This move will really improve their offense.

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers on Friday added a proven scorer, signing veteran right wing Petr Sykora to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A two-time 30-goal scorer, Sykora joins an Oilers team that added rising star Joffrey Lupul in an offseason trade that sent stud defenseman Chris Pronger to Anaheim.

Edmonton already possesses a talented offensive arsenal that includes Ryan Smyth, Shawn Horcoff, Ales Hemsky, Fernando Pisani, Raffi Torres and Jarret Stoll, and has a potential force in 20-year-old Rob Schremp waiting in the wings.

Drafted 18th overall by New Jersey in 1995, Sykora split last season with Anaheim and the New York Rangers, combining for 23 goals and 28 assists in 74 games. He notched 31 points in 40 games with New York after being acquired on Jan. 8.

The Czech scored 18 goals as a rookie with New Jersey in 1995-96 and has surpassed the 20-tally plateau each of the last seven seasons. He was a member of the Devils' Stanley Cup championship team in 2000 and helped get the Ducks within one win of the trophy three years later.

Sykora enjoyed his most productive season in 2000-01, registering career highs of 35 goals, 46 assists and 81 points in 73 games with New Jersey. He also tallied 34 times for Anaheim in 2002-03, his first campaign with the club after being traded in July 2002.

In 682 career games with the Devils, Ducks and Rangers, Sykora has collected 225 goals and 512 points. He also represented his country at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, recording one goal in four contests.
