NFL Player News - Week of 8/13/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

SF - Good news for RB Jerick McKinnon

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon's (knee) MRI showed only a muscle strain in his knee, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can breathe a lot easier. McKinnon will probably sit for at least a week, if not the rest of the preseason. Joe Williams should be the lead back, but Jeremy McNichols, Raheem Mostert, and UDFA Jeffrey Wilson will also get more work.

NYJ - RB Isaiah Crowell has concussion

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell (concussion) suffered a concussion in the first preseason game and did not travel with the team for their joint practices with the Washington Redskins, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell doesn't have another recorded concussion in his career and has generally been very durable, however if he suffers another concussion during the season, this could turn it into a multi-week absence out of caution.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold moving up depth chart?

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold saw the 'vast majority' of reps in practice Sunday, Aug. 12, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darnold was strong in the preseason opener and did nothing to dispel the notion that he should be the Week 1 starter for the Jets. That might hurt Robby Anderson, who had a great deep ball connection with Josh McCown.

GB - RB Aaron Jones returns

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones was back at practice Sunday, Aug. 12. Jones had been sidelined since the first week of training camp with a hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is serving a two-game suspension to begin the season, so he needs to give the Packers coaches something to think about. Jamaal Williams will have a good chance to assert himself as the leader of the backfield, but he'll have to do it against the tough Chicago and Minnesota run defenses.

ARI - Lackluster debut for QB Josh Rosen

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen completed six of his 13 pass attempts for 41 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rosen played better than his numbers indicated, but the Cardinals offensive line and receivers let him down on multiple occasions. While there is reason for hope long-term, this was also a snapshot of the uphill battle Rosen might face when he does take over.

IND - Indy adds RB Branden Oliver, WR Matt Hazel

    Source: Colts.com

Free-agent RB Branden Oliver (Chargers) and WR Matt Hazel (Browns) signed with the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Aug. 12. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also placed WR Deon Cain (knee) on the Reserve/Injured list and waived WR Dres Anderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Oliver is a solid all-around back, but an achilles tear might have robbed him of his ceiling. Still, with the Colts backfield mostly banged up, it is worth tracking any competent back on the roster - even Christine Michael.

NE - RB Jeremy Hill top RB Sunday

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB Jeremy Hill served as the top running back during practice Sunday, Aug. 12, with RBs Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) and Sony Michel (knee) sidelined.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill is becoming a possible late-round sleeper now that he's running ahead of Mike Gillislee and two of the Patriots top three backs are hurt. Hill has also been contributing on special teams and appears to be in line for a roster spot.

BUF - Bills QBs banged up Sunday

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (leg) appeared to have suffered a lower right leg injury during practice Sunday, Aug. 12, but was able to return. QB Nathan Peterman (arm) suffered an apparent right arm injury during practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The path for Josh Allen to start Week 1 against the Ravens is opening, but that's probably a lot better for the Ravens fantasy defense than the Bills offense.

BUF - WR Corey Coleman on field with starters

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Corey Coleman received some snaps with the first-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman makes sense as the outside starter opposite Kelvin Benjamin, if only by default. He might be able to harness the deep arm of Josh Allen if the rookie ends up starting for the Bills.

PHI - Philly adds QB Christian Hackenberg

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Free-agent QB Christian Hackenberg (Raiders) signed an undisclosed deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Aug. 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Other than punchlines, this probably means nothing. Nick Foles is having back spasms and the team is taking it slow with Carson Wentz, so the team might want another camp body.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker still not standing out

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) jammed a finger on his right hand midway through practice Sunday, Aug. 12, although he remained on the field and was able to finish the session. However, Parker was 'not only covered, but blanketed' by CB Xavien Howard while being held without a catch despite seeing at least three targets during team drills prior to the injury Sunday, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard is certainly moving into the upper ranks of cornerbacks, but Parker's lack of effort is also standing out. He's rightfully dropping down draft boards and there are probably better fliers to take at wide receiver in the range of the draft he's going in, even at a discount.

PHI - TE Dallas Goedert likely back soon

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert (elbow) told reporters Sunday, Aug. 12, he is recovering from a 'bump and a bruise' and expects to be back in a day or two.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goedert's injury is probably nothing to worry about going forward, but we're monitoring Nelson Agholor, who hasn't been at practice in a week. Goedert looks like he'll be an instant red zone specialist and potentially have fantasy value as a rookie.

TB - RB Charles Sims not a lock to stick on roster

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is not guaranteed to make the final roster, especially if undrafted rookie free agent Shaun Wilson continues to impress, according to The Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman, who believes Wilson could make the team at the expense of Sims or Jacquizz Rodgers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is more dynamic in space and has been turning heads since he joined the team. Sims stayed on the free agent market for a while and probably isn't a very coveted player at this point. Getting beaten out by a UDFA is clearly possible.

MIA - WR Kenny Stills sidelined Sunday

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills (ankle) was held out of practice Sunday, Aug. 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adam Gase said the team will be smart and hold him back to avoid setbacks that would make the injury linger into the season. File this away in case Stills has problems later this year with his left ankle.

PHI - RB Corey Clement held out of action Sunday

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement (leg) was spotted with his right leg in a sleeve Sunday, Aug. 12, and was held out of practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

if Clement has injury issues, it could increase Jay Ajayi's upside. We'll be keeping tabs on this, but there are no outward signs that it is serious.

CHI - RB Knile Davis signed

    Source: The Athletic

The Chicago Bears signed free-agent RB Knile Davis (Steelers) Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis is probably just a camp body to take snaps while Benny Cunningham is banged up. UDFA RB/FB Ryan Nall (Oregon State) is having a good camp and will be tough to displace if the Bears decide to keep an extra back.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch struggles Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch completed six of his 11 passes for 24 yards and an interception against the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch probably isn't good enough to be the backup for the Broncos, or most teams, and Denver will need to ask themselves hard questions about whether they are ready to move on from a first-round pick in his third year. Chad Kelly is pushing to backup Case Keenum this year.

ARI - RB David Johnson shows some burst

    Source: ESPN.com

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson had two carries for 28 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Put him in bubble wrap. Johnson looks ready to pick up where he left off when he ruled the fantasy world in 2016. The only question is how much this version of the Cardinals offense will lose in overall production compared to that version.

OAK - Jon Gruden talks up RB Chris Warren

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders RB Chris Warren is developing into a complete running back, according to head coach Jon Gruden. 'He's a hammer, he can really thump you and he's got breakaway speed,' Gruden said. 'He's becoming a receiver, blitz pickup, all those little details are improving but he's got a lot of talent.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Warren might have more to offer than Doug Martin at this point, but the Raiders coaches might not see it that way. He showed enough to get the attention of other teams, so if this continues, the Raiders will have to keep him on the 53 to retain him for the future. He's on the deep dynasty stash radar.

DAL - WR Michael Gallup has bright future

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup is a 'moldable, future really good receiver,' according to wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gallup should play a large role in the Cowboys passing game, but it might be difficult for him to have consistent value in a run-first offense with a muddled picture at wide receiver. He's definitely on the late round flier radar and gaining momentum.

I remember when Kniles Davis was supposed to be the next Jamaal Charles. Can’t believe he’s still bouncing around the league.

    Tuesday Update

PIT - WR Antonio Brown OK after practice scare

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (leg) limped off the practice field Monday, Aug. 13, according to writer Ed Bouchette but did not aggravate his quadriceps issue and is fine, according to coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hear that noise? That's a collective sigh from millions of Fantasy GMs upon hearing this news. A scare to be sure, but this sounds like it's not a big deal. We'll keep an eye on this one for you though. Antonio Brown later accused the Steelers writer, Ed Bouchette of making (stuff) up. Stay tuned.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley has strain

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) suffered a mild hamstring strain during practice Monday, Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring strains can be problematic if not given enough time to heal. Barkley was great in his preseason debut but this injury may slow him down a bit in the near future.

TB - Peyton Barber considered starter

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber is currently considered the team's starting running back, according to head coach Dirk Koetter. Koetter said the team also plans to use RB Ronald Jones this season but thought Jones' performance in the first preseason game was average.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barber is a good all-purpose back who could outperform his current ADP of RB53 (13.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. Jones is an exciting rookie with gamebreaking speed but he still has plenty to learn (pass protection, etc) in order to get a larger role.

NYG - Coach expects RB Saquon Barkley to be fine

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (leg) appeared to be dealing with a left leg injury during practice Monday, Aug. 13, but head coach Pat Shurmur said he thinks Barkley will be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This seems like a minor issue. We'll be able to get more information once practice continues this week.

BUF - QB Josh Allen moves up depth chart for a day

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen worked with the second-team offense during practice Monday, Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's just a matter of time. Allen had been working exclusively with the third-team offense since the start of training camp. They hope he's their franchise quarterback and Allen will get more opportunities as the year goes on. He may not begin the season as the starter but we expect the rookie from Wyoming to take over at some point in 2018.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers should play this week

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is expected to play in Week 2 of the preseason, although he is less likely to play in the last two preseason games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Interesting to note they would play him in the second game more than the 'dress rehearsal' for the regular season aka week three of the preseason. Either way, the Packers are back in a Super Bowl window so long as Rodgers is their quarterback. Fantasy GMs are taking Rodgers at QB1 (3.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny leaves early

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (undisclosed) left practice early Monday, Aug. 13, but offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said he thinks Penny will be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Penny, the Seahawks first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, is competing with Chris Carson to be the lead back in 2018. The rookie from San Diego State runs with more nuance than you would think for a 225 pound back. He needs to prove himself in pass protection if he wants a large role with the team this season. Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at RB27 (6.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - WR Kenny Stills remains sidelined

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Alain Poupart

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills has missed plenty of time in training camp due to this ankle injury. The team has always said they're going to take it easy on the veteran receiver so this problem doesn't linger into the regular season. He's got WR3/flex upside for Fantasy GMs in 2018 and Stills has a current ADP of WR52 (11.08).

BUF - QB AJ McCarron, QB Nathan Peterman on the field

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (leg) and Nathan Peterman (arm) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 13, after both suffered minor injuries during practice Sunday, Aug. 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They're trying to establish a depth chart order during the rest of training camp. McCarron worked with the first-team offense, while Peterman worked with the third-team offense.

NE - RB Sony Michel still out

    Source: MassLive.com - Andrew Callahan

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) is out of practice Monday, Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michel left the field with a trainer way back on Tuesday, August 1st. His status for the start of the regular season is unknown. We don't expect to see the rookie from Georgia in the preseason.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold has finger wrapped

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold (finger) had his left ring finger wrapped Monday, Aug. 13, after his hand was stepped on in the first preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darnold was able to play with this minor finger injury in his preseason debut. This is a minor issue and shouldn't keep him out of action.

    Wednesday Update

PHI - QB Carson Wentz trending to out for Week 1?

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Dave Zangaro

Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) said 'it will be close' as to whether he'll be ready for Week 1. 'I obviously would love to be out there,' Wentz said. 'That's been my goal all offseason ever since the injury. It's going to be close. I'm still eyeing that date. At the end of the day, it's not just my decision. There's coaches and doctors that really have the final say. I really like where I'm at and time will tell here.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If it's truly close, Wentz will sit Week 1. The Eagles have one of the best (and highest paid) backups in the league in Nick Foles, and Wentz's long-term outlook is much more important than getting him back on the field as soon as possible. Wentz's fantasy viability early in the season is up in the air, and he should probably be outside of the top 3-4 quarterbacks drafted.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger may be concussed

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (head) landed on his head during practice Tuesday, Aug. 14, and is believed to be receiving a concussion evaluation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see the Steelers bring Roethlisberger back from this injury slowly. Fantasy GMs should not be worried about the veteran quarterback missing the regular season opener.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery Not A Lock To Be Ready Week 1

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported: "As #Eagles gear up for the season, WR Alshon Jeffery has remained on PUP. Though he's progressing according to plan, sources say the timing of his rotator cuff surgery -- following the Super Bowl win - means there's a chance he may not be ready for the opener. Could stay on PUP."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Jeffery were to open the season on PUP, he'd miss the first six weeks. Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice reported today coach Doug Pederson was asked about the report: "You know what, I'm not going to comment on that because we're monitoring his progress, it's day-to-day, we're happy where he's at, and we'll continue to do that," he said. "But I'm not sure where that came from." Stay on this one but it looks like Jeffery is not a lock to be ready for the early part of the season.

OAK - QB Derek Carr impressing

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has been vocal, directive and fluent in head coach Jon Gruden's offense so far. The command of the offense Carr has shown is evident.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news out of Raiders camp here. Carr's fit with Gruden is something to monitor closely as training camp and the preseason rolls on. He's got the ability to outperform his current ADP of QB19 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin remains out indefinitely

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) keeps coming to practice and stretching with his teammates before going inside at the start of practice to presumably get treatment. He remains out indefinitely with his left knee ailment.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin's knee issue is a mystery. He might getting anti-inflammatory injections or another treatment, and he might have a cartilage condition. To feel good about playing Baldwin Week 1 against the tough Broncos pass defense, we'll want to see him workout and get back to full practices in September.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott to be used in space

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

The Dallas Cowboys want to mix up their usage of RB Ezekiel Elliott in an attempt to spread out defenses. He has been lined up in the slot so he can match up against a linebacker or safety. 'It's going to be big for us in the offense,' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Monday, Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Elliott should have reception totals rivaling LeVeon Bell, Todd Gurley, and David Johnson, but the Cowboys have curiously thrown to him very little for a player of his skill and ability. This year, they have no excuse with the passing game being overhauled after Jason Witten retired and Dez Bryant was released.

ARI - RB David Johnson likely to play more

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson was limited to just two snaps in the preseason opener, posting a pair of 14-yard runs. He said earlier in the preseason that he didn't think he needed to play much if at all in the preseason to get ready. His head coach, Steve Wilks, disagrees. 'David didn't play last year,' Wilks said Monday, Aug. 13. 'And you talk about the timing. I think it's important he plays quite a bit. When I say quite a bit, I'm talking my standards.' Wilks clarified and added that his standards do not necessarily mean playing into the second or third quarter, but it would be seeing more than just two offensive snaps.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting to see more of Johnson in the preseason will be entertaining, but it would be tragic if he suffered another injury during time that he wouldn't be out there if the coach wasn't pushing for more preseason reps. It does sound like Wilks is aware of this. Johnson looked as good as ever and certainly worth a top five pick in drafts.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert will be limited

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) will be on a snap count this season. Head coach Marvin Lewis went as far as to say that he hopes Eifert doesn't reach 50 snaps in a game this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's the plan with a player who has an injury history like Eifert. Talent has never been the question with Eifert, and as long as he's healthy he can be a weapon for the Bengals offense. Fantasy GMs are taking him at TE14 (12.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NE - WR Phillip Dorsett leaves practice

    Source: MassLive.com - Nick O'Malley

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett (undisclosed) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 14, after slipping.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He walked off the field under his own power and the issue did not appear to be serious. Dorsett has a chance to carve out a larger role than some think in the Patriots offense. Fantasy GMs are not selecting Dorsett in most 12-team PPR leagues, so keep him on your waiver wire speed dial. If he plays well in the preseason then perhaps taking a flier on him in the late rounds is something you should consider.

KC - Patrick Mahomes, offense will play half

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and the first-team offense will play the whole first half in Week 2 of the preseason, according to head coach Andy Reid.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes only played in one game last year for the Chiefs so any added experience is a good thing. The Chiefs are looking forward to him leading the offense this year and Fantasy GMs are excited too. Mahomes is a QB2 with upside being selected at QB16 (11.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

GB - WR Geronimo Allison taking hold of No. 3 WR job

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood

Green Bay Packers WR Geronimo Allison has 'quietly established himself as the team's No. 3 receiver,' according to Ryan Wood of The Green Bay Press-Gazette.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With a healthy Aaron Rodgers, the Packers passing attack should be more dangerous in 2018. That makes Allison a player Fantasy GMs need to monitor and potentially add to their roster late in the draft. Allison has strong hands and has impressed all offseason as the no3 wideout in Green Bay. He's got a current ADP of WR54 (12.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NO - WR Cameron Meredith dealing with unknown ailment

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints WR Cameron Meredith (undisclosed) has missed the last several days of practice with an undisclosed injury, although there doesn't seem to be any concern the injury is related to his surgically repaired knee, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meredith posted about obstacles and tests on his twitter account, so this could be more than minor, but it is difficult to know. This certainly makes us less enthusiastic to draft Meredith at ADP and could open a path for rookie Tre'Quan Smith to contribute early.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker week to week

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) is week to week with a broken middle finger, according to a source. He's expected back for the season opener.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker was already having an underwhelming camp. He's only a late round flier at this point, with Kenny Stills on the rise, assuming his ankle is ok. Albert Wilson could end up having value during the season if Parker struggles.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley working on the side

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is working with a resistance band on the sidelines at practice Tuesday, Aug. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barkley's hamstring injury sounds minor, but the team will likely err on the cautious side in handling him, which might mean we won't see him again in the preseason.

NE - WR Eric Decker's hands in question

Source: The Providence Journal - Mark Daniels

New England Patriots WR Eric Decker dropped the first pass QB Tom Brady threw him last week, dropped two more Sunday, Aug. 12, and three more Monday, Aug. 13. After his drops, Decker appeared to run the wrong route when Brady first targeted him in 11-on-11s. He ended practice with four catches in a row, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There was some hope that Decker could fill the big slot role when he was signed, but it sounds like he's not even a sure thing to make the team right now.

Bengals need to use Eifert more as a receiver than blocker, that would help his back problems he's been dealing with a long time.

    Thursday Update

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger believed to be fine

Source: The Athletic - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (concussion) is believed to be fine and traveled with the team for their preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers will be cautious with Roethlisberger as he deals with this concussion. He should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny has surgery

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (finger) underwent successful surgery on his injured finger Wednesday, Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The timetable for Penny's return is 3-4 weeks. The rookie was competing with Chris Carson to be the lead back in Seattle this season. The Seahawks hope he'll be ready for Week 1.

CLE - QB Tyrod Taylor locked in as starter

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor will be the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Hue Jackson. 'I have not changed. I'm not going to change,' Jackson said. 'Tyrod Taylor's the starting quarterback here, and Baker (Mayfield is) the future of our organization.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns appear to have a plan to let Mayfield incubate on the bench for all or at least the better part of his rookie season to give him more time to grow before taking on regular season NFL defenses. The career arc of players like Philip Rivers, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Aaron Rodgers seems to point to the wisdom of waiting, and the Browns paid a lot in draft capital for Taylor, who seems plenty capable of leading a team like the Browns to wins after he took the Bills to the playoffs. We'll see if the Browns stick with their plan.

NO - WR Cameron Meredith back at practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Cameron Meredith (undisclosed) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 15, but did not participate in team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meredith missed all of the 2017 season due to a knee injury. Reports indicate there doesn't seem to be any concern this undisclosed injury is related to his surgically repaired knee. If healthy, Meredith could be a value pick for Fantasy GMs are his current ADP of WR49 (10.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SF - RB Jeremy McNichols running with ones

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

San Francisco 49ers RB Jeremy McNichols is running with the first-team Wednesday, Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNichols is a good receiving back and he had solid all-around workouts, but couldn't stick with the Bucs after being drafted in the fifth round last year. Injuries to Matt Breida and Jerick McKinnon have freed up first-team snaps and should make the battle to be the #3 back more exciting to watch with potential fantasy value waiting in the wings.

BAL - WR John Brown 'better than advertised'

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Baltimore Ravens WR John Brown has been 'a complete receiver for us,' according to head coach John Harbaugh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown will rival Michael Crabtree for weekly ranking and value as long as he is healthy, and if Crabtree draws Tre'Davious White Week 1, Brown will be more valuable in the matchup against the Bills. Reserve a late-round pick for Brown, but be ready to move on if he gets dinged and can't get back on the field, a common scene from recent years.

DAL - WR Cole Beasley to miss preseason game

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley (groin) has been ruled out for the second preseason game but hopes to be able to play in the third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys are rather thin at the WR position. Beasley should work as their slot receiver when healthy behind Allen Hurns and rookie Michael Gallup. Fantasy GMs aren't drafting Beasley and he's only got 'what the heck' flex value when on the field. Keep him on your waiver wire watch list but only in deeper leagues.

CLE - QB Drew Stanton to play Friday

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Drew Stanton will receive playing time in the second preseason game Friday, Aug. 15, because he has not played a game for anyone on the offensive staff. Stanton did not play in the first preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stanton should be the odd man out in the Cleveland QB room. Tyrod Taylor will start the season and Baker Mayfield should take over at some point. Stanton could be dealt for a team in need of a veteran backup quarterback (Denver?).

CLE - Coach unsure who will be No. 2 QB

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QBs Baker Mayfield and Drew Stanton have been working behind QB Tyrod Taylor during training camp, but head coach Hue Jackson said he is not sure if the team would play Mayfield or Stanton if Taylor suffered an injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mayfield has shown flashes and he's clearly the quarterback of the future for the Browns. They could go with him as the no.2 behind Taylor and then try and deal Stanton if a team needs a veteran backup.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon leaves practice early

Source: Cox Media Group - Jay Morrison

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed) left practice early Wednesday, Aug. 15, walking off under his own power and without a trainer. He did not return from the locker room.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs are excited about Mixon in 2018. He's currently going off the board at RB14 (2.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. Keep an eye on this injury situation. We'll have more news about Mixon's injury when it becomes available..stay tuned.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise on track for Saturday

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (hip) is on track to play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prosise is one of the most oft-injured backs in the NFL. If healthy, Prosise could be a weapon for the team as a pass-catching back. The talent is there for Prosise to be Chris Thompson-like but injuries and lack of opportunity cloud his fantasy value.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett has practice scare

Source: The Seattle Times - Mike Vorel

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (undisclosed) went down in practice Wednesday, Aug. 15, but appeared to be OK afterwards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lockett has already had enough of an injury history in the NFL for Fantasy GMs to proceed with cautious optimism when drafting him. With Paul Richardson (Washington) moving on in free agency, the no2 WR spot opposite Doug Baldwin is likely to be Lockett. We could see Lockett outperform his current ADP of WR56 (12.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - WR Allen Robinson will play some

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee) will play sparingly in Week 2 of the preseason, according to head coach Matt Nagy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson was a big signing for the Bears in free agency this offseason. If he bounces back to what he was a couple of years ago (no4 overall fantasy WR in 2015) for the Jaguars, then Fantasy GMs are going to be quite happy (and Bears fans too). His play fell off in 2016 after his breakout 2015 season, and Robinson missed all but one game last year due to this knee injury. Robinson did not play in the first preseason game.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews remains idle

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) remained on the sidelines at practice Wednesday, Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The lack of information about this situation is not comforting. It's not like Matthews will get healthier in season, and if it takes this much rest just for him to be able to practice, getting back to his previous level of play and conditioning and staying there will be difficult. Matthews is still worth a late pick on his track record, but he might be a quick release if he can't contribute in Week 1. Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor have higher ceilings with this in mind, and Tajae Sharpe should have a shot at redemption this year.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker won't be traded

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) won't be traded, according to a league source. The Dolphins are happy Parker has advanced in his knowledge of the offense to where he knows both outside receiver spots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's unclear what they could get for him after his numerous disappointments and failure to fulfill his first-round potential to date. Parker has plummeted down draft boards and it's fair to ask if he'll have more value than Albert Wilson this year if the trend continues.

    Friday Update

PHI - QB Nick Foles exits with shoulder injury

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (shoulder) had to exit the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 16, against the New England Patriots due to a shoulder strain, according to the club.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is calling it a strain. Stay tuned to see how they proceed. Foles obviously has a huge role depending on how quickly Carson Wentz is ready.

WAS - RB Samaje Perine suffers injury

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (ankle) left the preseason game early Thursday, Aug. 16, and is being evaluated for an ankle sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stay tuned to this one. Rough news for a backfield reeling from the lost of Derrius Guice. Things get thin if Perine were to be limited. And the door opens for Rob Kelly.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead has minor injury

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) is dealing with a minor injury but could have played in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 16, if it was a regular season game, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is about as much as you can expect from New England on an injury like this. Doesn't look like a big deal.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger good to go

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is out of the concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't expect to see a ton of him before Week 1, but it seems as if he is out of the woods. He reportedly did not suffer a concussion. Roethlisberger isn't a top fantasy quarterback, but he flirts with top ten numbers many weeks out of the year. He's an outstanding part of a QBBC and a serviceable option as your QB1 if you have a solid backup as well.

SEA - RB Chris Carson the bellcow

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson is the team's bellcow at running back, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This makes sense as not only is rookie Reshard Penny hurt, but as reported in this week's Footballguys Training Camp Report, his pass protection is shaky. Before his injury, Carson showed last season he could do it all, so the team should have no issue putting him in for a chunk of carries. His ADP stands at 43rd back off the board, with an overall spot of 118, which makes him a nice buy-low option right now. We expect that a healthy Penny will come in for his share of carries, but Carson isn't going anywhere and has plenty of value.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker exits

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (undisclosed) left practice Thursday, Aug. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After you get through the obvious guys -- Travis Kelce, Rob Gronwkowski, and the like -- Walker is often a sneaky-effective tight end option. So this injury is a concern and one we will watch closely. Reports have updated that this is a toe injury, so it's hard to know how serious it is. We'll keep you up to date but we are cautiously optimistic he will be back before the season starts.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley idle Thursday

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is out of practice again Thursday, Aug. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing to see here, move along. As much as the Giants desperately need his help in the regular season, they won't risk him a ton in preseason. He's going as a top ten fantasy running back, and while that's always a little scary with rookies, we think his talent warrants it, hamstring issues or not.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny may miss regular season action

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (finger) possibly might miss 'a game or two' to open up the regular season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The timetable for his recovery is around 3-4 weeks from now. That means his status for Week 1 against the Broncos is very much in question. Even though Pete Carroll is optimistic about the situation, Fantasy GMs should plan on the rookie first-round pick missing some time. Chris Carson could begin the season as the starter for Seattle.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams Ankle Injury

    Source: PackersWire - Zach Kruse

Packers running back Jamaal Williams suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll be looking for information here Friday morning on Williams. We've been projecting Williams to lead the backfield in Green Bay.

NE - WR Kenny Britt remains injured

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) is still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered on June 5. He hasn't taken any reps in one-on-one or team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt hasn't lived up to his original billing and we aren't expecting that to change. Britt probably isn't worth rostering at this point unless someone gets hurt.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook's status uncertain

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook's (knee) status for the second preseason game has not been announced yet, but head coach Mike Zimmer said he has decided if Cook will play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are anxious to see Cook play but there's no rush. We know he's a high-end RB2 with upside when healthy and reports are he is exactly that. His ADP is right at 10, and he should be a safe bet to at least meet that.

DAL - RB Tavon Austin unsure about playing status

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Tavon Austin (hamstring) said he is feeling good but is not sure if the coaches will allow him to play in the second preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure what role he will play whenever he gets on the field, as he is listed at both running back and receiver depending on who you ask. They say he's not a gadget player. We'll see.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant, CLE may not get deal done now

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant's (Cowboys) visit with the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 16, may be more about the two sides getting to know each other better than it is to reach a contract agreement, according to a source. Bryant is believed to be looking for a one-year deal, which would allow him to show he is still a Pro Bowl-caliber player.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

What role Bryant has is a big question here and it hinges upon what happens with Antonio Calloway and any potential suspension and when Josh Gordon returns. Bryant looks like a shadow of himself, but he might provide a little bit of production as a very late-round flier in deeper leagues.

LAC - QB Philip Rivers to play in preseason game

Source: Los Angeles Daily News - Jack Wang

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers will play in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16. Rivers did not play in the first preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rivers is a criminally underrated quarterback and by the looks of his ADP - 16th quarterback off the board -- he will be in fantasy as well. We think he is a nice value at that price point, and with Keenan Allen healthy plus Tyrell and Mike Williams available, he has plenty of weapons even without Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon back on field

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed) participated in practice Thursday, Aug. 16, despite leaving practice early Wednesday, Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We feel Mixon can be a workhorse, so it's good to see him back on the field. While his rookie season suffered from bad offensive line play and inconsistent use, he still amassed over 600 yards. With Jeremy Hill gone, we think he will see more work and with a better offensive line he should see his 3.5 yards per carry rise as well. His ADP of 15th RB taken seems dead on and his upside could make it a bit of a value by season's end.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin sprinting

Source: The Athletic - Michael-Shawn Dugar

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) was seen doing sprints off to the side during practice Thursday, Aug. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks aren't rushing Baldwin back since they are using the time to look at the rest of their receivers. They know what he is, and so do Fantasy GMs, by the look of his ADP as 11th overall WR. He'll be fine and he will be a big target again this year.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett not practicing

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) was held out of practice Thursday, Aug. 16, after being kicked in the leg Wednesday, Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Lockett didn't have bad luck on the injury front, he wouldn't have any. He'll have a shot to hold onto the No. 2 spot in the wide receiving corps, but needs to be on the field for it to work. He has shown potential before but never consistently. Even if he sees an active role, we aren't expecting him to do more than his ADP of 62nd receiver off the board.

    Saturday Update

PHI - QB Nick Foles will be fine

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (shoulder) is not expected to miss much time after tests on his injured shoulder showed a minor injury, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is good news for the Eagles, who hopefully won't have to feel pressured to play Carson Wentz if they feel he would benefit from sitting Week 1 now.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead has slight tear in knee

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (knee) is reportedly dealing with a slight tear in his knee, but it has been deemed a minor injury and something he will be able to play through, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Any sprain is technically a tear, so it isn't as bad as it sounds if this is a low grade MCL tear. If it's cartilage then it could be a situation that has to be managed all year. Either way, with his performance last night and the state of the backfield, James White's value is going up.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant talks end without a deal

Source: The Associated Press - Tom Withers

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) and the Cleveland Browns were unable to reach a contract agreement after two days of face-to-face negotiations concluded Friday, Aug. 17. However, 'conversations continue' between the two sides, according to a source speaking on the condition of anonymity.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant could still sign, but if the Browns were seriously concerned about Josh Gordon, they would have moved quicker and probably not let Bryant leave without a contract. At this point, it is possible that Bryant starts the season a free agent.

SF - RB Jerick McKinnon out until Week 1

Source: KNBR 680 - Brian Murphy

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon (calf) will be out the rest of the preseason, according to general manager John Lynch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers could easily employ a three-headed committee in Week 1 against the tough Vikings defense with McKinnon and Matt Breida both likely coming off of layoffs. It might be a situation to avoid in Week 1 lineups. Calf strains can be tricky and subject to re-injury, so we'll be watching practice reports and McKinnon's return closely.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams injury update

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) told reporters he could not definitively say whether he could have returned to the game after suffering an ankle injury versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Aug. 16. However, he was not concerned about the injury being a long-term issue, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Williams is ready for the third preseason game, but all reports are that he is fine and this is not a significant injury. The Packers could hold him out to make sure he's as healthy as possible for the opener against the Bears. The possibility of more work for Ty Montgomery to open the season just went up.

OAK - QB Derek Carr a quick study

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has already 'mastered' the offense, according to head coach Jon Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The bigger question is whether Amari Cooper will play like a #1 and Jordy Nelson will look better than he did last year with Brett Hundley. Carr is on the fringe of draftable quarterbacks because of the depth of the position.

SF - WR Trent Taylor carving out role

Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers WR Trent Taylor is emerging as a 'popular target' for QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor is a solid slot option, although Marquise Goodwin is the #1, Pierre Garcon will play a big role, and rookies Richie James and Dante Pettis are making the case to get on the field early in their careers. Taylor will help Garoppolo's value, but not create standalone value of his own.

    ======================================== ======================================== =======

News for the Bills you'll want to know.

Per Bills writer Vic Carucci: "#Bills QB AJ McCarron suffered a hairline fracture of the collarbone in the first quarter of tonight's preseason game vs. #Browns, The Buffalo News has learned."

This clearly opens the opportunity for rookie Josh Allen. Allen showed potential tonight on a beautiful touchdown where he moved avoided pressure in the pocket. We'll know more on McCarron tomorrow likely but for now it looks like it's going to be Allen sooner than later. We have a hard time getting excited about Nathan Peterman.

    ======================================== ======================================== =======

Great news for Cleveland and Josh Gordon. Clevelandbrowns.com just reported:

"Josh Gordon is back with the Browns.

"The Browns wide receiver has returned to the team following a leave of absence, which focused on his “overall mental and physical health,” the club announced Saturday.

“As I humbly return to being a member of this team with an opportunity to get back to playing this game I love, I realize in order for me to reach my full potential my primary focus must remain on my sobriety and mental well-being,” Gordon wrote in a statement.

"Gordon, who continues to recover from a public struggle with addiction, announced July 23 he wouldn’t be in Cleveland for the start of training camp citing a desire to stay on a positive path."

This is obviously great news and exactly what we'd been hoping for. By all accounts, he's been working hard in Florida and is in great shape. I've seen this kind of proactive move on Gordon's part to get the help he needed as a positive not a setback at all.

As anyone who's been around addiction at all knows, the story is always ongoing. There is risk with Gordon. But I like how he's been handling things thus far.

    Sunday Update

PHI - QB Carson Wentz to take part in team drills

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) will participate in team drills during practice Sunday, Aug. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nick Foles is going to miss the rest of the preseason with a shoulder injury, but the Eagles have been planning on Wentz taking this step around this time for awhile now. Wentz has been progressing well. While other reports have said it will be "close" if Wentz is able to start the season. This is encouraging news.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon moving to NFI list

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will be moved from the Reserve/Did Not Report list to the Active/Non-Football Illness list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is back for the Browns and should be in line to play in the regular season opener. He's missed camp to this point due to health concerns and the Browns have supported him fully. Fantasy GMs are taking a chance on the talented receiver, currently taking him off the board at WR24 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon not allowed to practice yet

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is still in the substance abuse program and will not be allowed to participate in practice until certain conditions are met, according to NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Throughout this entire process we've seen the Browns fully support Gordon. It sounds like they'll take it easy on him as they ramp up to the regular season opener. Stay tuned.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant unlikely to join Browns now

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is no longer on the front burner for the Cleveland Browns, and the two sides are not expected to reach an agreement anytime soon, according to a source. It should be noted coach Hue Jackson said Bryant was still an option.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reporters speculate one thing and the head coach says another. Head coach Hue Jackson has said the team is still open to signing Bryant even though WR Josh Gordon returning. Who knows what happens, but the urgency to get Bryant had to take a hit with Gordon's return.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton nursing shoulder sprain

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (shoulder) suffered a sprained shoulder in practice Saturday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton has been looking like his old self with QB Andrew Luck back and healthy. Fantasy GMs need to monitor this injury situation with Hilton to see how soon he can get back in action.

CHI - TE Adam Shaheen carted off with ankle injury

    Source: Kevin Patra - NFL.com

Bears tight end Adam Shaheen suffered an ankle injury in Saturday's game. He was carted from the sideline to the locker room.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It looked like Shaheen's foot got caught in the turf and his ankle twisted awkwardly. Watch for news on this Sunday.

WAS - RB Orleans Darkwa to try out for Redskins

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa (Giants) will work out for the Washington Redskins Sunday, Aug. 19, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darkwa was cleared for football activities back in late June and there have been a few teams looking into his services. After losing rookie Derrius Guice (knee) for the year, Washington is looking for help in the backfield. Darkwa had 751 rushing yards last year.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray struggles

    Source: NFL.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray rushed for 12 yards on six carries during the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday, Aug. 18. He also fumbled the ball twice during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The fumbles aren't a good look for Murray. The veteran is in line to be the primary backup behind Dalvin Cook in 2018.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed misses practice

Source: The Washington Post - Kimberley A. Martin

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (illness) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 18, because of an illness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not to sound too cheeky, but Reed is used to missing time. Fantasy GMs who take a chance on Reed already know they need to have a good backup or other starting option at the position. Reed has a current ADP of TE9 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger on the field Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (head) is a full participant during practice Saturday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger is trending to be ready for the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka week three of the preseason. He was cleared from the concussion protocol only a couple of days ago.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa practicing

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (thumb) is participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 18, and is taking part in team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa missed all of last year due to a neck injury. This thumb injury was suffered earlier this month and it required a couple of weeks to get right. Enunwa should go back to manning the slot WR position for the Jets.

NYJ - RB Isaiah Crowell returns to practice

Source: The Record - Andy Vasquez

New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell (concussion) returned to the practice field Saturday, Aug. 18, and was able to participate in individuals drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell is coming back from this concussion and should be cleared for team activities provided there are no setbacks. He should begin the season as the starting running back for the Jets. Bilal Powell remains as a big part of the backfield in 2018 too.

MIA - WR Kenny Stills should return next week

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills (ankle, calf) has been battling an ankle and a calf injury, head coach Adam Gase said on Friday, Aug. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He is expected to return for the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25. With DeVante Parker continuing to struggle with consistency, we could see Stills as the top wide receiver for the Dolphins in 2018. He's a WR3 for Fantasy GMs with some upside currently going off the board at WR51 (11.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll see if Stills can outperform that spot and show a strong chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill.
