Cutler breaks thumb on throwing hand

There's an article in the Chicago Tribune. No more details are known at this point including if he will miss any time.

Oh my, that is beyond terrible if true. If he's out for the year, they should give Brett Favre a call. haha

If your QB gets hit enough he is going to get hurt.

He hasn't even been getting hit a lot lately. Something like this is a fluke and can happen to anyone at any time.

Playoffs are in 7 weeks. If he truly has a broken thumb, you're typically looking at 3-4 immobile and then 2-3 week strengthening. I would say 6-8 weeks total. Might be able to be back just in time for the playoffs only, if they make it?

Probably done for regular season. Start of playoffs are 7 weeks away. Now at 7-3, Bears have a good shot at playoffs, even without him.

    OMG you can't be serious!

Cutler has been playing incredible football the last 5 games, scrambling outside the pocket to extend plays, precision passing between the secondary and man does this guy have an ARM!

I feel sorry for the Bears.

    WTF

Who are cutler's backups? Todd Collins and Caleb still there? No playoffs then. They will lose out.

if they make playoffs, guarantee you he starts and probaly starts week 17. Just don't see how they can score now. They could be screwed, just stack the box

This will hurt forte owners in fantasy also

Terrible blow to a team playing well. And it happened on the TD saving tackle after he threw the INT when Knox slipped coming out of his break....After all the blows he took in the pocket, that's not what got him.

Todd Collins is on an island somewhere. The backup is Hanie, then rookie Nate Enderle.

And with their position and schedule, they may be able to squeak in anyway.

Caleb Hanie has talent, but is raw. He has played in some exciting games though.

This sucks... I'm a Bears fan and thought this team could have made a run. I like Hanie, but he doesn't have the arm or moxie of Cutler.

Bears were the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NFC... this sucks if he is out more than a few weeks.

I don't believe he's really hurt. I heard he was "thumb wrestling" while walking through a shopping mall after the game.

For the idiots still questioning Cutler's toughness, it appears he broke the thumb in the 2nd quarter and threw 26 passes afterward.

He played better afterwards too..I dont understand why he cant play the rest of the season though if he finished out the game? Risk of further injury?

Anyway, brett favre is surely healthy by now, why not give him a call? Short season, good run game, perfect for him. Just in time for the snow.

He might have torn ligaments. Can't fight the x-rays. Seems that he didn't clue anyone else in to the injury during the game, probably figured it was just a bruise.

I broke my dominant hand thumb once (17 years ago), at a concert. Pain was beyond belief, didn't go to doctor until the next day. It was at least 2 more months before I could really do anything with it. Occasionally ached for years after too. Shitty injury.

with the schedule the bears have left they can get hanie to manage the games and win with defense and special teams. as a bears fan it kills cause we always get bad bounces like this.

Tebow will get his showdown vs. the Bears defense. Looking forward to Urlacher vs. Tebow.

Cutler was playing completely out of his mind with the Bears having by far the best chance to beat GB and now they're done lol

Cutler is 90% of the reason they've come on strong. He completed 7 straight 3rd conversions toady, including one where he was falling down in a tie game 3rd Q deep in Bears territory. Basically won the game. He made a better play like that against PHI that won it there too

    That's all over now

He could be back by the playoffs. I think they went from about an 80% chance to make the playoffs to about 60%. They still have a very good chance. 3-3 would probably do it and the schedule is winnable. Wild card race doesn't have much depth. Bears are still built to win with defense, special teams and running. Cutler is what made the Bears possibly special though. They can make playoffs now without him, but can't make a deep run without him.
