was the nathan horton hit a dirty hit?

I am actually scared for his health, but that aside, horton was caught admiring his pass.

for once I don't have an opinion whether is was dirty or not.
    it is 50/50 for me.

    what are you're thoughts?

Yea i agree with you, I hope he's ok. It wasn't really a blindside hit just a late hit. Def a penalty though.

Late hit is 3 seconds.... That was less than 2. Clean hit

It depends, are you a fan of new school Bettman ruined hockey, or the real old time game, where you have 3 steamboats after puck possession to be "fair game" for a hit like that?

If you are the latter, its clean.
If you are a new school fan, its dirty.

But in "today's NHL" that's clearly a late hit, to a defense-less player. Suspension looming.

And Horton's a heck of a hockey player....he looked like he didn't know his name after that one.

Canucks should win this series easily without Horton in the B's lineup.
He is the guy who gets the game winners.

Been doing it since he was in Florida.
    Hope he's alright....

It was pretty friggin dirty... way late, and launched into him. Absolutely no excuses for shit like that.

Hopefully Horton will be okay, and get to come back next season to get some revenge

If Boston is smart, they fight a Vancouver defense man, thus rendering them 4 deep on the blueline for the remainder of the game.

Total blind side cheap shot, caught his face while he went to lean shoulder/elbow into the player. If going for and getting the player's head is clean, then is anything dirty?

It was late but it was clean, If there was elbow or leaving feet or charge then you have grounds for suspension but it's a clean hit alittle late. Watch it real time not slow mo... It's barley late... Ever heard of finishing your check. Obviously non of you play or coach hockey. If he gets up immiediatly it's a non call and non issue. Routine check happens 100 times a night mostly along the boards

In my opinion it was a little late, but it wasn't dirty. The offensive player should know better than to skate straight down the middle while checking out a nice pair of on the side of the ice. He was looking to the left for way too long. He had plenty of time to snap his head back into the game and pay attention to what was in front of him which is why I have a hard time blaming the guy for laying him out. If he gets through the middle there he might be in prime position for a rebound chance.

it was late for sure but I don't know if you saw the cbc feed where they showed Horton taunting Rome while he was on the Canucks bench. Its an emotional game and it was definitely pay back.

    just sayin'

Late hit to an unsuspecting Horton. It had been an emotional game up to that and Horton should have had his head up though.

Hmmm, sure looks like he leaves his feet, huh? But hey, you're the hockey expert, right? Since "non" of us play or coach?

no he did not leave his feet. Its obvious. Ya after he made contact but that isnt how leaving his feet is determined

premeditated would result in suspension for sure......

20 years ago thats a clean hit, today its a penalty.

Sad that it resulted in what appears to be a serious injury.....hitting is part of the game, and yes Horton should have been skating with his head up and not admiring his pass, but its not 20 years ago, its Bettman era hockey, and the end result was a penalty.

    "gotta protect the players"

It certainly should be, since the point of preventing "launching" is minimizing the force of those hits. Launching for the hit just as you hit someone has more force than a hit when you're already in the air... I don't know the exact wording of the rule, but that hit sure as hell was illegal in the spirit of the rule

Clearly a penalty under the modern rules and I'm an old school defenceman. Cardinal rule that many seem to have forgotten is to protect yourself at all times...Classic shot of Thomas' stats: Saves-35 Hits- 1. That was stellar-crash the freaking net pay the price. Cheers

scot stevens would be proud of that hit and in his day wouldnt be a penalty....

but by todays standards that hit was late.... though the check itself is textbook ...he didnt leave his feet (only after contact was made do the skates leave the ice caused by the collision)... elbow down

first rule of hockey ever taught is NEVER ADMIRE YOUR PASS!

He will get a suspension since there is a hearing for 11 am. 2 games max, but since he missed pretty much all of game 3, he will get 1 game. Personally, I don't think this is a huge loss for Vancouver, as Ballard can step in or the young kid Tanev who is just as good or better then Rome.

This hurts Boston way more as Horton is gone for the season more then likely and that is a key Gog in the wheel they don't have now.

But as for whether it is a clean hit or not, by definition it is a late hit. You have 1 sec or so to finish the hit and this was close to 3. It was late and hence the reaction it is getting.

Typical Vancouver head hunting. Just hoping to catch someone in a vulnerable position. I hate this team. Hopefully some of their key players will get wasted.
