Should The NFL Change OT Rules?

I think it should be each team gets the ball once

Of course, the current rule is ridiculous.

I like it the way it is. each team does get the ball if the defense doesnt let the team score a td. I like the fact that both sides of the ball come into play. its to decide a winner after playing for 60 minutes so if u want to win better not give up more than a fg. if u let a team score a td they deserve to win and not u.

Nope. Keep it the way it is. The Defense is also a part of the team. They only need to stop the other team from scoring a TD in order to give their Offense a shot. If they can't do that, too bad.

The NFL does OT better than college football.

The only change I might be persuaded to be in favor of is play the entire 10 minutes (or increase it to 15 minutes). Like they do in soccer. No sudden death. Especially in the playoffs.

I have always liked the idea of playing the entire time. I would make it like the regular season OT though of 10 minutes 2 timeouts and a 2 minute warning.

I don't like the 10 minute quarter. You could have a +20.5 point dog lose. But each team should get a chance to answer. Go to sudden death after 2 scores.

Of course it needs to be changed. Can’t let a coin flips decide these things. Both defenses were dead. Whoever won coin flips wins the game and that sucks. Both teams get the ball.

They did after the Vikes/ Nola game.

Removed the FG only option (after a ridiculous 3rd &15 PI call)

Pretty dumb meme. Even if that were true…. Better than a coin flip deciding it.

I like it this way, most exciting way to end it either way. you let the other team get a ball after a TD and now you get 4 downs for free to get the first down, first team did not have that advantage. and college rules from 25 are horrifical stupid just a gimmick like shootouts in NHL regular season are.

I bet they make it each team gets a chance no matter what next year. Twice in 4 years a coin flip decided a playoff game.

Any rule is fair as long as its the same for both teams. I dont like the current system and have never liked the NFL overtime format. They are going to change, it maybe not next year. but its coming, Ever what change thay do make their want be anymore ties in regular season

Yes, change it. Both teams should get a possession or just play an extra 15 minute quarter.

before the OT rules was that any team that scored any points first won. Now it's a touchdown or a safely first score that ends it without the other team having a shot on Offense. I still haven't heard a better idea on how to do OT differently except mine in #4.

Maybe instead of a coin toss to start OT have each team kick 50 yard FGs until someone misses to determine who gets the ball first.

Pros hit 50 today like they did 40 just a few years ago make them kick 55 or 60

That would work fine but keep in mind the NFL dont want then playing a whole 5th quarter . Be more likely to stay 10 or maybe 7.5. Injuries being the big factor

That's exactly right, so make KC's defense go out there gassed and try to stop Josh Allen the same way that Buffalo's gassed defense had to try and stop Mahomes.

What if the KC kick returner fumbled the OT kick-off and the Bills recovered the ball at the Chief's 20 and then Josh Allen trotted out his this offense and ran the ball once for no gain and then the Bills brought in their kicker and he kicked a 38-yard FG to win the game? Should the Chiefs have to get a chance to kick a FG or have Mahomes get the ball with his offense?

That one's easy... Game over, Bills win.

Both teams had their shot and one turned it over. Fair play.

Just like offense and defense, special teams are also part of the team.

Cowherd just said in a playoff game if there is an overtime the road team should have first choice to kick or receive.

a coin flip didnt decide the game, the kc offense vs the bills defense decided it. which is why I disagree with the many people Ive saw last night all over utube saying this was the best game theyve ever seen, lack of defense. I cant call a game great when there's not much defense in it, but the casuals love that stuff.
