Shouldn't lakers try to miss the playoffs and test the lottery?

First round exit or a top three pick? Pick Ben mcclemore or trey burke and start over.

only way they get a top 3 pick is if Stern rigs the lottery because they would only have one lottery ball in the pot...... on second thought....

Patrick Ewing to the Knicks Not really a top notch sure thing in the draft anyhow just a bunch of youngsters coming out too early getting ready to become role players in the pro's for the most part.

If the Spurs sense tonight the Lakers are trying to lose on purpose they won't let them. Pop would pull the starters and tell his bench to not score or play defense.

Phoenix would have two high lottery picks for steve nash. Great move. Lakers will be in the lottery then.

I don't know all the numbers, but I think they should consider it. Lakers are doing nothing next year Kobe or not. He already said next year was his last. Maybe that changes now? But he'll be a FA and an old hurt man will take all their cap space. Time to move on. They need to rebuild. Let Howard go too. Draft well and save cap space. Maybe Lebron will go to LA. But they need to move on.

Kobe injury further solidifies Howard resigning with the Lakers.

Kobe will miss at least half the season which leaves Howard as THE MAN.

Kobe will most likely never be the same......which leaves Howard as THE MAN.

Howard wants to be THE MAN.

Would be a mistake to give Howard a big contract.

No matter what happens the league will not let them get in a rut for too long it's the Lakers after all and they are too important. Probably see a couple "bad" years barely above .500 like after Magic left but they will not turn into the Bobkittens or anything close.

the league cant force people to sign there
only way the lakers even get a top pick is if they become like the bobcats

Yeah I realize that but it's still the Lakers is what I meant. The logo and market still carry alot of weight around the league and they will always be a top destination for free agents.

OK then the Lakers are just hopeless. I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the playoffs for the next 3 seasons. Amd for those who say nooo, it's the Lakers, of course they'll be good....look at the Bulls after Jordan left (the second time). The sooner Kobe moves on the better for the Lakers.

Phoenix owns this year's pick... so better to get in the Playoffs///

Kupchak did not bother with trying to protect it..
in his wildest nightmare.. he never imagined missing the playoffs..

what a dingbat.. nash is slow and continually injured. no defense either

we will find out when 2014 rolls around
but its got less to do with FA wanting to play for the lakers than it is for them to be in LA
most often $$$$ will always be the highest motivation and winning secondary
any1 think chris paul is gonna sign with the lakers ?

The lakers are losing their first round pick this year regardless. Like stated before, the suns get it if they miss the playoffs, but if they make the playoffs then the cavs have the option to swap picks with them in which case they would swap the heat first round pick with the lakers moving them to the back of the first.

The Lakers won't get the first round pick but they will get one of the top ones, because Stern will say so. The first pick in the draft will be the bum with the high-top Nerlens Noel and who gives a damn about him? Just saying the kid literally looks like a chimpanzee when he puts his mouth-piece in (you can try to deny, but you see the resemblance too). If the Lakers pick up Trey Burke they will be ballin'. Kick out Kobe and have Burke easily slide into his place. Five years from now it will be "Kobe who?"

I wouldnt do ANYTHING to get a lottery pick anymore. If I had a top 5 picks this year I would trade it for three studs. These kids suck coming out early.

Burke might be really good, he may not be. Ben McElmore? Please

Howard wants to be liked. Stepping up and taking over by being the leader opens you up to success envy than on to hate. just look at how much contempt Ratzz has towards Kobe, Howard wants no part of that...
