    Torres NOT Suspended!

Vancouver Canucks forward Raffi Torres will not face further discipline for a hit behind the net on Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook in Sunday night's Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal-round series.

NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell issued the following statement after reviewing the hit by Torres that resulted in a minor penalty for interference at 12:14 of the second period:

"When Rule 48 (Illegal Check to the Head) was unanimously adopted by the General Managers in March 2010, there was no intention to make this type of shoulder hit to the head illegal. In fact, at that time, we distributed a video to all players and teams that showed a similar hit on a defenseman by an attacking forward coming from the opposite direction behind the net and stated that this is a 'legal play'.

"This hit meets none of the criteria that would subject Torres to supplemental discipline, including an application of Rule 48: He did not charge his opponent or leave his feet to deliver this check. He did not deliver an elbow or extended forearm and this hit was not 'late'."

Torres was in his first game back after serving a four-game suspension for a hit on Edmonton forward Jordan Eberle in an April 5 regular-season contest.

    OWNED. Torres FTW

The hit seemed fine to me but seriously DG why is the guy in the lineup? Nothing against him but there's a time and a place. Cheers

good call. It wasn't a suspend-able hit from how I saw it.

It was a clean hit. Could Torres have laid up? YES of course but that's not the type of player he is. He's there to throw hits mostly and tilt people, but yeah he's not really essential to our lineup.

Was NOT a suspension. Its not his fault seabrook had his head down and not aware of his surroundings.

NHL gets it right for once

Torres plays the game on the edge which I don't see anything wrong with. But in these new day and age NHL, the refs see Torres playing over the edge sort of speak and drill him for everything. The hit was clean in my point of view, lined him up from behind the net and popped him one. Hodgson in my opinion to this Canuck team rather than Torres 2 minute minor each game.

Canucks bring out the brooms Game 4, my bad DG. Canucks are for real it looks like.

Yeah I really hope the Canucks roll with Hodgson over Torres in Game 4. Although the Hawks look down and out you don't wanna give them any extra motivation and having Torres in the game and getting some licks on him may re-energize the Hawks. Put in Hodgson, close them out in 4 and get rested for round 2.
