    THIS.

So, he booked 10 mil a year over a four year span in losses. What about prior to 2010? What about post-2014?
What about how old he is and all the money he made in the 90s ?

People are so naive. He may have lied so that IRS wouldn't look to collect taxes from his winnings. As far as I know he may be up gambling as there is no record of his betting. So if he portrays himself as a loser then it is easier to circumvent limits if he is still gambling.

Not to mention, he was friends with one of the most successful gamblers in the world, Billy Walters.

I doubt he's a winning gambler, Floyd Mayweather as well. They are flashy action junkies if I had to guess.

His longtime caddie left because Phil wouldn't pay him what he was owed. Supposedly this was a six-figure amount, which I believe without much question. Phil's always been a self-absorbed individual.

Mickelson’s sports betting habits are not the focus of Shipnuck’s book – roughly 5-10% of it relates to sports wagering – but the betting passages shed light on Mickelson’s risk-seeking behavior. Anecdotes provided by his peers recall Mickelson’s disinterest in certain Sunday golf rounds while he checked NFL scores frequently to see which teams were covering the spread

Then he had to cover his plane and mansion(s), plus his agent, caddie, pilots, chef, personal trainer, swing coaches and sundry others. Per the government audit, that's roughly how much Mickelson averaged in annual gambling losses."
Author of this article sounds like an average sbr poster. He doesn't pay tax on 40 million. He pays taxes on the net income after deducting all those mentioned expenses.

Many football players in usa and other black athletes had lot more than this and got to zero fast without even "gambling".
