin. I also refuse to buy licensed merchandise, no matter what kind of sports nut I am.

It's not us causing the problem, to be honest, we're punters and avid avid sports fans. It's your average duder or over-paid douche that pays 400+$ for a seat at the new Yankee Stadium.
From what I understand, both NY stadiums are easy to get tickets to, after their first year... No one wants to pay more than what it cost to get taco bell for a month just to watch a bunch of duders that don't give a crap until the playoffs.

I stopped goin to watch the NBA live at the Garden about 15 years ago. The game NEVER started until maybe the first 5 or so minutes, and even then, it was pedestrian play until the final minutes of the game.

Fans built this problem. If you don't like it, don't watch ESPN. Stop going to games. Stop watching games at home and pirate the feed off the 'net. Stop buying their merchandise.
I refuse on principle to buy authenticated merchandise. A 'knock off' jersey is made in a sweatshop and the markup is ridiculous... You're paying for something that costs 2 bux to make, maybe, but pay a dick dickload more.

To be honest, I've seen enough labor unrest in my almost 40 years to just say 'f it', but I love the top competition and the big games. It's probably why I only watch soccer and the NFL. Just about every game is worth something.

Can't think about the money. Have to root for the uniform. Plus are these guys really doing anything anybody else wouldn't You may say you wouldn't but we're not in that situation. Your playing career is a very small part in your life, if they do it right they can set up their families for generations. I guess I blame the owners, especially in the NFL.

so if the players dont deserve the money you think the owners shud be making another 100 million a year? An asset is only as valuable as the market and people make it. Since people are willing to pay to buy all the merchandise and pay assasnine prices to go watch these teams and players it creates a large stream of revenue that has to be distributed throughout the league. Yes there may be a union lockout as to how that money is disbursed; but its the consumer that creates that money. So before you blame the players for wanting more money blame the public for making them so valuable.

    Great post, very well said

Im not a fan of soccer so I dont have any idea what the format for their games is but I completely agree that the NFL is the ideal format for professional sports, with only 16 games in the regular season every game is fuckin critical, I mean you have to win 9 (rarely 8 or 10) games to earn a spot in the playoffs then its win or go home 1 game playoffs. Basically you've got 7 losses for the entire season before you're done so each game is huge, not to mention almost any team can beat any other team on a particular day, just makes for incredibly entertaining games.

In baseball ya got 162 motherfuckin games, that's fukin insane when you realize the season is only 6 months long so only about 20 days during the entire 6 months is the team not playing, that just takes the fan out of the game (unless you've got money on it) bc you're not even watching anything that matters until September if your team is close. Same way with NBA they play over 80 games and then 16 fuckin teams out of 30 make the playoffs, basically if you dont make the playoffs you're just a team that is complete trash, teams like the Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Spurs, Mavericks etc dont even need to play the regular season as they are so far and away better than the rest that theres no way they dont finish in the top 16 so who the **** even cares to watch their regular season games, oh boy we lost the game tonight the Lakers might not make the playoffs

The owners are LOSING money on most NBA teams, why do you think they are so quick to lockout the players. Of course the owners of successful teams should turn a profit when the team is a financial success, you dont just give away all your profits to labor when you run a business or what would be the fuckin point in investing it. I dont like the billionaire owners any more than you do but what is the purpose of running a business if you pay the labor an absolute fortune for nothing and they still arent satisfied, what do the players want to raise the ticket prices even MORE than they already are for future NFL games? Its only overpaid white collar workers and business owners as it is that buy NFL tickets as the season ticket licenses (PSLs) are fukin thousands of dollars just for the "right" to pay thousands for season tickets each year and the food is so high that no one without money to burn would even think about eating at the game, just professional sports in general has become an absolute joke, the NBA wants the AVERAGE player salary to be over 7 MILLION per year, that's bench players, guys who play 5 mins a game etc all averaged together cost 7 million each, for teams like the Bucks, Bobcats, etc how can they possibly afford that?

I havent looked any of this up but in a nutshell you are absolutely correct. You dont run a business to loose money but the economy falling hard caused the NBA lockout. Im most likely speaking out of my ass here cause i didnt look anything up but......Whenever the CBA was signed the last time it gave the players 52% of Total Revenue that the league made. This is how they effectively come up with the salary cap. They estimate how much they will make and come up with a salary cap based upon these projections. So players are grandfathered into there 20 million dollars contracts. All of a sudden profits drop drastically. in the Real world this is when employers will lay off workers/consolidate/lower prices etc....The owners still have the obligation to pay the players the money there guaranteed. Thats why there lsoing money and its not like the players got greedy all of a sudden and teams started losing money because they got more greed. A makeover now is needed but you cant blame the players for wanting to retain the amount of money there making now.

This time it's the owners who are locking the players out. No way in hell I can take my family to see the Vikings or Wild play. As long as fans are willing to spend the high prices to attend games nothing is going to change. Took my family to see a Twins game and it easily cost close to $300 for seats in the outfield and food/drinks at the game. My favorite team is the team I have money on that night.

Root for the uniform and NEVER for the individual. That can only leave you disappointed.

This is one reason why I hope there's no NFL season. Everyone think the world will come to an end; get a life, people.

I cannot agree with this, NFL is the only pro sport worth watching. For one you have to give credit to guys who spend all day getting tackled at full speed, that helmet into the kneecaps by some beast that works out 16 hours a day everytime you catch the ball gets old fast and so the avg career of a RB is only like 4 fuckin years.

That being the case its understandable that the guy wants to make the max for those 4 years since he has to live the rest of his life limping around off of that but NBA, MLB etc where the worst injury you can get is a hangnail its fuckin insane for the players to expect more than 52% of the revenues, its amazing they ever got that good of a deal to begin with, paying the players any more than that and most teams would lose money every year

Yes, I agree that it is very frusterating, I am a fan of a team here and there but it does piss me off they they wont just shut up and play... If I was at my job and put up a stink that I was not getting paid more for the next upcoming year then they woudl fire me... Unfortunatly they are backed by a union and they have the ability to **** around with every little detail.

I just want them to play some ******* ball!

I have some favorite players, my favoritism is based on their level of play in their specific sport. I also factor in their sportsman ship, attitude, and sense of humor.

I have some teams I've always liked more than others. Mostly teams that belong to the cities in which I grew up.

But as a gambler, there are no "favorites"

Has nothing to do with jealousy, I dont mind if they make 100 mil or 200 mil (why would I not be jealous of a 100 mil but be jealous of 200 mil lol) but fuckin hell when you have to lockout and end the season bc these fuckin morons wont dribble a basketball for 100 mil and force them to cancel the sport just bc the owners cant possibly pay your ridiculous demands as a fan it just makes me want to puke, the fact that multiple sports are doing this at the same time makes it even more disgusting

This lockout stuff is sooo sickening. Why can't the players be happy with what they are getting. They are living everyone's childhood dream, to be playing proball of somekind and making damn good money too. Plus here they get endorsements, and all these other lil incentives, and special treatment. Personally no player should be making more than 5 million a year, and the league should pay for all medical expenses endoured in a players career. They say they need to make more money to pay for this and that, and to provide for their families future for years to come. You wanna make your families future better, how about they all throw in a couple hundread bucks per player and help pay this economy deficit. Not only will things be better for your family, but fans too.
