NFL Player News - Week of 6/3/19

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

DET - RB C.J. Anderson sees Detroit as perfect fit

    Source: MLive.com - Nate Atkins

Detroit Lions RB C.J. Anderson said he believes Detroit is a perfect fit for him because of the success offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has had with running backs in the past.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions will want to run the ball as much as any team in the league. Anderson showed last year that he can still get it done, and if the Lions line gels, there will be some redraft value for Anderson, and of course Kerryon Johnson injury upside. Anderson's presence in Detroit will likely lower Johnson's season-long and weekly ceiling, although he had no effect on Christian McCaffrey's value in Carolina.

SF - RB Tevin Coleman set for 1,000 yards?

    Source: NFL.com - Bucky Brooks

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman's 'pass-catching prowess' should put him at the top of the depth chart, in the opinion of Bucky Brooks of NFL.com, and Brooks believes Coleman can be a 1,000-yard rusher in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman is the healthiest back and probably the best pass catcher among the 49ers quartet, and he also has the best touchdown scoring track record. He's the most valuable back for fantasy, and as long as the positive buzz continues, his value will rise. He's still modestly priced for a proven back in a good offense.

NE - WR Demaryius Thomas could be PUP candidate

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

New England Patriots WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) could start the 2019 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of his Achilles tendon injury, in the opinion of The Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The contract the Patriots gave Thomas far from guaranteed a roster spot, but if he can recover, he could start and be relevant in fantasy leagues. His progress will be important to monitor when calculating the first-year value of #32 overall pick N'keal Harry.

BUF - Dawson Knox turning heads

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - John Murphy

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox has impressed his teammates with his speed and athleticism during OTAs, according to John Murphy of BuffaloBills.com, and QB Josh Allen praised Knox for how quickly he has picked up the playbook.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Knox was one of the most athletic tight ends in the draft but fell to late third round because of injuries and playing with three NFL prospects at wide receiver at Ole Miss. The Bills signed Tyler Kroft in free agency but he broke his foot in OTAs, giving Knox an opportunity to play a much larger role in the offense in his rookie year if he continues to impress.

Blurb said Coleman is the "healthiest", which he is, so he will probably end up with the most touches of all the SF backs.

    Tuesday Update

CLE - WR Odell Beckham with team

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. reported to the team Monday, June 3, for the start of the mandatory minicamp this week, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. The work is mandatory so Beckham is going to show up. He attended one voluntary workout with the team during OTAs then decided to workout on his own. Beckham's return will greatly improve the targets QB Baker Mayfield gets to throw to. In OTAs, Beckham was missing and Jarvis Landry was out with an undisclosed injury.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz sharp in spring practices

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is 'locked in potentially to a return to MVP form,' according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Head coach Doug Pederson echoed similar sentiments with reporters recently as well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nobody will question his talent, but Wentz has to stay healthy this year in order to play up to his potential. He's only played a full 16-game season once in the NFL, and that was during his rookie season in 2016. Since then, Wentz has battled various injuries and missed time. The Eagles offense features a ton of weapons, so Wentz should have no problem getting the ball into playmaker's hands. He's QB9 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

PIT - Pittsburgh hoping to spread the wealth

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is the 'obvious primary option' in the passing game, but the team believes it will have at least nine viable pass-catching options, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. TE Vance McDonald is 'poised for an expanded role,' while WR Donte Moncriefis being asked to learn all three receiver positions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs know that Smith-Schuster is going to be a stud WR1 in 2019, but behind him there is nothing but potential breakout players and question marks. We'll be monitoring these battles at the Steelers WR position closely in training camp. Smith-Schuster is going off the board at WR6 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. The other Steelers receivers currently being drafted include James Washington (WR46, 10.06) and Donte Moncrief (WR59, 13.12). In a high-powered Steelers passing attack, these are players to follow to and through training camp and the preseason.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson reports to team

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson reported to the team Monday, June 3, for the start of the mandatory minicamp this week, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson doesn't want to get fined, but he does want to get traded, and everyone knew he was going to show up when the work was mandatory. We'll see if the team keeps him around as the change-of-pace back behind starter Nick Chubb. When Kareem Hunt returns from his 8-game suspension then Johnson's snaps/touches will get seriously cut into.

NE - Lead back role up for grabs?

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots RBs Sony Michel and Damien Harris are competing for lead-back duties with James White locked into his role and Rex Burkhead likely viewed as a jack-of-all-trades, change-of-pace runner, according to Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots always have a collection of backs and there is one they usually lean on more than others. That back in 2019 is likely going to be Sony Michel. We'll see how this battle shakes out in training camp. We love Harris as a dynasty prospect but Michel is more explosive and has a year of pro experience under his belt.

NE - WR Phillip Dorsett in line to start?

Source: NBC Sports Boston - Phil Perry

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett 'seems like a logical fit' for the No. 3 receiver role in 2019, according to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch this closely in training camp. The Patriots could use Dorsett's speed to take the top off the defense while Julian Edelman works the underneath routes and rookie N'Keal Harry showcases his run-after-the-catch ability. We'll see in camp if Demaryius Thomas can even make the team as he returns from an Achilles' injury, and Dontrelle Inman should push Dorsett for the No. 3 job.

WAS - Bryce Love taking his time

    Source: Redskins.com - Kyle Stackpole

Washington Redskins RB Bryce Love (knee) said his main focus is on individual drills during spring workouts as he recovers from knee surgery. 'With what I've got, you've got to kind of be slow with it,' Love said. 'Make sure you do it right, make sure you're 100 percent before you're ready to go.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are waiting anxiously to see if Love can return to form. Two years ago at Stanford, Love looked like a lock to be a first-round pick. Then a knee injury knocked his career off track and Washington was able to scoop him up in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He's a dynamic runner who can make defenders look silly in the open field. Love is buried on the depth chart at this time, but we love taking a chance on that natural talent in dynasty formats.

PHI - Miles Sanders still sidelined

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, June 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be news when Sanders actually participates as he's missed all of OTAs with what they called a minor hamstring injury. Sanders has talent and can work as the change-of-pace/receiving back in a RBBC with Jordan Howard in 2019.

LAC - LAC signs Fred Trevillion

    Source: Chargers.com

Undrafted free-agent WR Fred Trevillion (San Diego State) signed with the Los Angeles Chargers Monday, June 3. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived WR Trevion Thompson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trevillion actually began his college career with the Aztecs as a defensive back. He switched to wide receiver when he transferred to Southwest Mississippi Community College. He came back to the Aztecs in 2017 and was a solid player for them and a deep threat (FBS-best 27.2 yards per catch on 22 catches in 2018). Trevillion can work as a wide receiver at 6'2" 185 pounds and has the speed to be a return man as well.

PHI - WR Mack Hollins should be ready for camp

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mack Hollins (sports hernia) is reportedly 'progressing well,' and head coach Doug Pederson recently said he expects Hollins to be able to practice at the start of training camp in late July - nearly 18 months after undergoing sports hernia surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Hollins game does have promise because of his size/speed combination. The recovery from this injury has taken way too long based on standard recovery time, but it will be good to see Hollins back out there. He's a deep threat who could struggle for snaps behind DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor.

    Wednesday Update

NE - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins let go

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New England Patriots TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was released Tuesday, June 4. Seferian-Jenkins reportedly wants to 'step away for a month' due to personal issues.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots are now really thin at the tight end position. Ben Watson is suspended for the first four games of the season, and that leaves former Broncos tight end Matt LaCosse as their top option. We'll see if the team makes a move here.

NYJ - Le'Veon Bell reports to minicamp

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell reported to the team's facility Monday, June 3, ahead of the team's voluntary minicamp start on Tuesday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell and new head coach Adam Gase might have a thing or two to talk about after rumors came out that Gase was cool to the idea of adding Bell in free agency. No matter what the two really think of each other, Bell and Gase could work well together. Bell should be the centerpiece of the Jets offense, being featured as both a runner and receiver. He's a top-10 fantasy pick and Bell has a current ADP of RB7 (1.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

LAR - LAR want RB Todd Gurley to be comfortable

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley may look to lose some weight in order to reduce some of the stress on his knee, and head coach Sean McVay said Gurley can do what he wants so he can feel comfortable with his knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs want to be comfortable with Gurley, and they are not right now. The Rams are unlikely to continue using Gurley as a true bellcow back. He's a late first-round pick in most fantasy drafts right now, and Gurley is likely to split time in the backfield this season. Rookie Darrell Henderson is a player we're excited to see in the preseason. The Rams could use Henderson and Malcolm Brown a bit more in 2019 to give Gurley a breather.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders ahead of schedule

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (Achilles) could return sooner than people think, according to head coach Vic Fangio on Tuesday, June 4. Fangio said his prediction wasn't based on any medical update.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders played just the first 12 games of the 2018 season before being placed on injured reserve. He's been seen at Broncos OTAs running in a straight line but has yet to make cuts at full speed. At this point, it seems like Sanders should be good for the start of the regular season.

WAS - QB Alex Smith could return sooner than expected?

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith (knee) is still wearing the external fixator he's been sporting on his right leg since last year's severe break, but head coach Jay Gruden confirmed Tuesday, June 4, that Smith is 'recovering nicely' from his injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Most thought Smith would never play again after the horrific leg injury he suffered last year. We'll see if he can return for Washington someday. Gruden reportedly also told Tom Pelissero of NFL Media that Smith will return sooner than most people think.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson reiterates trade demand

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson reiterated his demand to be traded as he spoke to reporters following a mandatory minicamp practice Tuesday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is not holding back. He's showed up to mandatory minicamp but still wants to find a new home. Johnson is the backup to Nick Chubb and valuable pass-catching asset out of the backfield. However, with Kareem Hunt on the roster there is not much work available for Johnson....after Hunt returns from his 8-game suspension of course. We'll see if the Browns end up finding a trade partner for Johnson before the start of the regular season.

IND - QB Andrew Luck still battling calf strain

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck was not participating in OTA workouts Tuesday, June 4, as he begins a third straight week on the sideline with a calf strain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The calf strain is seen as a minor injury. We think the Colts are wisely being cautious with their superstar quarterback. There is no reason to think Luck's status for training camp is a concern.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson in fine form

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson participated in the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 4, and looks to be in 'pretty good shape,' according to a national reporter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson proved last year that he can still get it done on the ground, recording his eighth 1,000-yard season in 2018. This season, Derrius Guice is healthy for Washington and could push Peterson for snaps and carries. Peterson has a current ADP of RB49 (11.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold working on chemistry with Bell

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold said Tuesday, June 4, it'll take time to form chemistry with new RB Bell. 'I don't think there's necessarily a certain time period that you can put on it,' Darnold said. 'It's just kind of when we click, we click. ... I think, me and (Bell), we get along well. So, that's kind of the first step in building that relationship. It's good to kind of go on the same page with him and just see how he kind of runs routes and how he runs out there. I haven't seen him really run and it was good to kind of see him run some routes and throw the ball to him a little bit.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Makes sense, and a good move for the young quarterback. Bell is going to be the focal point of the offense, and Darnold is going to get to make a lot of plays handing off and throwing to him. Darnold added that he wants to get some offensive players together for workouts ahead of training camp later this summer.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed misses workouts

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) did not participate in the team's minicamp practice Tuesday, June 4, and was spotted in the injury-rehab area.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It would be news if Reed was healthy and fully participating. Reed has talent but he is oft-injured and difficult to trust as anything more than a TE2 for Fantasy GMs. He has a current ADP of TE19 (14.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - Mo Alie-Cox taking No. 1 reps

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox (6-foot-5, 267 pounds) took first-team reps at mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 4. He drew praise while filling in for Jack Doyle (hip) and Eric Ebron(groin). 'Watching him grow is like watching your son become something special,' Ebron said. 'He's gonna play such a huge role this year.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've always had an appreciation for Alie-Cox in deep dynasty formats. He never played college football and was instead a college basketball player for VCU. Undrafted in 2017, Alie-Cox has been mostly on the Colts practice squad. He did appear in nine games last season, catching seven passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

NE - Damien Harris inks rookie deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots rookie RB Damien Harris signed a four-year, $3.6 million contract Tuesday, June 4. The deal includes an $886,319 signing bonus. Harris, a third-round pick of the Patriots, was the last member of the team's rookie class to be signed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love Harris in dynasty formats. He'll compete for a spot in the pecking order behind starter Sony Michel, although there are some who say he could push for the starting job as a rookie. Harris is a natural runner who is capable of playing all three downs.

WAS - WR Paul Richardson doing individual drills

    Source: Redskins.com - Jake King-Schreifels & Kyle Stackpole

Washington Redskins WR Paul Richardson (shoulder) was in full uniform at the team's minicamp session Tuesday, June 4, but he was limited to individual workouts. The veteran wideout stood to the side during 7-on-7 drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson is a fast player with some upside but he's fought the injury bug dating back to his days in college at Colorado. He only made it through seven games last season and caught only 20 passes. Richardson will try to get out there and compete for a spot in the pecking order when healthy. He could perhaps put up WR3 numbers if healthy and starting for Washington in 2019.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny in great shape

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has drawn raves for his conditioning this offseason, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the second-year back here. He's been working hard to prove that he can be a featured player for the Seahawks. They'll use Penny and Chris Carson in a RBBC this season. Penny has a current ADP of RB36 (8.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DET - Detroit could make use of three tight ends

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TEs Jesse James (6-foot-7, 261 pounds), T.J. Hockenson (6-foot-5, 251), Michael Roberts (6-foot-5, 265) and Logan Thomas (6-foot-6, 250) all possess the ability to detach from the line of scrimmage and create mismatches, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Birkett also notes he wouldn't be surprised if the Lions play with three tight ends on the field at times - even outside goal-line or short-yardage situations.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for all these tight ends but bad news for Fantasy GMs. It's a bit of a cluster at the position. We love Hockenson's upside and potential but he's going to have to work in and try to emerge from a TEBC as a rookie.

NFL - WR Leonte Carroo receives four-game ban

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent WR Leonte Carroo (Dolphins) was suspended for the first four games of the 2019 season for an undisclosed violation Tuesday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It doesn't really matter as Carroo had gotten little to no interest on the open market. A third-round pick for the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft, Caroo was a bust with only 12 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.

NE - TE Matt LaCosse in line to start opener?

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots TE Matt LaCosse is 'a pretty smooth athlete ... and can serve as a viable target down the middle of the field,' according to the Boston Herald's Kevin Duffy, who adds that 'all signs point' to LaCosse starting Week 1 with Benjamin Watson serving a four-game suspension and Austin Seferian-Jenkins no longer with the team as he deals with personal issues.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaCosse came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2015 with the New York Giants. He's spent the last two seasons with the Broncos and is a big-bodied receiver. He had 24 catches for 250 yards and one touchdown in 2018. LaCosse is in line for a big role unless the Patriots add some help via trade or free agency.

NYG - No practice for TE Evan Engram

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants TE Evan Engram (unspecified) did not practice Tuesday, June 4. Head coach Pat Shurmur said Engram was 'just a little sore.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Engram is just getting some rest here. He should continue to be a big part of the Giants passing attack. If the team made the switch to rookie QB Daniel Jones at some time this year, Engram should be a favorite as he gets open over the middle and presents a big target. Engram has a current ADP of TE7 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Thursday Update

NE - Rumors Of TE Rob Gronkowski Returning

Source: Mike Freeman - Bleacher Report

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski recently squashed any talk of his returning to the Patriots.

"Whatever I say, it doesn't matter. It will always be crazy out there, but you can put them to rest," Gronkowski said after getting a haircut for at One Mission Buzz Off for Kids at Gillette Stadium.

In his latest 10-Point Stance offering on Bleacher Report, Mike Freeman says you can count on Gronk returning during the 2019 season:

"Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski made a public appearance recently and said he was done with football. What I can tell you is few people, including sources on the Patriots, believe that.

"The belief is that once the season gets going, and Gronkowski starts missing football, he will rejoin the team. It's not just a hunch, sources say; you can count on it."

Let's be clear. At this point, this is just Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report saying this. Gronkowski says it's not happening.

But clearly, the Patriots can use help at TE. Ben Watson is suspended for the first four games of the season and Austin Seferian-Jenkins was released on Tuesday. Per Boston.cbslocal.com, New England currently has Watson, Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson, Andrew Beck and Ryan Izzo making up their tight end depth chart.

Stay tuned as you can be sure there will be more talk and speculation on this report.

IND - QB Andrew Luck may be ready for minicamp

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (calf) may be able to participate in the minicamp next week, but head coach Frank Reich said the team will not be worried if Luck misses those practices as well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This calf injury is seen as minor. Don't worry about Luck's participation or lack thereof.

WAS - QB Alex Smith injury update

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith (leg) will need to wear the external fixator on his right leg for at least another month, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gruden has alluded to the fact that Smith could return sooner than expected. While that's possible, nobody should be counting on that. Washington will have Case Keenum compete with 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins for the starting job in training camp. If/when Smith returns, it might be just as the No. 3 quarterback.

ATL - WR Julio Jones expected at minicamp

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to participate in minicamp next week, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Extension talks with Jones are going well, but no deal is done yet. When the work is mandatory, Jones will be there. He was absent from voluntary workouts earlier this offseason.

DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay on track for camp

Source: The Athletic - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (wrist) should be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lindsay should be ready for the start of camp, but don't be surprised if the Broncos ease him back into action. They're playing in the Hall of Fame Game and have five preseason games this year. There's no need to rush the 2018 Pro Bowl running back. Royce Freeman has looked outstanding in OTAs and mandatory minicamp. We should see Freeman cut into Lindsay's touches a bit this season.

SEA - Drumbeat continues for WR Jaron Brown

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks WR Jaron Brown has enjoyed an 'unbelievable' offseason, according to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who echoed earlier comments from head coach Pete Carroll that Brown could have a larger role this season.'(Brown) did so much of the dirty work for us last year that ... we kind of forgot that he's a really established receiver and he's looked dynamic out here,' Schottenheimer said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what we all should be listening for at this point in the offseason; drumbeats. It's something that has continued in the conversation/reporting about Jaron Brown. Any former Clemson receiver in the league we will keep tabs on, and we've had our eyes on Brown in dynasty formats since he got into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Last year in his first season with Seattle, Brown had just 14 catches for 166 yards but five of those grabs were for touchdowns. We'll see if he can continue to develop and be more than a red-zone threat this season.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson to have important role?

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Andrew Gribble

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson is expected to play a 'significant' role in 2019, according to comments made by head coach Freddie Kitchens to Andrew Gribble of the team's website.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson would have a big role if the team doesn't trade him away like he wants. Ever since they added Kareem Hunt, Johnson has been looking to get out. No team has shown much interest and the Browns might be discouraged at that and don't want to just give him away. If he stays with the Browns, Johnson has at least 'what the heck' flex appeal in PPR leagues...that is until Hunt returns from his 8-game suspension. Stay tuned.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard misses practice

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (wrist) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 5, because of a wrist injury, but head coach Pat Shurmur said Shepard will be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like a non-issue here. With Odell Beckham gone, Shepard will have the best opportunity of his career to emerge as a No. 1 receiver for the Giants. Shepard has a current ADP of WR40 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - WR Brice Butler should be fine

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Brice Butler (leg) left practice early Tuesday, June 4, because of a leg injury, but head coach Brian Flores said Butler will be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butler may be fine but he needs to stay on the field if he wants to make the team. With the additions this offseason, the Dolphins are packed at the position. Butler is likely a fifth or sixth receiver if he makes the team.

BUF - WR Cole Beasley should be ready for camp

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (core) is on schedule in his recovery and should be ready for the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are just being cautious here. Signed to a four-year, $29 million deal this offseason, Beasley is the team's slot receiver in 2019.

CIN - Ryan Finley not impressing

Source: The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Ryan Finley 'looks bad' in practice, in the opinion of beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. 'There's just no way around it,' Dehner writes. 'It's still early, but not so early that we can't begin to wonder what is going on.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals picked up Finley in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft. During his college career at NC State, Finley did not show well under duress. His set up time in the pocket was a bit longer than desired and he tends to wind up when throwing longer passes. Finley is a project who is nowhere near seeing the field in the pros. Looks like he could stick as the No. 3 quarterback for the Bengals behind starter Andy Dalton and backup Jeff Driskel. We're actually a bit more interested in undrafted rookie Jake Dolegala (Central Connecticut State) than we are Finley.

BAL - Marquise Brown agrees to deal

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens first-round pick WR Marquise Brown has agreed to a four-year contract Wednesday, June 5. Financial terms weren't disclosed, and the deal includes an option for a fifth year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is one of the most electric players with the rock in his hand. During his college career at Oklahoma, Brown frequently made would-be defenders look silly in the open field with his quickness and speed. That's going to be his role with the Ravens. Brown can become a favorite target of QB Lamar Jackson, especially because he can take any short pass and turn it into a long gain. The rookie is recovering from Lisfranc surgery he had in February but there have been no known setbacks and he should be ready for the start of training camp.

SF - Deebo Samuel too heavy?

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel needs to drop some weight in order to function more effectively out of the slot, according to WR coach Wes Welker.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie from South Carolina is listed on the team's official website at 214 pounds. He was listed around 210 pounds during his days in college. Samuel is a bully with the rock and wins with strength and run-after-the-catch ability. He's known as a hyper-competitive player and if he needs to drop a few lbs then he should be able to do that no problem. We're excited about him in dynasty formats. The rookie has a current ADP of WR56 (12.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Friday Update

NE - RB Sony Michel's absence puzzling

    Source: WEEI.com - Ryan Hannable

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (unknown) has missed all three days of the team's minicamp this week with no explanation from the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation as Michel should be the top back for the Patriots in 2019, although he is going to face competition from rookie Damien Harris. One beat reporter believes the team is simply managing the workload for Michel, who has had a history of knee issues dating back through his time at Georgia.

NE - QB Tom Brady hoping for few more seasons

    Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady said 'I hope I can play that long,' when asked Thursday, June 6, is he still wants to play until he's 45.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady stated he wanted to play until age 45 a while ago...and well, nobody should be doubting him. The team is still in a Super Bowl window even with Brady showing a few signs of slowing down. Brady is currently going off the board at QB16 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) missed the three-day minicamp with a tweaked hamstring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It is at least a positive sign that Evans was seen jogging off to the side of the practice field with trainers. Evans is the primary target in the Bucs passing game, a fantasy favorite and a no-brainer WR1 in 2019. He's currently WR8 (2.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker showing out

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has been the best player in camp the last five weeks. If he played like this in games consistently, he would be a Pro Bowler, in the opinion of beat writer Barry Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A first-round pick out of Louisville in the 2015 NFL draft, Parker has never truly played up to his potential. We've heard great things about him in the offseason before (see 2018) and nothing has come to fruition fully. Parker was expected to be cut by the team but instead signed a two-year extension worth $13 million maximum. In yet another 'prove it' year, we'll see if things finally sync with Parker.

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon will be at minicamp

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon said he plans to participate in the minicamp next week. Gordon also said his agent has started contract extension talks with the Chargers, but no deal is imminent.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is in the final year of his rookie contract, and he's on the books for around $5.6 million. Earlier this offseason, the word was Gordon was waiting for Le'Veon Bell to get his new contract. That happened with the Jets, with Bell signing a four-year, $52.5 million deal with $35 million guaranteed. We'll see if Gordon's new deal approaches those numbers. We don't see the Chargers playing hardball too much with Gordon and expect a deal to get done in good time.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon back at practice

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (undisclosed) 'flashed his lateral movement' during organized team activities Thursday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the veteran back here. However, he's still behind Mark Ingram, Justice Hill, and Gus Edwards on the depth chart. We'll see if he can keep flashing his talent in practice and work his way into some role -- if he makes the team -- in 2019.

BAL - Miles Boykin gets in limited session

Baltimore Ravens WR Miles Boykin (hamstring) was able to practice on a limited basis Thursday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boykin is a speed demon, so hamstring ailments really impact his game. The rookie from Notre Dame has the size (6'4" 220 pounds) to be at least a red-zone threat in 2019. He could win the No. 2 wide receiver job for the Ravens this season.

GB - WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling having good spring

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Green Bay Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling has enjoyed a 'fantastic spring and really stepped up as a guy who can be an every-down player,' according to QB Aaron Rodgers via ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Do not forget about Valdes-Scantling. The Packers offense is still going to be a high-powered passing attack, and they'll need another big weapon other than Davante Adams. They have a nice young group of young receivers, including Valdes-Scantling, that will compete to establish a pecking order behind Adams in training camp.

WAS - Terry McLaurin signs on dotted line

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins third-round WR Terry McLaurin (Ohio State) signed his four-year rookie contract Thursday, June 6. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McLaurin is a rookie wide receiver we are looking forward to seeing in the pros. He's got the ability to beat press off the line of scrimmage and is strong at the point of the catch. McLaurin is not quick initially but he does have build up speed and does a good job of tracking passes. He's likely the No. 4 wide receiver on the depth chart in 2019.

GB - WR Davante Adams to push 200 targets?

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams finished second in the league behind Julio Jones (170) with 169 targets last season. If QB Aaron Rodgers has his way in 2019, Adams will be even more involved.'I'd like to throw to Davante more. He's that open. We've got to keep finding ways to get him the ball. 'I think Marquez (Valdes-Scantling) has had a fantastic spring and really stepped up as a guy who can be an every-down player, and then I expect a big bounce-back year from Jimmy (Graham). He's healthy, he's feeling good. This offense I think fits him and his body type, but I'm not going to shy away from throwing the ball to Davante,' Rodgers told ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Don't be shy when it comes to picking Adams in the first round of any fantasy draft -- even with a top-5 pick. Adams is a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers and is in line to go over 100 catches again this season.

BAL - TE Hayden Hurst a no-go on Thursday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst (hamstring) was held out of organized team activities Thursday, June 6, for precautionary reasons after tweaking a hamstring, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst has a ton of talent but these injuries are starting to be a concern. He was banged up as a rookie and only played in 12 games, catching just 13 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown. The 2018 first-round pick needs to stay healthy and prove that he's a better option than fellow second-year tight end Mark Andrews.

WAS - RB Samaje Perine making waves this spring

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine was considered the 'most impressive back this spring' by head coach Jay Gruden, according to ESPN's John Keim.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perine has never played up to his potential in the NFL. He's now buried on the depth chart behind Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice (at least). Perine is a power back only but could struggle to make the 53-man roster in Washington. Perhaps the team is trying to drum up some trade interest for the third-year pro.

CLE - WR Antonio Callaway aiming high

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway has set goals of 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns for his second pro season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Callaway has been pushed down the depth chart when the Browns traded for Odell Beckham Jr. That's going to make it tough for him to reach his loft goals as the No. 3 receiver behind Beckham and Jarvis Landry. As a rookie in 2018, Callaway had 43 catches for 586 yards and five touchdowns. It might be difficult to best those numbers in 2019.

DET - WR Jermaine Kearse headed to Lions

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jermaine Kearse (Jets) agreed to a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions Thursday, June 6, according to a source. Kearse received a one-year, $1.35 million deal with $350,000 guaranteed. The deal has a maximum value of $2.3 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions get a solid veteran who part of their new staff knows well. Kearse spent five seasons with new Lions OC Darrell Bevell during their time in Seattle. He gives the team better depth behind Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola.

CHI - Riley Ridley unlikely to play much

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Riley Ridley is unlikely to play much as a rookie, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, who writes that Ridley's best-case scenario for 2019 is likely a 'small role in a rotation at wide receiver.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley is probably the fifth wide receiver on the Bears depth chart at this time. That means he won't be playing much if at all as a rookie in 2019. Ridley, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia, is a physical possession receiver who has the strength to rip away contested catches. He's nuanced as a route runner and can get separation with savvy because he's not the fastest or quickest out there. We'll monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

HOU - Kahale Warring under contract

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans TE Kahale Warring signed his rookie contract on Wednesday, June 5. The third-round pick was the final member of the Texans' 2019 draft class to sign.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on the athletic Aztec tight end now that he's in the pros. Warring, a third-round pick out of San Diego State, is only a few years into his football career. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school but only spent one year as a prep on the gridiron. Warring is a project, but he has the tools to be a quality starter in the NFL one day. He's big, physical and athletic enough to make big plays from the tight end position. Warring is a player we will watch closely in dynasty formats.

    Saturday Update

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell back with NYJ

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Friday, June 7. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Powell should be the #2 back, and it's not great news for Le'Veon Bell, but probably not bad news either. We still have a track record of unpredictable backfield usage from Jets coach Adam Gase, so this development adds another element that could frustrate us during the season if he is anything more than a few touch a game player.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz signed a four-year contract extension with the Eagles Thursday, June 6, that will run through the 2024 season. It's a four-year, $128 million extension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With everything added up, Wentz now has a six-year, $154 million contract with over $107 million in guarantees. The Eagles clearly aren't concerned about the injury woes that have hampered Wentz over the last two seasons. He's healthy now, and the Eagles hope with this investment that he looks like a perennial Pro Bowl quarterback and leader of the franchise.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henderson is one of the hottest names in fantasy right now and for good reason. There is nothing positive around Todd Gurley's knee and Henderson should get a large opportunity with Gurley's workload cut back this year. He could turn a lot of the big runs CJ Anderson had last year down the stretch into touchdowns and be an instant hit even with a fully functional Gurley.

IND - Lofty goal for RB Nyheim Hines

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines said he wants to reach '1,000 all-purpose yards' in 2019.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not a terribly outlandish goal for the young back. Hines is in a cramped Colts backfield, but his skill set as a runner and receiver is not duplicated by any other back on the depth chart. He had over 700 all-purpose yards last year, so an increase of 300 yards over the course of the season isn't that much. He's currently going off the board at RB48 (11.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley (foot) sat out practice Thursday, June 6, with a sore foot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

BAL - Gus Edwards says role not changing

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens RB Gus Edwards said his role in the offense has not changed even though the team added RBs Mark Ingram and Justice Hill this offseason. He said he has been working with the first-team offense during practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good and all, but Edwards role has to change once the games count. He's unlikely to beat out Mark Ingram for the top spot in the Ravens backfield. Edwards has fantasy value as a volume runner but without a lot of carries (and in a cramped backfield) there's just not much there for him in 2019 unless someone ahead of him on the depth chart gets hurt.

Free-agent PK Matt Bryant (Falcons) likely will not be an option for the Chicago Bears since he has not handled kickoff duties since 2008 and has not kicked for a cold-weather outdoor team since 2003, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery should have the chance to earn a solid role in the offense during his rookie season, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Montgomery will be part of a three-man committee at running back. If he can decisively outplay Tarik Cohen or Mike Davis, he might earn a larger role, but for now his ADP might be a little aggressive, assuming the Bears stick with this plan all year.

WAS - WR Trey Quinn injured

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins WR Trey Quinn (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, June 6, because of a hamstring injury, but head coach Jay Gruden said Quinn should be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Quinn is in line to be a top target as the starting slot receiver for Washington this year. Hopefully this will be a short-term issue. If it lingers into camp and the preseason, he won't be nearly as good of a PPR late-round flyer.

IND - WR Deon Cain a few months away from full health

Source: CBS 4 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts WR Deon Cain (knee) has yet to be cleared to practice but may be ready for the start of training camp, although general manager Chris Ballard told reporters Friday, June 7, that 'it might be early November' before Cain fully regains his playmaking form.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cain was building a lot of momentum before his injury last year and should make the team as the fourth or fifth receiver this year, although Devin Funchess could temporarily be an obstacle to playing time for him. He's still a strong dynasty hold.

NYG - Daniel Jones already making push to start?

    Source: BleacherReport.com - Mike Tanier

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones reportedly outplayed Eli Manning during the team's recent minicamp, and it wasn't really close, in the opinion of Bleacher Report's Mike Tanier, who stated Jones was 'sharper, more accurate and more willing and able to challenge the defense with difficult downfield throws.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants are irrationally committed to Manning, but once Jones superior play, even at this early point in his career, becomes apparent, they might have to make the rational move. Jones starting won't be great for the Giants fantasy prospects, but it will still likely be better than Manning taking the field.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny slim and trim

Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has reportedly dropped 15 pounds and is being meant toward by Hall of Famer and fellow San Diego State alum Marshall Faulk.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chris Carson has been out with a knee issue, so Penny will get a lot of chances before training camp to impress the staff and push for more snaps and touches this season. His ADP is modest for a first-round pick on a team that loves to run the ball.

OAK - TE Luke Willson showing off hands

Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders TE Luke Willson has impressed with his receiving skills during spring practices, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Willson is a good receiver, we just haven't seen as much as we could have during his pro career. He's been in the league since 2013 and his career high in catches is only 22 back in 2014. The Raiders let Jared Cook move on in free agency, so they are looking for a new starting tight end. Willson will be in the mix.

OAK - Paul Butler working with starters

Source: The Athletic - Ted Nguyen

Oakland Raiders TE Paul Butler has been working with the first-team offense during spring practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butler was undrafted in 2018 out of California University of Pennsylvania. He participated in the Raiders 2018 rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and eventually earned a spot on their practice squad. Butler was signed to the active roster at the end of the 2018 season, but he did not play a down as a rookie. The Raiders let Jared Cook go in free agency, and they are trying to find their next starting tight end. Butler must be doing something to impress since he's working with the first team...we'll monitor his progress in training camp and the preseason.

SEA - Gary Jennings back on the field

Source: Sports Radio KJR - Curtis Crabtree

Seattle Seahawks WR Gary Jennings (hamstring) participated in practice on a limited basis Thursday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jennings is a big and swift possession receiver the Seahawks picked up in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft. We'll see how he mixes into the revamped WR corps in Seattle. Jennings could be the No. 3 receiver behind Tyler Lockett and fellow rookie D.K. Metcalf.

BAL - Marquise Brown out until camp

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown (foot) will not participate in practice until training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That was the plan with the rookie and there's nothing to change that. Brown, the team's 2019 first-round pick, had Lisfranc surgery back in February and was always likely to be ready only when training camp begins. He's on schedule to do that, and there are no known setbacks.

JAX - Ryquell Armstead injury update

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Phillip Heilman

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars RB Ryquell Armstead (hamstring) suffered a slight hamstring injury during practice Tuesday, June 5, but likely will be sidelined until training camp, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick out of Temple in the 2019 NFL draft, Armstead is a chain-moving running back who strikes a defense with great determination and heart. Armstead is not much of a receiving threat and makes his keep by grinding out tough yards between the tackles with instinct and power. He's competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Leonard Fournette and may win the primary backup job if he looks better than veteran Alfred Blue. It's an important spot for Fantasy GMs to monitor as Fournette gets banged up quite a bit. We'll see if Armstead can get healthy and impress in training camp.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz signs extension

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com - Dave Spadaro

Its going to be interesting how this contract affects what the cowboys pay Dak .

He is going to want more money than carson .

I know they are saying Dak looks really good right now, but I just don’t feel he will ever be a top 10 QB.

They sign him to a big deal, it will cripple their franchise.

    Sunday Update

HOU - WR DeAndre Hopkins should be ready for camp

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (ankle) has been recovering from an ankle injury this offseason but should be ready for the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopkins fought through injuries last season but is expected to be 100 percent healthy for Week 1. He's a no-brainer WR1 and an option to be a top-5 pick in fantasy drafts of any format. His current ADP is WR2 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DAL - QB Dak Prescott not close in extension talks

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has been talking to the Cowboys about a contract extension, but the two sides are not close at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prescott is not worried about the negotiations and knows something will get done. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, reports have indicated the Cowboys have no problem paying him around $30 million annually. They may not be close at this point, but things have a way of getting done quickly when both sides feel there is a deadline. That might be the start of training camp or the start of the regular season in Prescott's case.

KC - TE Travis Kelce to sit out mini-camp

Source: The Kansas City Star - Blair Kerkhoff

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (ankle) is unlikely to participate in the team's mandatory mini-camp next week, according to head coach Andy Reid, who indicated Kelce should be back for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelce is recovering from ankle surgery that he had back in March. It was called a 'clean up' procedure and he was always likely to miss all offseason work. The plan was for him to be back by training camp.

CAR - QB Cam Newton to do plenty of throwing

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) will throw in all quarterback drills during the team's upcoming mandatory minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Newton had begun throwing a regulation size football. This is another great sign for Newton's recovery. They'll put him through a bunch of work in minicamp and get him ready for training camp. Newton has stated that he's not going to change his playing style, and with a ton of weapons around him, he could post QB1 numbers once again in 2019. He finished as the No. 14 fantasy QB in 2018 and is currently going off the board around QB12.

PIT - Big role for WR Donte Moncrief?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Donte Moncrief said he has 'the potential to make a big impact' in the passing game and believes the receiving group can be 'electric' in 2019.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers (and Fantasy GMs) are looking for their Antonio Brown replacement in 2019. JuJu Smith-Schuster will do his thing as the No. 1 receiver, but behind him there is a hole from Brown being traded away to the Raiders. We'll see if James Washington or Moncrief or rookie Deiontae Johnson emerges as a viable option behind Smith-Schuster in the WR corps.

MIA - WR Albert Wilson missed entire offseason

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (hip) did not participate in any offseason workouts or minicamps because he is still recovering from a hip injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson made it through seven games last year for the Dolphins. This hip injury was not supposed to keep him out of offseason work. Now, it has, and there seems to be some problem in his recovery. We'll have to see if the veteran will be ready for training camp later this summer.

CIN - WR Alex Erickson making plays

    Source: Bengals.com - Michael LaPlaca

Cincinnati Bengals WR Alex Erickson has been a 'reliable presence' in the passing game during spring practices, according to Michael LaPlaca of Bengals.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Erickson is the No. 4 receiver for the Bengals and has been working for a larger role over the last few years. In 2018, Erickson had 20 catches for 167 yards and worked as a kick returner and punt returner. He should be in line for a similar type of role in 2019.
