Legends: Weekly Betting Report for June 13-19, 2011
By B. Sharps / Head Linesman

Hello players! We've entered our first MLB only week of the summer from the 13th to the 19th of June; let's see how things went for the bettors and the book. Starting on Monday the players won with Pittsburgh Pirates -17, Cincinnati Reds +10, and the Los Angeles Angels -30 while the books countered with Houston Astros +22, Chicago Cubs -10, and Cleveland Indians +65 to win a small decision for the day.

On to Tuesday where the players jumped out ahead on Philadelphia Phillies -200 + run line, San Francisco Giants +15, New York Yankees -144, Detroit Tigers with Mr. Verlander -80 (we will revisit him on Sunday, as he tortured the books this week), and the Los Angeles Angels -45. The house managed to win with the Chicago Cubs +35 and Kansas City Royals +60 but it was still a good day for the bettors.

Wednesday saw the sports gamblers score with Colorado Rockies -55 and Philadelphia Phillies -200 (but the house won the run line), Pittsburgh Pirates even, San Francisco Giants +03 and Beantown's finest, Boston Red Sox -35. The house came back with the New York Mets +28, Minnesota Twins +36 and Seattle Mariners -20 to wash out the day overall and have the players clinging to a small lead for the week.

Thursday the players correctly tabbed Philadelphia Phillies run line, Detroit Tigers -68, and Oakland A's -43; the house picked up some ground on the Chicago Cubs +20, New York Yankees +15 as a dog at home, and Boston Red Sox +14 to draw even for the week with a small winner for the day.

Friday in the interleague diamond results we saw the players grab wins on Cleveland Indians -49, Los Angeles Angels +20, Tampa Bay Rays -40, Boston Red Sox -29, and Texas Rangers -10. The house battled back with its own baseball wins with Toronto Blue Jays +40, Kansas City Royals +60, and Oakland Athletics +43 to retake the lead they established Monday back from the players.

Saturday in the bases, the bettors won with Houston Astros +18, Washington Nationals -50, Cleveland Indians -45, Saint Louis Cardinals -68, and the Chicago White Sox -19. The house countered with Toronto Blue Jays again +18, New York Mets +26, and Philadelphia Phillies +25 to wash out the day and head into Sunday up a peanut for the week.

Sunday the players were as hot as the young Irishman golfer Rory McIlroy who won his first major title with an 8 shot victory in the US Open. Amazingly he won start to finish carding 65-66-68-69 to beat the previous record by 4 strokes. In MLB betting, players won with Cleveland Indians -65, Baltimore Orioles +38, Boston Red Sox -24, Tampa Bay Rays -210 (the house did win the run line), Saint Louis Cardinals -210, and the two killers – the Detroit Tigers -40 and the New York Yankees -90 – to have a huge day and win the week. It seemed like everyone had a Justin Verlander wager and rightfully so as he was his usual outstanding self again. Some sports writers are pegging him 'Detroit's Best since Barry Sanders'; big Ndamukong Suh may have something to say about that with his dominating rookie season on the Detroit D-line but he is still a young star in the making. Verlander, however, looks to be a Cy Young winner and maybe even the American League MVP this year with his dominating performances the first three months of the season. The New York Yankee game was icing on the cake and plugged in the remaining parlays to lock up the week. The golf betting wasn’t a big money maker one way or the other; like him or not, Tiger creates action for the books but from a fan’s standpoint watching Rory play a flawless 4 rounds can hopefully reinvigorate people’s interest in the next Major now with or without Tiger but, of course, hopefully with.

Good luck players! Talk to you next week!
