Value of a Half Point for Halves and Quarters?

Do these differ greatly from the value for the full game? I know it will depend what number it is crossing in some cases, but are there any "general rules of thumb?"

Specifically interested in the NBA for both sides and totals, but would be interested to hear any opinions on football as well. Thanks for any input or help.

It's a great question. I can tell you they vary hugely because lower scores mean smaller average margins. But would like to see the math that accurately prices NBA halves and quarters.

NFL halves you can find in Yao's book...........not sure about the NBA halves and quarters or NFL quarters.......I am guessing those that keep databases have this info and aren't likely to just toss it out here.

    Common sense.

In baseball, an average game is Nine runs total. So a half a run is big in totals. In basketball, 200 points get scored, so a half a point is not big in totals.

A point in a quarter is worth more than a point in a full game.

I don't have access to pinnacle, do you mind telling me what they charge to buy a half point on both the side and total for an NBA half?

Seven to ten cents--both sides and totals.

In general, the shorter the time period, the more valuable each half-point is.

Peep's got it down. Curious if anyone has created push charts for 2nd half lines?

I believe that first half scores in basketball is worth slightly less than double the worth of a point in a full game.

This is because scores will be half as high on halftime line, however, since the actual scoring events are also lower the avarage deviation from the mean in relation to the actual line will be higher.

According to pinnacle half a point on the spread for halftime is approximatly same value as half a point for fulltime, half a point on the total is almost twice as much worth. Wierd... I guess there are more effects to consider as to the spread than meets the eye.
