Justin Fields facing sobering ‘backup’ reality as Bears trade market dries up
    Erich Richter ]Published March 12, 2024, 6:30 p.m. ET

It’s not looking good for Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears.[/COLOR]
After weeks of toying with potential destinations, Fields’ options appear to be drying up as ESPNs Adam Schefter stated on “First Take” on Tuesday.

The teams that are looking at him would be looking at him as a backup,” Schefter said.

He once seemed destined to end up in Atlanta, but the Falcons opted to move on and snag Kirk Cousins on a massive contract in free agency
]Schefter also noted that there was a connection to the Steelers and Raiders, each of whom decided they were better off with a different player to compete for the starting quarterback slot.

“It doesn’t look like there is a starting job out there at this particular moment,” Schefter continued.
There was a chance that the Bears would decide to hold on to Fields and elect to start the season with both him and presumed No. 1 draft choice Caleb Williams.
Schefter similarly reported ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl that the “Bears have talked about the idea, as unlikely as it seems, of carrying both quarterbacks.”

Experts had predicted the Steelers would trade a second-round pick for Fields, but that cost seems too exorbitant for Pittsburgh’s blood.

Instead, they opted to bring in Russell Wilson on the league minimum contract, with the Broncos stuck with the remaining tab for the MVP-winning quarterback

I think Justin Fields is like Baker Mayfield in that people are too quick to malign the guy and wanna put a tombstone on his career. I don't think he's maxed out his potential and can become a consistently good NFL starting quarterback.

    Ya I agree.

I hope he stays in Chicago. I always liked the Bears from the Walter Payton days. I wonder how good he would be with a good team surrounding him. They have a ton of salary cap room and if they made the right deals, they could make the playoffs.

He will probably start in Chicago this season again. Bears should trade Williams for a big haul. He might be great but the Bears are a team that will not suit him.

Needs to play in a system that maximizes his running ability. That is the only thing he is good at

The teams that needed a QB have one, or have a high draft pick. I'm surprised he hasn't been traded already, it doesn't look good right now.

    Seems so

They could still trade the pick and target Maye or Daniels (which they should IMO)

Why are the Steelers trading for all these QBs? They don't have any other needs?
