NFL Player News - Week of 6/26/17

CLE - DeShone Kizer could start Week 1

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer has a chance to be the Week 1 starter if he can perform well during training camp practices and preseason games, in the opinion of The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not outlandish to predict at this point of the year. Kizer was drafted in the second round with the idea that he could potentially develop into a starting quarterback. He's mobile and has a big arm, but Kizer had plenty of work to do when it comes to decision making and accuracy. The Browns have revamped their offensive line, they have a strong rushing attack and there are plenty of options to throw to. Kizer is competing with Cody Kessler and Brock Osweiler (for now) for the starting job.

TB - QB Jameis Winston destined for a big leap in 2017?

Source: Bonnie Watt - BucsWire, USA Today

Bonnie Watt, from Bucs Wire/USA Today, believes quarterback Jameis Winston is destined to make a big leap in 2017. Winston has thrown for over 4,000 yards in each of the last two years, the first quarterback in NFL history to do so. The Bucs added quality weapons to the passing game this offseason, and the passing game could be incredibly healthy this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Winston could post MVP-type numbers in 2017. He's that good, and the Bucs certainly have a formidable group of weapons around him. From a fantasy perspective, Winston is a QB1 sitting at QB11 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins to be limited to open camp

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is unlikely to be ready for a full workload when training camp begins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Watkins had surgery to repair his foot back in January. He hasn't played a full season in two years, and the Bills are wise to ease him into action. The team didn't pick up his fifth-year option, and Watkins has millions of reasons to play up to his amazing potential in a contract year.

HOU - Deshaun Watson won't be limited in Texans offense

Source: Jared Dubin - CBS Sports

Jared Dubin, of CBSSports.com, reports Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien says rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson won't be limited in the offense. "We put a lot on his plate during the spring, and he handled it very well," O'Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle. "He made mistakes, and he corrected them. You don't see him make the same mistake twice. He can do a lot of things. He can operate our running game and in our passing game. He's got a lot of athleticism. I don't think we'll have to limit him. Training camp and preseason games will be a big test."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We feel Watson starts for the Texans this year. He's competing with veteran Tom Savage for the starting job in training camp. Watson doesn't have a rocket arm and he'll throw the ball up for grabs sometimes (too often). However, he plays biggest in the brightest moments and has ice in his veins as a passer. With that defense and the weapons around Watson on offense, the Texans should push for the playoffs in 2017.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch surged late in offseason

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch 'played with greater fearlessness' and made significant strides over the final two weeks of the team's offseason program, according to Mike Klis of 9News Denver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynch is tall (6'7") has a rocket arm and the athleticism to be a threat as a runner. He's competing with last year's starter Trevor Siemian for the main job with the Broncos in 2017. The competition begins in training camp and Lynch was surging before the break. Lynch wants to go deep, and he was connecting on long passes with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders often in mincamp. He needs to be better when it comes to throwing with touch/timing on short routes if he wants to win the job.

DET - Coach believes RB Zach Zenner can help

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said he believes RB Zach Zenner can be an effective option for the Lions this season because of his skill set and his steady improvement. 'He can run the ball. He can pass protect. He can catch the ball out of the backfield if need be and I think just another year under his belt is going to be a great help. Zach is one of those guys that I think without question can be effective for us,' Caldwell said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Zenner is more than just a fullback, but how much more remains a mystery. He is a power back who can catch effectively out of the backfield. Zenner will be the Lions no3 back if he can beat out Dwayne Washington.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham in sync with QB

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham has been more of a complete player than expected and one of QB Russell Wilson's favorite weapons, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'He and Russell are really tuned in,' Carroll said. 'They spend a lot of time together.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham had a bounce back season in his second year with the Seahawks in 2016. The team figured out how to use him properly, and QB Russell Wilson developed an incredible rapport with the veteran tight end. Graham could built off the momentum he established last year, and he's currently going off the board at TE5 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

WAS - Perine and Kelley will lead solid rushing attack

    Source: John Keim - ESPN.com

John Keim, from ESPN.com, reports that both Rob Kelley and rookie Samaje Perine will lead a solid rushing attack for Washington in 2017. In their last two home games of 2016, Washington faced Carolina (ninth in yards per attempt) and the New York Giants (second). They managed a combined 67 yards on 28 carries. They just weren't good enough versus top run defenses and that could change this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners need to monitor this situation in training camp. Both backs will be used, and Washington should also use Chris Thompson as a receiving back. Kelley wore down as the season went on last year, while Perine is a powerful rookie who reminds everyone of Michael Turner (Falcons). Right now, Perine (RB36) and Kelley (RB41) have virtually identical ADPs in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - Zay Jones call offense explosive

Source: Kyle Silagyi - BillsWire, USA Today

Kyle Silagyi, of Billswire/USA Today, reports Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Zay Jones has high praise for the offense. In a recent Facebook Live chat, Jones said "I would say 'explosive,' with all the weapons that we have right now, with Tyrod, Sammy, and [LeSean] Shady [McCoy] especially. Also 'dominant,' with our O-line and the running game that we have."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bills offensive coordinator Rick Dennison has been a part of some productive offenses, mostly during his time in Houston as OC under Gary Kubiak. The system is structured around zone blocking and play action passing. Jones finished his college career at East Carolina as the FBS all-time leader in receptions. He's clearly talented and extremely driven. If Sammy Watkins struggles with injuries again this year, Jones could have an opportunity to do more. Jones should only be a consideration for fantasy owners as a late-round lottery ticket.

IND - Marlon Mack missed minicamp

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (undisclosed) missed minicamp with an undisclosed injury, but Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star doesn't believe the injury is serious.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mack is competing with Robert Turbin to be the primary backup to Frank Gore in 2017. The rookie from USF is swift and can break off big plays in the blink of an eye. He's got straight-line speed but takes some time to change direction and he's not disciplined running inside. Too often for the Bulls, Mack would bounce runs outside to no avail. He should learn quickly that 'taking it to the corner store' doesn't work that much in the NFL.

DAL - TE Rico Gathers making mistakes

Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers is still making mistakes as he improves his understanding of the game, and David Moore of the Dallas Morning News believes Gathers will likely be fighting for one of the final spots on the roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A sixth-round pick out of Baylor in 2016, Gathers never played college football. He was a basketball player with the size/athleticism combination (6'8" 275 pounds) that pro teams love to consider as tight ends in the NFL. Gathers is still learning the position, and it looks like he's got quite a way to go before making much of an impact on the field for the Cowboys.

CAR - WR Devin Funchess needs more targets

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth
Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess didn't receive enough targets last year, according to head coach Ron Rivera, and general manager Dave Gettleman agreed that Funchess wasn't used properly.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Funchess suffered a sophomore slump in 2016, and he's looking to bounce back this year. It's going to be difficult to 'break out' given the collection of talent the Panthers added this offseason. Rookie RB Christian McCaffrey is a big play runner and a fantastic receiver out of the backfield (or the slot). Rookie WR Curtis Samuel has 'adios' speed and can turn short passes into long gains. We can comfortably project Funchess for 40-ish catches in 2017.

    Tuesday Update

CAR - QB Cam Newton begins throwing

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) began light throwing Monday, June 26, for the first time since offseason shoulder surgery. He threw 45 passes to athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion. 'Obviously, it's still not 100 percent, but seeing the ball come out of my hand in a throwing motion was good. When I say it's not 100 percent, I'm noting the range of motion part,' Newton said. 'Like if you sleep with your legs hanging off your bed the whole night, you're going to wake up and be super stiff. Or like sitting on your hands, or sitting in an awkward position and finally getting up and moving - that's how I feel.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Newton has missed offseason work as he's been recovering from shoulder surgery. The plan is to have him ready sometime in training camp. At the start of camp, Newton may be eased into action. Reports have been positive about his recovery and with a new bevy of weapons around him Newton should be a QB1 for fantasy owners...and he has a chance of ending the year as a top-5 player at his position.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell plays ball

    Source: Twitter

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (groin) posted a video of him playing basketball over the weekend after having core surgery in the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It looks like Bell is at or near full strength. Bell is hoping for a new long-term contract from the Steelers as he was slapped with the franchise tag earlier this offseason. The two sides have until July 17th to work out a deal that could make him the highest paid running back in the league.

TB - Chemistry growing between Chris Godwin and QB Jameis Winston

Source: Justin Melo - Draftwire/USA Today
Justin Melo, from Draftwire/USA Today, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Chris Godwin is establishing chemistry with quarterback Jameis Winston. "Chemistry is not something that you can rush. It's also not something that happens overnight." Godwin said, "It takes a lot of good moves and a lot of well-ran routes before you can get there, and it also takes some mistakes. It takes mistakes to learn from to realize okay, we can't do that again or that I can't run that route like that again. It's definitely growing by each week."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bucs are stacked the wide receiver position, but Godwin is a player we love in dynasty leagues. A third-round pick out of Penn State this year, Godwin is stoutly build at 6'1" 209 pounds. He is a physical receiver who can win contested catches regularly. Godwin lacks quickness to separate consistently on short routes but he's got the build up speed to get on top of the defense on play-action passes. He's no4 on the depth chart right now, and projecting him for around 20 catches as a rookie seems fair.

WAS - Samaje Perine making coach confident

    Source: FanragSports.com - Ben Standig

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine already has a good feel for the game, good feet, good vision and good strength, according to running backs coach Randy Jordan. Perine has also impressed with his catching ability. Jordan said Perine catches the football 'so much better' than he thought he could.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Just think of former Falcons starter Michael Turner when you think of Perine. Physically, they have the same body style with a short/stocky build and a large/strong lower body. Perine is going to split time with Rob Kelley for Washington this year. Add in change-of-pace back Chris Thompson and you can see how things are a little complicated from a fantasy perspective. Right now, Perine has the highest ADP of the trio and the rookie is coming off the board at RB36 (8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott wants to take opponent's will away

    Source: Morty Ain - ESPN.com

Morty Ain, from ESPN.com, reports Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott tries to outphysical his opponent on every play. " I want them to tap out by the end of the game. I try to take my opponent's will away." Elliott recently said in an interview with ESPN The Magazine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That's why we love him. Just like Walter Payton back in the day, Elliott wants to take the fight to the defender. The Cowboys are going to continue shoving the ball down the throat of their opponent, and Elliott will be leading the way. Consider him as a top-3 pick in most formats.

KC - Cautiously optimistic about young WRs

    Source: Adam Teicher - ESPN.com

Adam Teicher, from ESPN.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are cautiously optimistic about their young group of wide receivers in 2017. With the release of veteran Jeremy Maclin, the team has no wideouts over the age of 24. "We're going to be OK," coach Andy Reid said. "I'm happy with the improvement that they've made over this camp and even last year. Do we have work to do? Absolutely. We've got to get this training camp in. We've got to put the pads on and do it there."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Outside of Tyreek Hill, there are questions with the Chiefs WR corps. We'll be monitoring Chris Conley to see if he can get open better and stop dropping so many passes (4.5 percent drop rate). It's Hill and TE Travis Kelce who are the primary fantasy assets in Kansas City. Also -- every fantasy player needs to monitor which players show the best chemistry with rookie QB Patrick Mahomes. He's their eventual starter, and his favorite weapons (outside the 'big 2') might be available for cheap in dynasty leagues.

NYG - Odell Beckham's head is where it needs to be

    Source: Jordan Raanan - ESPN.com
Jordan Raanan, from ESPN.com, reports New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is in a good place per former Giants great Michael Strahan. "I've seen this kid work," Strahan said of Beckham. "I've talked to him this offseason. His head is where it needs to be. "Everybody gives him a hard time about missing a little OTAs. Hell, I didn't go to those things, so I'm the wrong person to be sympathetic for people who are giving him a hard time."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Beckham missed the voluntary work this offseason but he stayed in great shape and is incredibly focused. He recently told NJ Advance Media, "Mentally, physically, spiritually, everything, I just don't think I've ever been as ready as I am now." Fantasy owners know he's a top-flight WR1 in 2017.

OAK - RB Marshawn Lynch brings new dimension to Oakland's offense

Source: Adam Woodard - USA Today

Adam Woodard, from USA Today, reports Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch can bring a new dimension to the offense in 2017. From 2011 to 2014, Lynch had four consecutive seasons with over 1,200 yards rushing. After 'retiring' in 2016, Lynch is back in the NFL and in his hometown of Oakland. If Lynch is as productive as he used to be, his presence will open things up for Derek Carr and the passing game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The last time we saw Lynch, he was trudging through an injury-shortened 2015 season with the Seahawks. He only played in 7 games and had a 3.8 YPC average on 111 carries. After taking the year off, Lynch should be refreshed and ready to go. This is the best offensive line he's ever been behind, and that's a scary thought for defenses tasked with stopping him. The AFC West is tough, but Lynch is unlikely to see stacked boxes as the Raiders passing game is so proficient. Lynch is being drafted as RB10 (2.08) in 12-team PPR leagues. On the flip side, few players are as beloved as Lynch and it's unlikely to find him undervalued in most drafts.

TEN - Harry Douglas impressed with rookie WRs

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Harry Douglas said he is impressed with how WRs Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor performed during offseason workouts. 'I can tell already they are going to be special. They listen, they go hard, and they both make plays. So it is good when you have young guys who can come in and do those things,' Douglas said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis is the player to highlight here for redraft leagues (although we do love Taylor in dynasty formats). Coming out of Western Michigan, Davis was a standout player with a heavy target load and an insane amount of competitive spirit. His routes are crisp and his hands are strong, so we expect Davis to become a favorite target of QB Marcus Mariota - and he could be an early factor in the red zone. His current ADP of WR39 (8.08) could end up being a big value in 2017.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor works as returner

    Source: PennLive.com - Aaron Kasinitz
Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor worked as a kick returner during offseason workouts and could join RB Wendell Smallwood as the first-team kick returners this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Agholor seems like a new man after two disappointing seasons with the Eagles. A first-round pick in 2015, Agholor has only 59 catches for 648 yards and three touchdowns during his pro career. The talent has always been there to do more, and this offseason there has been a steady drumbeat of positive reports about Agholor. He's fourth on the depth chart at wide receiver, but we're adding him on the cheap in dynasty leagues from owners who may have given up on him too quickly.

ATL - Owner confident in RB Devonta Freeman deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure
Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's potential long-term deal is likely to happen soon, according to owner Arthur Blank. 'He's the kind of person you want to have on your team for all the right reasons,' Blank said of Freeman. It has been reported that Freeman's deal could be done before training camp commences.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Blank is confident, so we'll remain confident about Freeman's contract situation. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Freeman has a cap hit of $1.9 million for the Falcons. A fourth-round pick in 2014, Freeman is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and he's a key piece of what the Falcons do offensively.

HOU - Slot position fits Braxon Miller

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller's speed and quickness give the Texans optimism about his place in the slot. Wide receivers coach John Perry believes that Miller's combination of size, speed and quickness make him a valuable offensive asset. In addition to his physical characteristics, Miller has learned more about route-running, coverage recognition, eating healthy and the little things that help make him a better receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller is fast, physical and tremendously agile (just search YouTube for 'Circle Button') with the ball in his hands. While Will Fuller stretches the field, Miller can be used effectively on short/underneath routes where his run-after-the-catch ability can be featured. Miller will be excited to watch, but there's unlikely to be much there from a fantasy perspective. We like projecting him for around 25 catches in 2017.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery has impressed so far

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery may be having the best offseason in a few years, according to wide receivers coach Mike Groh. Groh coached Jeffery for three seasons with the Chicago Bears and he believes his receiver is having his best offseason since 2013.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the veteran wide receiver -- and his fantasy owners -- here. Jeffery is currently going off the board at WR16 (3.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. He should be everything the Eagles have been looking for in a no1 wide receiver. Jeffery is at a good place physically and mentally as he continues to develop chemistry with his new QB Carson Wentz.

CHI - TE Zach Miller not a lock

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs
Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) isn't a lock to make the team, in the opinion of beat writer Brad Biggs. Miller will be pushed for a job by TE Daniel Brown, TE Ben Braunecker and TE MyCole Pruitt.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We'd agree with that sentiment. Once the Bears selected Adam Shaheen in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft, Miller was put on notice. Miller saw his season cut short last year in Week 10 when he suffered a lisfranc injury to his right foot. With the collection of talent at the position, Miller is likely to split time/targets in 2017 if he makes the final roster. He has a $2.3 million cap hit this year with only $500,000 remaining in dead money.

    Wednesday Update

CLE - DeShone Kizer not ready to start...yet

    Source: Pat McManamon - ESPN.com

Pat McManamon, from ESPN.com, reports when Cleveland Browns minicamp ended, the Browns were clear that rookie QB DeShone Kizer was not ready to start a game. Whether he is by the season opener remains to be seen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Understand this is coach / team talk. Few rookie QBs are ready to start in June. Kizer is competing with Cody Kessler and Brock Osweiler for the starting job and even if he doesn't win the job at the beginning of the season, we could see Kizer taking over at some point during the year. The rookie has a big arm and is mobile enough to keep plays alive with his feet. He needs to speed up his processor and make quicker decisions as a passer if he's going to be an effective pro.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer unsure about future

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Kyle Odegard

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he is not ready to say how much longer he will play football.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This may be the last hurrah for Palmer in 2017. The Cardinals don't have a surefire quarterback of the future on the roster as only Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert are on the depth chart behind Palmer. We did see Palmer play better as the 2016 season wore on after getting off to a poor start. It will be interesting to see what kind of start he gets off to in 2017.

CAR - QB Cam Newton changing his diet and approach

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton claims he is 'hands down' the thinnest he's been at this point in an offseason and admits he has to realize his job 'is not necessarily to always be the playmaker,' according to Panthers.com writer Bill Voth.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Newton is big and physical as a runner but taking that kind of punishment can wear him down. His rushing attempts fell from 132 in 2015 to 90 in 2016, and we think that's about what fantasy owners should project him for this season. He had surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder in March of 2017. Reports about Newton's recovery have all been positive and he is projected to return for the start of training camp.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell 50-50 to sign deal

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell signing a long-term deal could go either way, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter. Both sides have motivation to get it done, but there's no deal in sight for now.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If no agreement is done, Bell will make $12 million on the franchise tag in 2017. DeMarco Murray (Titans) makes the second-most money behind Bell for a running back with a pricetag of $6.25 million in 2017 per Spotrac.com. Both sides have admitted it will take time and plenty of work but they're striving to make something happen. With less than a month before the July 17th deadline there seems to be a bit more positive vibe around Bell's situation compared to other franchise-tagged players.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray expects to start

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) said he expects to be the starting running back Week 1 even though the team added RB Dalvin Cook in the draft.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's cool and all...he should be expecting to be the starter...but the reality is that Cook is going to push him hard for that job. Cook is the more dynamic back and plays with more speed and explosiveness to his game. Murray needs to be healthy, stay healthy and produce if he wants to keep Cook at bay. Cook needs to stay healthy and hang onto the rock (fumbling was a problem at FSU) if he wants to play up to his first-round potential.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder to lead team in targets?

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder will 'definitely' get targeted more often than Terrelle Pryor, according to CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The numbers keep going up for Crowder over the last two years, and we expect that trend to continue this year. He could easily be projected for around 75 catches, but the potential for a 100-catch season is there. Crowder could be a great value at his current ADP of WR30 (6.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - DEN happy with RB Devontae Booker's progress

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker performed well during offseason workouts, and the team believes Booker has the potential to become a solid receiver out of the backfield. Booker may receive work with the first-team offense during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners are sleeping on Booker and they shouldn't. Get him now in dynasty leagues on the cheap. He was a bad fit in the zone-blocking system under Gary Kubiak. He looks like a much better fit in the power/gap system under Mike McCoy. He's behind C.J. Anderson on the depth chart, but this may be Anderson's last year in Denver...plus he's got a history of getting banged up. Booker could play an important role for fantasy owners if opportunity arises for him this season.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins deal still a long shot

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins reaching a long-term deal is still a long shot, according to sources. There are promising signs of late, though.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cousins has been slapped with the franchise tag each of the last two years, and it only makes sense for Washington to get him on a long-term deal ASAP. There was some optimism in this situation a couple of weeks ago, but with the July 17th deadline looming things look a little more bleak. He's set to make almost $24 million in 2017.

    Thursday Update

IND - QB Andrew Luck still not throwing

    Source: The Indianapolis Star

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) told reporters Wednesday, June 28, despite the fact his rehab is going well, he still has yet to throw since his January shoulder surgery. "Feeling better and better every week," Luck said. "Still haven't started throwing. But that process will come when it's ready." When asked about the status of his rehab, he replied: "No reason to be sullen or morose! It's a beautiful day."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're watching Luck's progress closely as he returns from this injury. His Week 1 status is not in doubt at this time but we imagine Luck will be limited through training camp and into the preseason.

PHI - RB LeGarrette Blount has weight clause

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount can earn $50,000 if he weighs between 240-245 pounds on the team's reporting date for training camp, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blount is a big back and apparently the Eagles want him a little bit lighter than his listed weight of 250 pounds. The Eagles should use Blount to hammer opponents while using change-of-pace weapons like Darren Sproles or D.J. Pumphrey to attack on passing downs. Blount has a current ADP of RB25 (6.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SF - Team keeping tabs on 2018 QB class

Source: Chris Biderman - NinersWire/USA Today

Chris Biderman, from NinersWire/USA Today, notes San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch is keeping tabs on the 2018 quarterback class. "We understand that you have to have a big-time, franchise quarterback to have the success on a year-in and year-out basis like we want to," Lynch said on KNBR's Gary and Larry this week. "I've looked at it some, just in studying the players in (the 2018) draft, there's a quality class coming."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The 49ers don't have a franchise quarterback right now. Brian Hoyer should be their starter this year with Matt Barkley backing him up. Behind those two, rookie C.J. Beathard will try to stick on the team as a developmental prospect. We think the 49ers would jump at the chance to add someone like Kirk Cousins (Washington) if he becomes available in free agency. They will also likely be in position to select a quarterback in the 2018 NFL draft with a top-10 pick...maybe even no1 overall.

ARI - Retirement decision coming for QB Carson Palmer after 2017

    Source: Kyle Odegard - AZCardinals.com

Kyle Odegard, from AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is still invested in playing football. In a recent interview, Palmer revealed that he's not going to make any retirement decision until after the 2017 season. "I love every facet of it," Palmer said. "I don't want to stop. But I'll have to wait and make that decision after the season."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer isn't done just yet, and 2017 may not be his final year in the league...but it does look that way right now. The Cardinals are trying to make one more run with Palmer at the helm, and they'll be in the mix for the playoffs in 2017. They need Palmer to get off to a better start than he did last year if they want to secure themselves a postseason berth.

BUF - Nathan Peterman to push for No. 2 QB job

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman looked like a rookie during offseason workouts but is expected to compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like Peterman as a prospect in deep dynasty leagues. Tyrod Taylor's future in Buffalo is not a lock, and Peterman has some developmental upside. Peterman looked good during his college career at PITT (Tennessee transfer), and there are some in the scouting community that compare his skill set to that of Kirk Cousins (Washington). He'll compete with Cardale Jones to be the backup behind Taylor in 2017.

BUF - Jonathan Williams works on ball security

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills RB Jonathan Williams has worked on improving his ball security this offseason after head coach Sean McDermott said it was an area Williams needed to work on. Williams lost two fumbles on 28 carries in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams has good dynasty potential because of his natural running style, instincts for the position and power between the tackles. He needs to hang onto the rock if he wants to get some touches as LeSean McCoy's primary backup in 2017.

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Steelers) has been suspended for at least one year, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers waived Williams in March and now it looks like his pro career is done. Williams flashed some talent with the Bills in 2015 but will now be remembered as a cautionary tale.

BUF - WR Rashad Ross hopes to be more than returner

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Rashad Ross hopes to be more of a kick and punt returner and would like to have a role on offense. Ross has worked out with Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson and has learned how to use his speed better and run better routes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of Arizona State in 2013, Ross has speed to burn. He's bounced around the league seemingly each year, and Ross has been on seven pro teams during his career. Ross needs to make the 53-man roster (he's not a lock) before worrying about a role on offense.

    Friday Update

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles cutting, doing everything

Source: Denver7 Sports - Troy Renck

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said he has been cutting and doing everything on his surgically repaired left knee, and he finally feels normal. 'I feel like the way I am cutting that I am back to the normal me, man. It feels good to be moving around again,' said Charles, who was limited to eight games the past two seasons because of knee injuries. 'I have (known) this the whole offseason (that the knee was fine). Nobody can take nothing away from me except God when my time is up. I am still 30 years old. I still have a lot of special stuff to do.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's good to hear he is feeling back to normal, but a 30-year old back coming off of knee issues--over the course of two years no less--is unlikely to be able to sustain a high level of play for a whole season. We think it more likely he is a change-of-pace back who gets a decent amount of touches and, as long as he is healthy, can produce consistent points. That said, he's not going to do so in a way that gives you more than flex type points. Right now his ADP is hovering at 132 overall and 47 among backs.

CAR - QB Cam Newton's confidence was shaken

    Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's down year in 2016 was due in part to a loss of confidence in his offensive line, which was hit hard by injuries. A big part of Newton's game has always been his ability to hold the ball, buy time and strike downfield. The injuries to the line affected that.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The O-line had been shaky for some time, and Newton had made it look much better with his ability than it deserved to look. A healthy line will help his game, but the team needs to continue to address the talent level up front as well. And no offense intended to Ryan Kalil, but we're not sure brother Matt is really much of an upgrade at left tackle. If he plays like he did in Minnesota, Newton is in for a long year. At least throwing to new rookie weapons RB Christian McCaffrey and WR Curtis Samuel should help build Newton's confidence.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson sheds weight

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson shed 11 pounds in the offseason after working with a nutritionist. He weighed 225 pounds with 16 percent body fat in March and recently weighed 214 pounds with 10 percent body fat.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Speed and overall conditioning was never an issue, and we hope the loss of weight doesn't leave him more prone to getting banged up. That said, mobility is his game so as long as he's quick, he should be fine. Then again, even the minor changes (adding Luke Joeckel) might not help a unit which Pro Football Focus has ranked 32nd in the league. All that said, Wilson was a great fantasy quarterback despite a bad unit in front of him and we expect a healthy Wilson will be a great one again this year. He's going in early drafts as the No. 6 quarterback so far with an ADP of 54 overall, so it seems Fantasy GMs agree.

NYJ - QB Christian Hackenberg overhauls footwork

    Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg has pleased the team with his overhauled footwork, but he's not consistent enough yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's an air of distrust around the Jets quarterback position, especially since we all wonder why Hackenberg couldn't get on the field last season instead of the terrible options the Jets had. Yes, sad Ryan Fitzpatrick, that includes you. Reports that Hackenberg was terribly inaccurate (and hitting reporters on the sideline) this spring only make Jets fans more nervous. We're suggesting everyone stay away from most of the Jets offense this year, especially the passing offense. It's too volatile to spend more than a late pick, and we won't be touching Hackenberg with a 100-yard pole.

CLE - WR Corey Coleman's WRs coach talks hamstring

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot
Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman (hamstring) is currently recovering from a strained hamstring -- a problem that has plagued him back to his collegiate days at Baylor. Browns wide receivers coach Al Saunders said he is disappointed for Coleman to be missing time. The expectation is for Coleman to return for training camp July 26, if he can improve the strength of the hamstring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman had injury troubles in his first year, and this particular one has been a long-standing issue. Every time he misses an OTA, camp day or anything else he is stymieing his development. Coleman has the ability but that won't make a difference if he can't stay on the field and off the trainer's table. The uncertainty at quarterback doesn't help his value either. In early drafts he is currently the 41st receiver off the boards, with an overall ADP of 106.

BUF - Jonathan Williams won't be disciplined

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills RB Jonathan Williams won't be disciplined by the NFL under the substance abuse policy. Williams was recently found not guilty in a case involving a DWI.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for people looking to handcuff Williams to LeSean McCoy. We think Williams will get some carries, but unless McCoy gets injured, the backup will remain just that--a backup.

DET - RB Matt Asiata on borderline

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett
Detroit Lions RB Matt Asiata may be on the borderline if the Lions decide to keep five running backs, but if the Lions carry four backs then Asiata may be on the sideline.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Asiata is a limited back who is solid in close quarters and can catch the ball but isn't an every down back by any stretch. If the Lions are looking to move away from a fullback on carries, everything Asiata can do is something another back can do, and better. We get the feeling Asiata is a long shot to make the final roster.

    Saturday Update

PHI - WR Dorial Green-Beckham cut

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Philadelphia Eagles WR Dorial Green-Beckham was waived Friday, June 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green-Beckham has now been on two teams in two seasons (basically). A second-round pick of the Titans in 2015, Green-Beckham has a great size/athleticism combination at 6'5" 237 pounds. He's never put it together at the pro level. Green-Beckham had the 7th-highest drop rate (6.9 percent) of any wide receiver in 2016. Couple concentration problems with work ethic problems and you can see why the Eagles moved on from Green-Beckham after a year just like the Titans did. He should be able to latch on with another team around the start of training camp.

BAL - TE Gary Barnidge an option for Ravens?

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) could be an option for the Baltimore Ravens after the Ravens lost TE Darren Waller for the season, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barnidge is just waiting for the right opportunity. We could see him winding up with the Ravens, or a team like the Broncos. Waller wasn't going to be a big part of the passing game in Baltimore, so it's not like Barnidge is a 'must add' for the Ravens.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers excited for TE group

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Rob Reischel

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said the additions of TE Martellus Bennett and TE Lance Kendricks give the offense more flexibility to run two-tight end sets. 'Both guys can put their hand on the ground and go and block guys really well but also add that dimension in the passing game,' Rodgers said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Packers have needed to find a good 'move' tight end for quite some time. Bennett could easily be that for the team, and he's an upgrade over Jared Cook or Richard Rodgers. Bennett should be able to produce like a low-end TE1 for fantasy owners in 2017. He's going off the board at TE8 (7.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - Dalvin Cook has leg up in RB competition

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook has an early leg up in the running back competition, according to RB Latavius Murray. 'Dalvin's already been through the organized team activities, he's already been through the offseason,' Murray said. 'So, he has that up on me.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray underwent ankle surgery back in March, and he's been on the road to recovery ever since. Cook is a more dynamic player and is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. Murray could get some short-yardage or goal-line work, but we expect Cook to win the starting job if he can stay healthy and hang onto the rock.

PHI - RB Ryan Mathews not on the way out?

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles told ESPN's Josina Anderson Friday, June 30, that he - along with backfield mates LeGarrette Blount and Ryan Mathews - 'can share the ball and everyone can be happy.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles are going to use a RBBC that may be difficult for fantasy owners to navigate. Blount will be the battering ram as a runner, but he'll come off the field during passing downs. Sproles is the change-of-pace back for the Eagles, but rookie D.J. Pumphrey is being groomed for that role as well. That doesn't leave a lot of room for Mathews in the rotation.

CHI - Mitchell Trubisky endorses QB Mike Glennon

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Chicago Bears first-round QB Mitchell Trubisky threw his support behind Mike Glennon in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio on Friday, June 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Glennon is the free agent addition who got a three-year, $45 million contract from the Bears earlier this year. In 2017, Glennon will have a cap hit of $14 million and a dead cap value of $18.5 million. He's the starter until Trubisky is ready for prime time. We could see Trubisky get a 'redshirt' year during his rookie season so long as Glennon doesn't fail miserably as the team's starter.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden the likely backup

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is expected to serve as the No. 2 running back this season, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden won't see much time with Ezekiel Elliott leading the way. With McFadden as the no2 back, Alfred Morris could be expendable. There have been reports earlier this year that indicated Morris would be traded or released.

CHI - WR Victor Cruz working out of slot

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

Chicago Bears WR Victor Cruz worked mainly out of the slot during OTAs, and he said playing a position he is comfortable with helped him find a rhythm.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting note here...and a wise move by the Bears. Cruz saw his best years coming out of the slot, but the Giants moved him to the outside last year. In 2016, only one of Cruz's 39 receptions came from him lining up in the slot as it was then rookie Sterling Shepard taking over inside. It will be interesting to see how the Bears use him behind Cameron Meredith, Kevin White and Kendall Wright in 2017.

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard (eye) underwent eye surgery in May in order to improve his eyesight.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He hopes the improved vision will help him as a pass catcher. Howard was the league's second-leading rusher in 2016, running for over 1,300 yards. He also was targeted 50 times and caught 29 of those passes for 298 yards and one receiving touchdown. Fantasy owners are taking Howard off the board at RB9 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Sunday Update

PIT - Le'Veon Bell feeling good

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (groin) has been training in Los Angeles this offseason and said he is feeling healthy after he underwent groin surgery earlier this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There was a video of Bell playing basketball a week ago, so apparently he's feeling good and ready to go. Bell has yet to sign his $12.1 million franchise tender for 2017. Some feel there's going to be a holdout into training camp, but the two sides have until July 17th to work out a new long-term deal. Injuries and suspension have kept Bell from playing a full 16-game season since 2014. If healthy, Bell could easily end the season as the best running back in fantasy football.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde a bad fit?

Source: Santa Rosa Press Democrat - Grant Cohn

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde averaged 2.5 yards per carry last season on runs designed to go outside the tackles, and Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat believes Hyde is a bad fit for an offense run by head coach Kyle Shanahan, who calls more runs outside the tackles than any other coach in the league.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hyde has a current ADP of RB19 (4.08) in 12-team PPR leagues. and there are plenty of fantasy owners who (rightfully) see the potential of a starting running back in a Shanahan system. Hyde had 39 carries outside the tackles last year, compared to 36 for Tevin Coleman and 57 for Devonta Freeman under Shanahan in 2016. Hyde is in a contract year, so the incentive is there for him to produce at a high level. Watch this situation closely as others on the 49ers roster (Joe Williams, Matt Breida) may be catching the eye of the staff.

MIN - More production for WR Laquon Treadwell?

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur believes he can utilize his weapons more effectively with a full offseason in his role, and Conor Orr of NFL.com thinks WR Laquon Treadwell could be one of the main beneficiaries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In nine games as a rookie last year, the 2016 first-round pick struggled to make an impact and only caught one pass for 15 yards on the season. Treadwell is competing as the no3 receiver for the Vikings behind Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Coming out of college, Treadwell drew comparisons to DeAndre Hopkins (Texans) because of his athleticism and ability to make crazy catches with ease. The Vikings are hoping he can start flashing more of that in year two.

HOU - WR Will Fuller to focus on receiving duties

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain
Houston Texans coaches want WR Will Fuller to concentrate on improving as a receiver rather than worrying about special teams, although he is considered the club's best punt returner.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller's game as a receiver is all about speed ala Ted Ginn (Saints). Just like Ginn, Fuller also has a problem with concentration and will drop some easy passes from time to time. Fuller caught 47 passes last year as a rookie, and we could see the 2016 first-round pick getting around 50 catches in his second season. With rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson, we absolutely love taking Fuller as a 'lottery ticket' pick late in drafts. His current ADP is WR72 (14.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CIN - Cody Core ready for more

    Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals WR Cody Core is seeing the benefits from the playing time he received last year when WR A.J. Green was injured, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. 'It gives him the confidence to come out and work in the offseason and know that he can achieve higher goals,' Lewis said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sixth-round pick out of Ole Miss in 2016, Core got onto the field in eight games for the Bengals last year. He finished his rookie season by leading the team in receiving (four catches, 82 yards) in the season finale against the Ravens. On the season, Core had 17 catches for 200 yards. Core is an ascending talent, but right now he's no better than no4 (probably no5) on the Bengals depth chart at the position. Keep track of him in deep dynasty leagues.

A fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Hollins teamed with Ryan Switzer to give the North Carolina Tarheels (and their quarterback Mitchell Trubisky) a nice 1-2 punch. At 6'4" 221 pounds, Hollins can get down the field and track deep passes. For a big man, Hollins can get off the line in a hurry and doesn't need a lot of space to get up to top speed. He may never be more than a deep threat, but Hollins is a playmaker on long bombs. Plus, he's a sound special teams player.

PHI - Philly high on Marcus Johnson

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Marcus Johnson's strong offseason is one of the reasons WR Dorial Green-Beckham was released.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of Texas in 2016, Johnson wasn't an impact player in college and finished his career for the Longhorns with 61 catches for 793 yards and four touchdowns. He is a solid contributor on special teams, plus Johnson is an outstanding athlete as evidenced by his performance at the Longhorns pro day (4.37 40-yard dash, 11'4" broad jump, 22 bench press reps). We'll be monitoring his progress in super deep dynasty leagues.

NYG - Expectations rising for Evan Engram

    Source: Giants.com - John Schmeelk

New York Giants TE Evan Engram could finish this season with 45 to 50 catches, according to John Schmeelk and Lance Medow of Giants.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not outlandish as Engram is basically a super-sized wide receiver playing the tight end position. Rookie tight ends rarely reach this kind of production though and since 1996 only three rookies at the position have been top-5 fantasy producers. We love Engram's skill set and the way the Giants should use him. That being said, it's safer/better to draft him as an upside TE2 in your fantasy leagues. Get yourself a solid starting tight end, then draft Engram later near his current ADP of TE19 (14.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - TE Charles Clay to be limited in practices

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci
Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) will have his snaps limited in practices this season to try to manage his chronic knee issues, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Clay's knee injury is something that must be handled correctly during the week. The team is likely to limit him in training camp as well. That leaves more reps available for guys like Nick O'Leary and converted quarterback Logan Thomas.
