yeah, at least now a chance is given to both teams... supposedly

but if the opening team gets a TD, you're still shit out of luck. just look at the Broncos game.

the reality is it's only slightly better. if you lose the toss and they junk an 80 ydr like the Bronocs, your season is over and you didn't even get a shot

It's better than one play/penalty and than a fg and your season is over.

Both teams should get ball but what can you do.. especially the way nfl is now, more offense advantage offense get the coin flip I would say your chances of winning are above 60%

I was thinking that in a game like this - what would happen if the team with the opening kickoff in OT went for an onside kick ?

If they dont recover it then if they can keep the opposition to a FG then they would get the ball back with a chance...but what happens if they were to recover it ? Would the other team actually get back on the field if they went and scored a FG or would the Onside kick count as their possession and it be game over ?

well, the way this game ended.... the OT rules didn't do shit.... just created more injustice.

Rule should be ... if a team gets a FG at any point..... NO MATTER WHAT.. the other team gets another kick off... and one more shot.

    that would be better.

cuz this game just ended on some bullshit

the rule is fine imo, it's more fair. but the way the ref explains it in like 5 sentences seems pretty dumb. can't you pretty much simplify it down to:

"same as regular OT except if the first possession results in a FG the other team gets a possession to match or beat it"

why does it take them 100 words to explain that?

i'm fine with it. and if your team gives up a TD on the first drive you deserve to lose. end of story.

better than the college football way. at least the teams have to drive down the field. The team that can't do it loses. what's the problem?

I like the rules. Winning team has to put together a long TD drive or a FG + defensive stop. Makes it harder for teams to angle shoot like they do in college or the old NFL OT rules.

So in other words, you lost money on SF.

The new rules are fine. They achieve the objective they were supposed to which is stopping a team from winning the coin toss and going 3 or 4 plays to set up for a field goal to win it.

Exactly, I don't know why everybody says new overtime rule(s) (plural). There is only ONE new rule, everything else is the same as it has always been.

    new OT rules suck ass.

best OT rules are college foots. NFL is basically, "Oh, you had your shot"

bullshit. loves me some college football OT. "Oh, you just scored a TD? Well, right back at you, bitch. Here's 7! Let's do it again!"

    ....and its so simple.

Play 1 extra qtr. At the end of the qtr if the teams are tied KEEP playing and revert to sudden death. Simple; whoever is ahead at the end of a quater they win the game, if they are still tied no need to kickoff just keep playing until there is a score.

Adding a full quarter would add the drama of the last two minutes and would be the most fair.

what if the giants had scored 3 touchdowns in the first 5 mins? you want them to continue playing? what for?
