Bears, Bolts Under 34.5

Don't look for the Chargers and Bears to break the scoreboard tonight in Chicago since neither team will bring much to the table in terms of offense.

Lovie Smith's proud Chicago Bears defense gave up 28 points to the San Francisco 49ers in last weekend's preseason opener, and you can bet they got a harsh talking to following that disaster.

The Chargers' Phillip Rivers looked very sharp vs the bread and butter defense of the Green Bay Packers last week, but expect him to have a much rougher time this week against an angry bunch of Bears' first stringers. Backups AJ Feeley and Charlie Whithurst are also not going to strike fear in any defense. The Chargers already lost RB/WR/Kick returner Darren Sproles last weekend and we look for them to come out a little more conservative this time around. Tomlinson again won't play in this contest, so look for backups Michael Turner and company to get alot of carries.

As far as the Bears' offense, they couldnt score last year, they couldn't score last week, and we don't expect them to score much tonight against an improving San Diego defense that held the Packers to just three 4th-quarter points last week. Also, the last thing Lovie Smith wants is to see starting QB Rex Grossman go down with another injury.

This should be a defensive struggle all the way and we look for this contest to stay safely under the total.
