Is Blake Bortles the Guy You Hate or Respect the Most?

Dude is killing it so far today and has this in the sheets later ... (although the face is a little beat in some pics I have seen, but who can argue the rest of the package)

The Blake Bortles era could be on the verge of ending, sooner than later.

In a rare nationally-televised night game in Jacksonville, the Jaguars quarterback drew boos during a lackluster performance including an ugly misfire to a wide-open target.

Providing an appropriate bookend to an overthrow that drew mutters of profanity from receiver Allen Robinson, Bortles took too much off of the throw, putting it behind him. If Bortles had hit Robinson in stride, he’d possible still be running.

The question now becomes whether Bortles, who completed eight of 13 passes for 65 yards, will be sitting. ESPN’s Jon Gruden already has suggested that Chad Henne get some first-team reps so that Bortles can get his mind right, and so that the coaching staff can see what Henne can do.

There’s another important reason to park Bortles’ butt on the bench. With more than $19 million in injury-guaranteed salary due for 2018, the Jaguars may want to do with Bortles what Washington did with Robert Griffin III in 2015, putting him in bubble wrap and ensuring that he’ll be healthy enough to pass a physical (and be cut) before his 2018 pay becomes fully guaranteed.

Blake Bortles sucks !!!!!! He is not built for the NFL , not sure how he threw so many touchdowns at UCF his alma mater . He needs to re structure his form and the way he throws the ball . He has a delay when he throws , and it gives defense a couple seconds to run toward the direction where he is throwing . He is basically telegraphing his throws every time . You can't have that kind of delay in NFL , college yes , but not NFL , no way . He should retire , he sucks , and any good defense will pick him off easily every time . I am surprised Jacksonville sticks with him . Bad quarterback , maybe he can beat the browns !!! Lol

His stats are actually pretty astronomical in garbage time

"In garbage time — which we define as the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, when a team is down multiple scores (9 or more points) — Bortles transforms into the franchise quarterback Jacksonville envisioned when they made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft,” Michael Salfino wrote. “In these scenarios in the past two seasons, Bortles has completed 78 of 118 for 964 yards with 12 touchdowns. He’s tossed only four picks. His passer rating in these instances is 111. To get a sense of how good that is, Tom Brady’s rating across all of last season was 112.”

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone says there’s now a competition at quarterback between incumbent starter Blake Bortles and veteran backup Chad Henne. But if the two are close enough to be in competition at all, it’s hard to imagine how the Jaguars could justify giving the job to Bortles.

That’s because Bortles’ contract contains a $19 million salary in 2018, which is guaranteed if Bortles suffers an injury that prevents him from passing a physical next year. In other words, every play the Jaguars put Bortles on the field, they’re risking putting themselves on the hook for a $19 million salary next year.

That would be a risk worth taking if Bortles had done anything to justify his selection as the third overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft. But if Bortles had done anything to justify his lofty draft status, he wouldn’t be competing with Henne heading into his fourth season.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times Union doesn’t even believe that Marrone means it when he says it’s an open competition. In O’Halloran’s view, the competition is over and Henne has won. O’Halloran even sees the Jaguars cutting Bortles before the season so they don’t have to risk him getting hurt this year and putting them on the hook for his $19 million salary next year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Blake Bortles is getting another shot as Jacksonville's starting quarterback.

Coach Doug Marrone made the surprising announcement Saturday, naming Bortles his starter for the opener at Houston and ending any uncertainty heading into the preseason finale.

Marrone was scheduled to address his decision after practice. The call came a little more than a week after Marrone opened up the job and pleaded with Bortles and veteran Chad Henne to "go out there and take it."

Bortles presumably did enough in Thursday's exhibition loss to Carolina to keep the starting job he's had the last three years. The third overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft will make his 46th consecutive start when the Jaguars open the season Sept. 10 at Houston.

Can't believe that Marrone is a HC again. Football is a helluva drug.
